The City of Sebastopol is seeking an engaging, inclusive, collaborative, and talented leader who is well-versed in project management, facility and infrastructure maintenance, water distribution and wastewater collection systems, public parks and facilities maintenance, and related laws, regulations, and safety standards. The Director of Public Works will oversee the City Engineer, direct assigned personnel, and coordinate assigned activities with other departments and outside agencies. This position plans, organizes, directs, and reviews the full range of activities, personnel, and operations of the Department of Public Works, including public works construction and inspection, repair and maintenance of City infrastructure and streets, the contract for City Engineer services, and engineering and transportation permits and programs.

The Director of Public Works will demonstrate cultural competency working with all community members regardless of cultural differences or circumstances, including race, ethnicity, religion, language, gender identity, age, marital and familial status, sexual orientation, diverse physical and learning abilities, socioeconomic status, and other identities. This role's duties allow for a broad scope of independent decision-making within legal, policy, and regulatory guidelines. Salary range(s) for this classification is/are:   

• Building Inspector Combination: $114,769.20 - $139,579.44 
• Building Inspector Combination Certified I: $118,154.40 - $143,554.32 
• Building Inspector Combination Certified II: $121,321.20 - $147,878.64 
• Building Inspector Combination Certified III: $126,169.68 - $153,709.92 
• Building Inspector Combination Certified Senior: $143,073.84 - $174,370.56 

This salary range(s) includes an approximate five percent (5%) ongoing non-pensionable compensation. Actual salary shall be determined by the final candidates’ qualifications and experience.   

The Building Inspector Combination/Certified I/II/III/Senior position will be located subject to business need. This position will provide inspection support at a variety of City of San José facilities, including the Airport, Regional Wastewater Facility and Central Service Yard.  

Key responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to the following:  

• Conduct inspections of industrial, commercial, manufacturing, and facilities to ensure compliance with codes, regulations, ordinances, standards, and contract agreements which includes setting up inspection schedules; gathering information and evidence; and, ensuring conformance to plans, specifications, and safety regulations.   

• Investigate building, construction, and land use changes in the field by gathering factual data to ascertain present use of land and location of structures; conducting background investigations and research; and preparing reports to use as evidence.   

• Provide technical assistance for development of codes and policies.   

• Generate written reports and enforcement orders which includes noting deficiencies in standards and submitting final documentation.   

• Review plans and specifications for compliance with codes which includes assisting in projects in complying with regulations, prioritizing deficiencies, and preparing timetables.   

• Provide technical support for agencies and the public which includes inputting data into system for general public access.   

• Meet with architects, engineers, City officials, and building contractors to discuss construction projects.   

• Perform other duties of a similar nature or level.

After passing required tests, the employee must commit to attending a 20-week program with the Santa Rosa Junior College Public Safety Training Center. The police academy will be held Monday – Friday and include some nights and weekends. Upon graduation, the successful trainee will be transitioned to a Field Training Officer program with the Mill Valley Police Department and promoted to Step 1 Police Officer (probationary) with full benefits. The Library and Recreation Department is comprised of two divisions, Library and Recreation & Childcare, that are dedicated to enhancing the quality of life of San Rafael residents. THE POSITION

The Senior Library Assistant performs the most complex paraprofessional library work; assists patrons; implements programs, outreach, and marketing; supervises volunteer or part-time staff within a designated service area; and provides lead direction to other Library Assistants.
