The Position 

Under general supervision, protects life and property; performs law enforcement and crime prevention duties; controls traffic flow and regulations; enforces State, Federal and Local laws and performs related duties as required.  An incumbent in the position is a role model of impeccable character, trustworthy, and the will to help serve the community.   Looking for Police Officer I and Police Officer II to join our team.   

Prerequisites

Police Office I:  

Education and Experience:   Any combination equivalent to graduation from high school and completion of P.O.S.T. Basic Academy or Module D Training for Police Officers. 

Licenses, Registrations, Accreditations, etc:   Possession of a valid Class C California Motor Vehicle Operator License; certificate of completion of the P.O.S.T. Basic Academy; standard CPR and First Aid Certificates issued by the American Red Cross.

Police Officer II:

Education and Experience:  Any combination equivalent to graduation from high school and completion of P.O.S.T. Basic Academy or Module D Training for police officers.   At least 2-years' experience as a sworn public safety officer.  

License, Registration, Accreditations, etc: Possession of a valid Class C California Motor Vehicle Operator License; certificate of completion of the P.O.S.T. Basic Academy Certificate; standard CPR and First Aid Certificates issued by the American Red Cross.

The Chief Building Official serves as the principal administrative officer of the Building Division. The position directs, assigns, supervises, and plans the activities of the Building Division. The selected candidate will coordinate and direct the resolution of complex development issues and disputes and will serve as the principal enforcement officer of the building and housing codes of the City. In addition, the Chief Building Official will oversee boards and commissions and serve as a member of the City’s Executive Management Team.

The Chief Building Official performs work that is highly complex and often requires intense and exacting mental attention and the ability to reason through and solve complex problems that may affect the ability of the Building and Development Unit to achieve its critical goals and objectives. The incumbent will have extensive contact with public officials, employees, and the general public.

Under the general direction of the Town Manager, plans, schedules, and directs the work of the Public Works Department, which includes providing supervision of street improvements, permits, traffic control, pavement markings, parks and public landscaping, storm drains, street sweeping, building maintenance, and general engineering functions; performs related work as required.

EXAMPLES  OF DUTIES

Prepares and presents public works related items and issues to the Town Council. Plans and supervises the capital improvement program, street maintenance program, storm drain and disaster related repairs and all aspects and equipment related thereto; periodically inspects streets and all public facilities for deficiencies and recommends corrective actions and priority of work; estimates labor, materials, and oversees initiation of projects including street openings, retaining walls, flood control and drainage facilities; manages the Town’s participation in the Marin County storm water pollution prevention program; manages the Town’s GIS program; prepares plans and specifications for bidding procedures; interacts with the Consulting Town Engineer and/or supervises engineering functions; provides complex and responsible administrative support to the Town Manager; prepares departmental budget and controls expenditures; personnel administration within the department; participates in code enforcement and in other activities, as required.

This is a single-class, non-safety position that performs a range of activities associated with wildfire-related emergency preparedness and prevention, including: overseeing vegetation management projects, supporting the development and maintenance of detection, alert, and evacuation systems, leading public outreach, and education campaigns, and promoting defensible space practices and home hardening strategies. The Police Officer Trainee learns to enforce Federal, State, and local laws and to respond to calls for the protection of life and property by attending a basic Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) certified training academy to obtain the basic skills and fitness level necessary for the performance of Police Officer duties. The City of San Rafael, Child Care Division is accepting applications for Child Care Aide to work in our School-Age Program.  We are looking for people who are available Monday thru Friday from 2:00 – 6:00 pm.  This is a great part-time position for someone who attends school in the morning.  No weekend work required!

• Assist Director and Instructors in planning and implementing activities.
• Assist in the supervision of children at the child care center or on outings/trips.
