The City of Sunnyvale’s Department of Public Safety is seeking a dedicated Media and Engagement Manager to support the Office of the Chief in meeting the growing demand for transparent, timely, and strategic public safety communications. This management-level position will serve as the department’s primary communications lead for non-critical incidents, overseeing media relations, crisis and emergency communications, social media and website content, internal communications including a regular staff newsletter, and community engagement initiatives.

Laboratory/Field Technician - Field

The City of Sunnyvale is currently recruiting for a Field Technician to join the Environmental Services Department team! The Environmental Services Department provides comprehensive and innovative utility services for Sunnyvale's residents, businesses and facilitates initiatives to achieve the City's sustainability objectives. The Department brings together technical, operational, and administrative professional disciplines to form its dedicated and dynamic team.

City of Sunnyvale Field Technicians work in the field when assigned to the Compliance Inspection group in the Regulatory Programs Division. Field Technicians work under the supervision of the Senior Environmental Compliance Inspector primarily in the field collecting samples from industries, restaurants and the sanitary sewer collection system in order to determine compliance with local and federal discharge limits. The Field Technicians in Compliance Inspection work closely with the Environmental Compliance Inspectors to regulate dischargers. Field technicians also perform sampling at designated drinking water locations.

Two years of experience performing field technician and/or laboratory duties.

A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in environmental science, including courses in chemistry, biology or other related science may be substituted for one year of experience.

Licenses/Certificates

Possession and continued maintenance of a valid class C California driver's license and a safe driving record.

Reporting to the Director of Environmental Services, this manager leads and manages the Solid Waste Programs Division including the award-winning Sunnyvale Materials Recovery and Transfer (SMaRT) Station, the solid waste collection franchise contract and the closed Sunnyvale Landfill.
 
The Solid Waste Programs Division is leading the charge towards making Sunnyvale a Zero Waste City with the goal of 90% waste diversion by 2030 through innovative programs like FoodCycle and waste energy recovery. Another exciting challenge that the Division Manager will be leading is the rebuilding of the SMaRT Station.
 
The Solid Waste Programs Division Manager is a management classification responsible for a wide range of functions including preparing and administering the divisional budget, supervising technical and professional staff, outside agencies and consultants, leading major projects and representing the Division with other departments.

Minimum Qualifications

Education/Experience

A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in environmental science, engineering, public administration, or related field; AND

Six (6) years of experience in solid waste management, including two (2) years of experience in a supervisory capacity.

Under general direction of the Deputy Director of Library Services, the Library Services Manager develops, implements, and evaluates public services at the Lakewood Branch Library and Learning Center with a focus on community engagement, access, equity and innovation. They provide strong leadership for adults, children, technology, and outreach to deliver services, programs and resources in response to community needs. They manage a multifaceted team of full- and part-time librarians and support staff.

The Library Services Manager is a coach, mentor, and guide with proven skills in leading people and managing programs and budgets. They will be a highly collaborative, motivated and customer-focused individual with excellent communication skills. The ideal candidate will want to be part of a dynamic leadership team, a risk-taker, solve problems with a growth mindset, and promote new initiatives in Sunnyvale’s first-ever branch library facility.
