The City of Orinda Parks and Recreation Department is currently seeking two (2) qualified individuals with the passion and desire to work with youth campers as a summer Camp Coordinator (Recreation Program Specialist) in the Parks and Recreation Department.   This position takes direction from the Camp Director and reports to the City's full-time Recreation Coordinator.

Supervision:

Under the general supervision of the Recreation Coordinator and Camp Director, Camp Coordinators are responsible for the day-to-day operations of their assigned summer day camp:  executing weekly curriculums by ordering supplies, supervising their camp staff, and leading all of their camp activities on a daily basis.  The City of Orinda offers two city-run camps:  Camp Orinda and Camp Orinda Jr.

Camp Orinda is a full-day (9:00 am to 4:00 pm) traditional camp for 6 to 11 year olds.

Camp Orinda Jr. is a half-day camp (9:15 am to 12:45 pm) for 3 1/2 to 5-year olds.

Essential Duties:

• Execute the camp curriculum in accordance with the Camp Director and Recreation Coordinator.
• Lead arts, crafts and games according to the theme of the week.
• Participate in weekly camp debriefs with Camp Director.
• Offer leadership, guidance and direction to Camp Counselors.
• Supervise Counselors-in-Training (CIT), pair CIT's with experienced Camp Counselors, and delegate CIT weekly duties during CIT camp week.
• Serve as a mentor and role model to campers and communicate effectively with guardians and families.
• Safely and appropriately supervise all campers.  Camp Orinda Coordinator will supervise campers on weekly field trips around the East Bay.
• Monitor supplies and create weekly supply list.
• Ensure the health and safety of all campers are prioritized in all summer camp programs.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education: Must have completed at least eleventh (11) grade or graduated from high school by the start of camp.  High school or college-level coursework in Recreation, Sports, Administration, Human Development, Education or related field is preferred.  

Experience: Recreation, athletics and/or education experience is desirable.  Experience teaching and/or working with children and youth age twelve (12) and under is preferred.

Licenses/Certifications: CPR, First Aid, and AED training and/or certification are required prior to the first day of camp.  There will be a CPR, First Aid and AED training at the May 30, 2026 training for any staff that is not certified by this date.

Special Requirements:   This is a mandated reporter position.  Appointment to this position is contingent upon:

• A valid work permit issued from school (if under age 18 and have not graduated from high school or received a State Certificate of Proficiency).

Supervision:

Under the general supervision of the Recreation Coordinator, the Camp Director assists the Recreation Coordinator in the administration of summer camp staffing, programming, training and camper/family relations.  The Camp Director is responsible for overseeing the camp coordinators and camp counselors, and the Director is the on-site camp liaison for families. 

This position is a 40 hour per week Monday through Friday seasonal position during summer.  In addition to staff recruitment and selection and summer program planning hours prior to camp start dates, there is also an opportunity to continue employment on a part-time basis with the Parks and Recreation Department during the school year to assist in the planning and implementation of Orinda Youth Sports (OYS), adult sports, and the Orinda Teen Advisory Council (OTAC).

Essential Duties:

• Collaborate with Recreation Coordinator to develop, coordinate and facilitate summer camp programs and activities.
• Oversee camp staff, and promote a safe, supportive and engaging environment for all staff.
• Assist Recreation Coordinator in staff hiring and training and with staff scheduling and evaluation.
• Lead weekly debriefs involving city-run summer camps with Camp Coordinators.
• Direct Counselor-in-Training camp during last one week of summer.
• Utilize strong communication and decision-making skills to handle crisis management, discipline, or troubleshooting issues related to campers, families or staff.
• Maintain fiscal records and work within budget to order and maintain camp supplies and resources.
• Act as liaison between families, campers, staff, and Parks and Recreation Department.
• Ensure the health and safety of all campers and staff are prioritized in all summer camp programs.
• Support Recreation Coordinator with ePACT management and administration.

• Bring energy and enthusiasm to the camp environment every day.
• Safely and appropriately supervise campers at all times.
• Plan and lead arts, crafts, games and sports according to the theme of the week.
• Serve as a mentor and role model to campers by modeling positive behavior at all times.
• Use positive discipline with campers and communicate effectively with parents and guardians.
• Effectively collaborate with fellow camp staffers and Parks and Recreation Department staff.

About the Position

This temporary position will work directly with the Recreation Supervisor-Special Events, assisting with the coordination, management, and implementation of special events operated by the City of San Carlos. This position will work evenings and weekends as needed from May – September 2026.

Essential Duties

• Assist with logistical elements of each event during the event-planning process, be onsite as needed during events for set-up, tear-down, problem-solving, and post-event tasks

The Position:

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will have a valid State of California driver’s license. Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. Typical ways to obtain knowledge and abilities would be:

• Experience: Two years of responsible paid leadership experience in recreation or a related human services setting
• Training: Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade supplemented by college-level courses in recreation or a related field.

The candidate should know the basic principles and methods of planning, coordinating, and leading recreation and human services programs and activities. They should understand simple arithmetic and how to handle recreation equipment and materials.  A candidate should have knowledge of general office procedures and an understanding of community groups, activities, programs, and facilities. They should understand the basic principles of supervision, training, and performance evaluations. Bilingual ability in Spanish is highly desirable. A bilingual pay differential is available for candidates fluent in identified languages. Availability is required between 20 and 40 hours per week, depending on the time of year. Availability is typically Monday through Friday; however, occasional weeknights and weekends will be required for PAL special events.

Job Responsibilities:

Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Instruct and lead specialized recreation and human services activities in such areas as sports, cultural arts, programs for the handicapped, senior citizens, crafts, teens and other areas of leadership requiring leadership in a structured environment.
• Provide activities and general facility supervision and control at a community recreation center or special use facility.
• Coordinate, develop, implement, and evaluate programs and services in assigned program area. Perform a variety of office related functions including program registration, answering citizen inquiries both in person and on the telephone and maintaining routine records and reports as required.

PAL (Police Activities League) Program Attendants work in the formal Suisun City classification of Recreation Specialist I. Starting hourly rate will depend on qualifications. This position works on average 19 hours per week.

The Department: The Recreation, Parks and Marina Department is responsible for the operations and programs of the Suisun City Marina, the Senior Center and the Joseph A. DEFINITION 

As a Building Attendant, you will be responsible for the daily upkeep and maintenance of the Burlingame Community Center, ensuring a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for all occupants. This role requires a hands-on individual with excellent attention to detail and strong communication skills.

Hours: (Average 10-20 hours per week). Hours depend on rentals and special events. Shifts may include, but are not limited too:

Monday-Thursday: 2:30pm-9:15pm

Friday: 2:30pm-5:30pm
Saturday/Sunday: 7:30am-1:15pm
Saturday/Sunday: 12:45pm-5:30pm
As needed: Private rentals as late as 2:00am. Shifts will vary week to week. There is no set schedule.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:  (include but are not limited to the following)
Opens and closes the building, provides excellent customer service, and maintains a clean, safe, and welcoming environment. Performs regular cleaning tasks such as sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, cleaning windows and mirrors, restocking and sanitizing restrooms, emptying trash and recycling, and wiping down surfaces. Assists with event and class setup and takedown of tables, chairs, and equipment, operates audiovisual equipment, and ensures renters follow facility policies, completing final walk-through reports as needed. Staffs the front desk to greet visitors, answer questions, answer phones, take messages, and process registrations and sales.

KNOWLEDGE/ABILITIES/SKILLS:

Benefits

Healthy Workplaces/Healthy Families Act of 2014 Paid Sick Leave Benefit. This benefit accrues at the rate of one hour for every 30 hours worked to a maximum benefit of 24 hours per year. There is no cash value associated with benefit.

Vacation Pay. This benefit is for part-time casual employees who work 30 or more days within a year from the beginning of employment with the City of Burlingame, and accrues at the rate of one hour for every 52 hours worked to a maximum benefit of 16 hours per year.  No employee shall be allowed to have an accumulation of more than two years’ worth of vacation accrual to their credit at any one time.

The General Maintenance Worker plays a vital role in keeping our communities and centers clean, safe, and visually appealing. This position focuses on a specific set of tasks tailored to meet the needs of the Recreation & Community Services Department, differing from the broader responsibilities of a full General Maintenance Worker under the Public Works Department. The Recreation Coordinator or Recreation and Community Services Supervisor is the key point of contact for this position, providing general direction and/or supervision.

1. Field Preparation: Assist t with basic field preparation for baseball and softball, including tasks like dragging the infield play area, marking chalk lines, and other essential setup activities.
    
2. Groundskeeping: Support keeping the exterior areas of community centers clean and presentable by removing trash and maintaining general tidiness. Assist with watering and care of indoor plants within recreation centers as needed.
    
3. Facility Cleaning: Perform light janitorial duties, including cleaning restrooms, fitness centers, and lobbies.

This role oversees the full lifecycle of major community events, including concept development, budgeting, sponsorship coordination, vendor and performer booking, permitting, logistics, safety planning, marketing coordination, and on-site production. Signature events such as outdoor concert series, holiday celebrations, cultural festivals, movie nights, and destination activations require thoughtful coordination with Police, Fire, Public Works, Economic Development, and community partners. The Manager leads cross-departmental teams, supervises event staff, manages complex timelines, and ensures every event is inclusive, professionally executed, and reflective of Redwood City’s diverse and dynamic community.

In addition to overseeing special events, this role supports the City’s cultural arts programs and public art initiatives. Responsibilities include serving as staff liaison to the Arts Commission, supporting implementation of the Public Art Master Plan, assisting with Percent for Art ordinance compliance, coordinating with developers on qualifying projects, and helping maintain and promote the City’s growing public art collection.

More broadly, this position negotiates, prepares, and manages contracts and agreements with vendors, performers, artists, and community partners, while ensuring compliance with City policies and maintaining strong inter-agency collaboration.

The Newark Recreation and Community Services Department is seeking enthusiastic individuals who are passionate about working with the public and have a genuine interest in coaching and serving as positive role models in their community. This role involves teaching the fundamentals of various sports, as well as coaching, refereeing, and scorekeeping for both youth and adult sports programs.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Coach and referee youth & adult sports programs to maintain standards of play and ensure the safety of all participants.

• Teach and explain the rules and regulations of basketball, volleyball, baseball, etc.

• Confer with other coaches/referees, players and facility managers in order to provide information, coordinate activities, and discuss problems.

• Score keep or referee games as assigned.

• Maintain the gymnasium area including equipment and facility.

• Meet and deal tactfully and effectively with the public.

• Perform other job-related duties within the scope of this job classification as assigned.
