Parks and Recreation Projects:

• Join our Parks and Recreation team for a hands-on summer internship focused on community engagement, event planning, and program development. This opportunity will provide exposure to a wide array of department functions and programs including (but not limited to) front office operations, marketing initiatives, youth camps, aquatics, special events, public art, and senior programming. The selected candidate will support existing programs and will also have an opportunity to collaborate on a special project of their choosing. Candidates should be prepared to share their professional goals and objectives upon appointment. Get ready to roll up your sleeves and gain real-world experience in parks and recreation!

To perform a variety of semi-skilled and skilled work involving the trimming, removal, installation and general maintenance of trees.  A primary responsibility of this position will be watering City-maintained trees.

The purpose of this recruitment is to hire a temporary/part-time position.  Applicants who do not meet the minimum qualifications for the Tree Trimmer I position may be considered for employment as an Intern.  Work hours vary by assignment and may be required to work evenings, weekends and/or holidays.  Position typically works 25-30 hours per week. 

Temporary/Part-Time employees work no more than 130 hours per month and 960 hours per Fiscal Year.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Prune trees and shrubbery to provide clearance of streets, sidewalks, signs, and lights, and as necessary to ensure continued health of the plant.  Remove fallen trees, dead limbs, and other debris resulting from storm damage and general conditions.  Participate in the large-scale application of herbicides and pesticides.  Clean and maintain trimming equipment.  Work both independently and as a crew member in removing trees and stumps.  Plant, stake, spray and inject trees.  Operate a chipper, aerial truck, mist sprayer and miscellaneous equipment which could include routers, loaders, forklifts, and dump trucks.  Use a variety of hand tools including hand saws, pole saws, chain saws, and pole loppers.  Regular and consistent attendance.

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS

May perform street drainage maintenance or other public works maintenance work when not assigned to tree trimming duties.  Respond to emergency situations after regular working hours.   Perform related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education:  High School diploma or equivalent.

Experience:  Six (6) months of work experience involving tree maintenance or landscaping work including some tree trimming.

License and Certificate:  Required upon hire, possession of a valid California driver's license.

The Department

The Parks and Recreation Department is the third largest department in the City and is organized by program area, with each program administered by a supervisor, coordinator, or specialist. The Department

The Community Services Department plays a key role in enhancing the community and ensuring the citizens of Fremont receive excellent customer service through the management of recreation facilities, quality recreation and environmental programs, and park planning.

The Position

The Park Ranger/Naturalist will provide information and assistance to the public, as well as enforce laws, rules, regulations, and the Fremont Municipal Code. The primary focus of the position will be to assist with implementing the initiatives of the Homeless Task Force. Additionally, the incumbent may conduct natural resource protection and environmental education programs.

Examples of Job Duties

• Work in prescribed uniform and is responsible for general patrol and supervision of City of Fremont’s parks, plazas and trails.
• Interact and engage with unhoused populations on a daily basis, providing guidance and encouragement, enforcing laws and regulations and connecting community members with service providers.
• Perform homeless response strategies and mitigation efforts, such as posting notice to abate nuisance tags, collection on unattended property and removal of debris.

The City of Berkeley invites you to apply for the position of Assistant Civil Engineer! MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

A typical way of gaining the knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position is:
Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university with major coursework in civil engineering and two (2) years of professional civil engineering experience in design and construction work at a level equivalent to the City of Berkeley Junior Public Works Engineer classification.

The Position

The City of Fremont is seeking a full-time Urban Forestry Service Corps Supervisor. This position is temporary, starting January 6, 2025, and ending December 19, 2025. This position works five days a week supervising and instructing small cohorts of Urban Forestry Service Corps members through a combination of in-class learning and in-the-field service projects. This position reports to the city Urban Forestry Manager.

• Educate corps members on a variety of topics related to urban forestry.
