The City of Menlo Park is seeking engineering professionals, with exceptional technical and project management skills, for Senior Civil Engineer positions in the Public Works Department (Department) Capital Improvement Program (CIP) Division. The Senior Engineer will lead capital improvement projects under the supervision of the City Engineer or Public Works Director. The CIP team delivers projects for City owned facilities including streets, buildings, storm and domestic water, and parks. The Senior Civil Engineer is responsible for executing CIP projects from planning through completion and managing assigned staff.

• Flood protection and stormwater management programs particularly along the San Francisco Bay, San Francisquito Creek and Atherton Channel
• 14 parks, 2 open spaces, 14 playgrounds, 2 dog parks, 9 sports fields, and 14 tennis/pickleball courts
• Efforts to preserve and expand the urban canopy, including 20,000 public trees
• Multimodal transportation services including 42 traffic signals, safe routes to schools and citywide shuttle programs.

In addition, the City has an approximate $100 million capital improvement program, in part due to a successful track record in pursuing grants from a variety of local, state and federal sources. Air Quality Engineer II is the journey level in this series. Incumbents perform a variety of difficult air quality engineering work and exercise a greater latitude of independent judgment. About the Division

The Assessment, Inventory, and Modeling (AIM) Division prepares comprehensive source emission inventories for the Bay Area and conducts air quality modeling at both regional and community scales. AIM prepares technical assessments that evaluate equity in air pollution exposures and health impacts in support of Air District programs. AIM coordinates and implements programs to improve and report estimates of emissions of criteria pollutants, toxic air contaminants, and climate forcing pollutants. AIM assesses emissions, modeled concentrations, and exposures of toxic air contaminants, particulate matter, ozone and their precursors, to support targeted strategies that reduce impacts of air pollution both regionally and within communities, especially in impacted communities requiring action plans in accordance with Assembly Bill 617 (AB617). AIM reviews and provides guidance on environmental health risk assessments within environmental review documents prepared pursuant to California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA).

The County of San Mateo Planning & Building Department is seeking well-qualified candidates for the position of Building Inspector.

Under general supervision, Building Inspectors inspect public and private buildings, structures, and related installations being constructed, altered, or repaired to determine conformance with approved plans and specifications and compliance with applicable laws and ordinances. In addition, Building Inspectors investigate complaints, advise and assist building contractors and property owners on the use of materials and building methods, and coordinate inspections with other agencies and organizations. Building Inspector I is the trainee level class in the Building Inspector series, responsible for learning the tasks and responsibilities involved in the inspection of public and private buildings. This class is distinguished from Building Inspector II/III by the performance of the more routine tasks and duties assigned to positions within this series. Employees at this level work under general supervision while learning job tasks, but as experience is gained, incumbents work with greater independence and are given more responsible assignments. Work is typically reviewed in progress and upon completion for conformance with established procedures.

Building Inspector II is the journey-level class in the Building Inspector series. Employees at this level are capable of working independently and performing a full range of inspections of plumbing, mechanical, electrical, and structural work as well as general construction.

Building Inspector III is the advanced level class in the Building Inspector series. This class is distinguished from Building Inspector II by the performance of the full range of more complex and difficult inspection activities. Employees at this level assist in training less experienced inspectors and provide assistance with difficult situations in the field. Positions in this class series are flexibly staffed and are normally filled by advancement based on experience and acceptable work performance.

The ideal candidate will have:

• At least two years of experience conducting a full range of inspections of buildings and related structures and working in a jurisdiction performing a combination of field inspections and minor plan reviews.
• Be well-versed in the area of building construction and safety.
• Have experience training less experienced inspectors and provide assistance with difficult situations in the field.
• The ability to analyze and interpret building and zoning codes, ability to determine the scope of grading and erosion control.

Examples Of Duties

Qualifications

Education and Experience: Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying.

Building Inspector II: One year of experience in conducting a full range of inspections of buildings and related structures.

Building Inspector III:Two years of experience in conducting a full range of inspections of buildings and related structures.

Licensure/Certification:

Building Inspector I: Obtain certification as a building inspector from a recognized state, national or international association within two years of employment, pursuant to State requirements.

How to qualify

Education: Possession of a baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university AND

The qualified candidate will be responsible for:

• Assisting in the completion of audit projects independently and with a team.
• Performing risk assessments of operations, business processes/procedures, and internal controls.
• Identifying and communicating issues and developing recommended internal control procedures and solutions to address business risks and improve operational effectiveness.
• Ensuring audit findings, analysis, and recommendations are well supported with proper documentation and evidence.
• Following up with auditees and others to ensure assigned audits and projects stay on track and requested information and documents are provided in a timely manner.
• Developing audit programs and testing procedures relevant to risks and testing objectives.
• Developing effective working relationships with auditees.
• Preparing well-written audit reports and other communications in an accurate, clear and concise manner.

THE CONTROLLER'S OFFICE

The Controller's Office mission is to promote the County's operational effectiveness and ensure its financial transparency and integrity by providing quality accounting, audit, and financial reporting services.

THE INTERNAL AUDIT DIVISION

The Division works to help safeguard County assets and reduce risks. This is accomplished by conducting independent operations and internal control audits to assist County management to improve operations and reduce risks related to County’s programs, functions, and information systems. Audits are conducted in accordance with the Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA) guidelines.

Examples Of Duties

Duties may include, but are not limited, to the following:

• Prepare clear, concise, and complete data analyses, audit reports, and audit work papers.
• Review internal controls, analyze trends, make recommendations to process procedures and controls, and follow up to ensure that recommendations have been implemented.
• Conduct assigned audit engagements successfully from beginning to end.
• Conduct internal audits of County departments, divisions, and agencies.
• Conduct reviews of County contractors’ compliance with contract and other regulatory requirements.
• Provide technical support to external auditors and governmental program auditors.
• Conduct research of best practices.
• Perform related duties or special projects as assigned.
