Program Assistant: Adults and Seniors

Salary Range: $18.52 - $30.68/hour, depending on experience.

DEFINITION

Assists in the planning, coordination, implementation, and evaluation of programs, events, and services in a designated area of Recreation Arts and Community Services. Provides highly organized and responsible administrative and programmatic support to the Program Coordinator, including assistance with internal programs, volunteer coordination, and preparation of the quarterly activity guide, etc. Recommends and coordinates the purchase of program supplies and equipment. Helps foster and maintain positive relationships within the community to enhance program offerings and engagement.

• This is a part-time, temporary, at-will, non-benefited position.
• Flexible schedule of 15-20 hours per week, including some evenings and weekends; not-to-exceed 950 hours per calendar year.
• This position is Primarily located at the Danville Senior Center with some responsibilities at various location around Town depending on program needs.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED

General supervision is received from the Program Coordinator and the Program Supervisor.  May exercise supervision of part-time personnel and volunteers as assigned.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES

Essential duties are inclusive of, but not limited to, the following:

• Assist in the planning, coordination, implementation, and evaluation of innovative programs, events, and services for older adults.
• Provide administrative and programmatic support to the Program Coordinator and Supervisor, including internal events, volunteer programs, and special initiatives such as Buzz Sessions.
• Deliver excellent customer service by responding to inquiries, processing registrations, and assisting with facility reservations and general front desk operations at the Danville Senior Center.
• Supervise and motivate part-time staff, volunteers, and program participants to ensure a safe, inclusive, and engaging environment.
• Support the coordination and execution of community events, including the Recreation Expo, Senior Variety Show, and other department-wide initiatives.
• Assist with the preparation, proofreading, and editing of the quarterly Activity Guide, ensuring consistency with online registration systems.
• Maintain accurate records and ensure all documents, spreadsheets, and files are organized and accessible using designated systems such as SharePoint.
• Monitor facility conditions and promptly report maintenance issues using the Town’s CRM system.
• Assist with public communications and manage the Seniors' Inbox.
• Perform duties in compliance with OSHA standards, Town policies, and departmental procedures.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Applicant must be at least 18 years old.  Receive satisfactory results from a background investigation and fingerprinting. Provide written proof of a negative TB test before the appointment.

Knowledge of:

• Recreational programs, developmentally appropriate group activities, and applicable health and safety regulations.
• Record keeping practices and procedures; office practices, procedures, and equipment.

Ability to:

• Pay attention to detail and accuracy within events and programming.
• Understand and follow oral and written directions; communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, to establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers and members of the public.
• Build relationships and compose correspondence with outside vendors for internal programming and volunteering.
• Provide information to the public in person, by telephone, or through written correspondence where judgment, knowledge, and interpretive skills may be required.
• Effectively utilize Microsoft Office Suite.
• Must be able to provide a TB test result within the last four years, or obtain a new record.

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION

Any combination of experience and education that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying.  A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

Education:

Graduation from high school or equivalent is required, with college-level coursework completed in Recreation, Human Development, Education, or a related field preferred. 

Experience:

Background in municipal parks and recreation and/or Adult and Senior Services is desirable.  Supervision of part-time and/or volunteer personnel is highly desirable. Customer service experience required. 

LICENSE(S) AND CERTIFICATION(S)

Possession of a valid California State Driver's License, or a license in another state with the ability to obtain a California license within 30 days of hire.  First Aid and CPR/AED certification is required but may be obtained during the first 90 days of employment.

PROGRAM LEADER (SPORTS AND FITNESS)

Salary Range: $17.37 to $23.15/hour, DOE

This is a part-time, temporary, non-benefitted position; 15-20 hours per week (not to exceed 950 hours per calendar year); predominantly afternoon/evening schedule, some weekends.

DEFINITION
The Town seeks gym monitors, scorekeepers, and leaders for the Junior Warriors youth basketball program. Responsibilities focus on monitoring basketball practices and games for kindergarten-aged through middle school participants. Basketball knowledge is preferred but not required. All staff will be cross-trained to assist with multiple aspects of the program, including refereeing younger age groups (K–3rd grade) and scorekeeping/timekeeping for older age groups. CPR/FA certification is recommended but not required.
 

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED
Program Leader receives supervision from the Program Coordinator and/or Program Assistant.
 

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES
Essential duties may include, but are not limited to:
•Gym monitoring for practices and games, including opening the gym, setting up and lowering hoops, and cleaning up.
•Refereeing for younger age groups (K–3rd grade).
•Scorekeeping and timekeeping for older age groups.
•Completing program score sheets, reports, and timesheets according to deadlines.
•Attending monthly staff meetings.
•Various tasks related to the implementation of youth basketball programs.
 

QUALIFICATIONS

•Good social skills to communicate with managers, coaches, parents, and children.
•Team player.
•Able to work independently.
•Flexible and willing to learn and teach.
 

SCHEDULE:
•Practices begin in December during the week (gym monitoring shifts).
•Games start in January and occur on weekends (Saturdays and Sundays).

About the Position: The Midpeninsula Regional Open Space District (Midpen) seeks a Public Affairs Intern to assist with a variety of tasks, including researching and writing for Midpen print and digital publications, creating web and social media content, representing Midpen at community events, working with community partner organizations, managing photo databases, drafting media advisories and press releases and other duties as assigned. Basic Requirements: Internships are open to applications from current students or recent graduates (within the last 12 months). Successful candidates will have a background in public affairs, communications, public relations, marketing, policy and government, journalism, community relations, customer service or a similar field. Candidates who also have experience, knowledge of or an interest in natural history and sciences, environmental studies, parks and open space or interpretation would benefit from this internship. Experience with social media platforms and tools, website content management systems, event management and email marketing platforms are a plus. Possession of a valid California driver’s license is required. 

 Working Conditions/Schedule: The Public Affairs Intern will work at Midpen’s Administrative Office in Los Altos, CA.  Midpen offers a hybrid work environment for this position, and will be divided between on-site work at the Administrative Office in Los Altos, at-home office work and some outdoor work. Candidates should expect to work from the office a minimum of 2 days each week. This position will be required to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed for in-person special events. The intern will be required to work the weekends of April 18 & 19, April 25 & 26, May 2 & 3 and June 6 & 7. This is a temporary position working 20 – 40 hours per week, which will extend up to a total of 950 hours over a 6-9 month period. This is a non-benefited position.

Requirements:  Basic requirements include high school diploma or G.E.D.; possession of a valid California driver’s license; skills to perform basic construction and maintenance assignments; ability to perform manual labor requiring bending, stooping, kneeling, and lifting; and the ability to work in, or around, poison oak. Highly desirable traits include prior work experience in a park, forest, or public recreation area involving work with equipment and tools used in park maintenance.  Candidates selected for the position will be required to successfully pass and obtain a certification in Basic First Aid/CPR, AED for Lay Responders.   

Schedules: This is a full-time (preferred), Monday through Friday position, with occasional weekend and holiday work required. Seasonal assignments will not exceed 950 hours or 6 months, whichever comes first, and do not include benefits. Seasonal Open Space Technicians are expected to work a minimum of 5 consecutive months.

Working Conditions:  Employees work in the field in rugged and remote areas and are exposed to loud noise levels, cold and hot temperatures, inclement weather conditions, road hazards, vibration, confining workspace, chemicals, mechanical or electrical hazards, hazardous physical substances and fumes, and poison oak.

The City of Newark is seeking an experienced skateboarding instructor who can connect with participants of all ages, especially youth and teens. The Recreation Instructor will be responsible for the planning and implementation of skateboarding classes to be held at Mel Nunes Skatepark in Newark. Responsibilities include teaching fundamental techniques, promoting safety, and creating an encouraging environment where participants can build confidence and have fun while learning to skate.

REQUIREMENTS

• Must be Available for a variety of shifts and times to meet program needs including weekends.

We’re looking for a highly motivated, reliable and skilled individual to join the Public Works Department in the position of Cross Connection Control Specialist.  Working in the Utilities Section, you will oversee the City’s cross-connection control program, including backflow device testing and cross-connection control related inspections.  You will join a fast-paced, dynamic team environment, serving the City’s residents, visitors and business community by providing exceptional customer service. Review our detailed job description here.

What You'll Do:

• Conduct cross-connection surveys and tests to identify potential cross-connections to the water system. 
• Monitor the provision of backflow prevention at user connections. 
• Provide technical supervision over maintenance staff performing backflow prevention assembly installation, repair, inspection, and testing.
• Inspect potable and recycled water systems to determine the existence of cross connections and recommend corrective actions as necessary.
• Test, install, repair, and maintain backflow prevention assemblies.
• Perform plan reviews to ensure proper water system connections.   Identify potential cross-connections and provide written comments.
• Maintain records of installations, locations, tests, and repairs of backflow prevention assemblies.

The Essentials:

Cross-Connection Control Specialist

• Two years of experience in water system maintenance, equivalent to the responsibilities of a Water Utility Worker in the City of Mountain View
• Equivalent to completion of the 12th grade supplemented by approved courses of instruction in the theory, laws, regulations, and techniques of backflow prevention and/or cross-connection control.
• Possession of a valid California Class C driver’s license.
• Possession of an AWWA Backflow Prevention Assembly Tester Certificate and a California Water Resources Control Board Water Distribution Operator Grade 1 Certificate.  
• Possession of an AWWA Cross-Connection Control Specialist Certificate within one year of appointment.  

Bonus Points:

• Experience administering a water system cross-connection inspection program is highly desirable.
• Completion of a recycled water site supervisor’s training class is highly desirable.
