The City of Newark is seeking a knowledgeable Equipment Mechanic I/II with hands-on automotive experience to join our Public Works Maintenance Division. This position is responsible for maintaining and repairing City vehicles and equipment; ability to repair gasoline, diesel powered, or alternative fuel powered automotives; organization and log of tasks done and perform a variety of technical tasks relative to assigned areas of responsibility.

Under general supervision, the Neighborhood Preservation Inspector ensures compliance with applicable sections of the State, Federal, and Municipal Codes, ordinances, and in relevant areas, such as property maintenance, abandoned vehicles, planning, zoning, signs, community nuisance, and related areas. This is a classification in the Economic and Community Development Department.
CLASS CHARACTERISITICS:
The Environmental Services Manager is a member of the Public Works Department, reporting to the Public Works Director, and exercises independent judgment in managing the City’s Environmental Services programs. Responsibilities include overseeing waste management, recycling and organics recovery, stormwater, energy conservation, climate protection, sustainability, sea level rise adaptation, and Climate Action Plan implementation.
