The City of Sebastopol is seeking an engaging, inclusive, collaborative, and talented leader who is well-versed in project management, facility and infrastructure maintenance, water distribution and wastewater collection systems, public parks and facilities maintenance, and related laws, regulations, and safety standards. The Director of Public Works will oversee the City Engineer, direct assigned personnel, and coordinate assigned activities with other departments and outside agencies. This position plans, organizes, directs, and reviews the full range of activities, personnel, and operations of the Department of Public Works, including public works construction and inspection, repair and maintenance of City infrastructure and streets, the contract for City Engineer services, and engineering and transportation permits and programs.

The City of Pacifica is currently recruiting for a Permit Technician to join our team. Under general supervision, the incumbent will perform a variety of technical and administrative duties in support of the Community Development Department, including providing information to the public.

ESSENTIAL AND IMPORTANT DUTIES:

• Greet/acknowledge customers who contact the Community Development Department while assessing the nature of issues with appropriate and timely responses.

The Building Inspector Combination/Certified I/II/III/Senior position will be located subject to business need. This position will provide inspection support at a variety of City of San José facilities, including the Airport, Regional Wastewater Facility and Central Service Yard.  

Key responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to the following:  

• Conduct inspections of industrial, commercial, manufacturing, and facilities to ensure compliance with codes, regulations, ordinances, standards, and contract agreements which includes setting up inspection schedules; gathering information and evidence; and, ensuring conformance to plans, specifications, and safety regulations.   

• Investigate building, construction, and land use changes in the field by gathering factual data to ascertain present use of land and location of structures; conducting background investigations and research; and preparing reports to use as evidence.   

• Provide technical assistance for development of codes and policies.   

• Generate written reports and enforcement orders which includes noting deficiencies in standards and submitting final documentation.   

• Review plans and specifications for compliance with codes which includes assisting in projects in complying with regulations, prioritizing deficiencies, and preparing timetables.   

• Provide technical support for agencies and the public which includes inputting data into system for general public access.   

• Meet with architects, engineers, City officials, and building contractors to discuss construction projects.

If selected for the position, the employee will undergo a full background check, psychological testing, and medical testing. After passing required tests, the employee must commit to attending a 20-week program with the Santa Rosa Junior College Public Safety Training Center. The police academy will be held Monday – Friday and include some nights and weekends. The next academy is January 5 - May 22, 2026. 

Upon graduation, the successful trainee will be transitioned to a Field Training Officer program with the Mill Valley Police Department and promoted to Step 1 Police Officer (probationary) with full benefits. If the employee does not complete and graduate the police academy with a POST academy certificate, they will be released from employment. The applicant may be released at any point they do not pass required testing during the course of the police academy.

The Police Officer Trainee position enables an incumbent to attend a local law enforcement academy and earn their POST (California Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training) certificate of academy completion while enjoying the support and mentorship of our agency, and receiving compensation. The City of Foster City is actively seeking a dedicated and responsible individual to join our team as a Building Services Assistant. In this role, you will provide physical set-up arrangements for classes, meetings, activities for public and private functions in the community buildings; assure security of buildings; and providing public information about recreation activities. This is a part-time, non-benefited position.

Education and Training Guidelines
Any combination equivalent to experience and education that could likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities would be qualifying. A typical way would be: 

• Education: Completion of the tenth grade or equivalent.
• Experience: Providing public services, information or directions; or performing group function arrangements or coordination is desirable.

Special Requirements
Ability to lift and move chairs, tables and equipment up to 40 lbs.; work under minimal direct supervision; work flexible hours; remain calm and use good judgement in difficult and emergency situations; provide courteous public service; drive a car/van to other city facilities.
