About the Position

This temporary position will work directly with the Recreation Supervisor-Special Events, assisting with the coordination, management, and implementation of special events operated by the City of San Carlos. This position will work evenings and weekends as needed from May – September 2026.

Essential Duties

• Assist with logistical elements of each event during the event-planning process, be onsite as needed during events for set-up, tear-down, problem-solving, and post-event tasks
• Perform administrative tasks including purchase inquiries and scheduling
• Staff and maintain the City Information Booth as required at each event
• Establish and maintain relationships with vendors, suppliers, contractors and entertainment
• Be available for event meetings as required

The City of Menlo Park's Information Technology team is seeking a temporary IT Specialist who has a broad range of support skills to provide day to day computer/desktop support, end-point configuration and management, helpdesk support and management, and maintain and troubleshoot various systems hardware, software, peripherals, A/V, telephones and mobile devices. The City of Burlingame is accepting applications for: Temporary Parks and Tree Worker

The Position
Under the direct supervision of a Lead Worker, or higher level staff, the Parks and Tree Worker performs a variety of skilled gardening, landscape and tree maintenance duties associated with the development, repair, and maintenance of public landscaped areas and trees, and performs related work as required.

Examples of Duties (include but are not limited to the following)

• Maintain grounds and plantings in City parks, recreation facilities, playground areas, municipal building grounds, and street median islands.
• Maintain designated landscape effects through mowing, edging, pruning, weeding, fertilizing, cultivating, and planting lawns, shrubs, ground cover, trees, and flower beds.
• Pick up, clean and remove trash and debris from parks and public property; clean rest rooms and park buildings.
• Operate various power equipment including mowers, edgers, line trimmers, backpack blowers, sprayers, chain saws, aerators, chippers, brush cutters, sweeper, auger, front-end loader, tractor and its implements, weed whip, stumper, sod cutter, and shop tools.
• Prepare athletic fields for seasonal sports events; paint park benches, grandstands, and fences; install and repair fences, tennis nets, basketball standards, backstops, benches, paths, and playground equipment;
• Operate automatic irrigation controllers and assist in the installation of irrigation systems.
• Assist tree trimmers by lowering cut limbs with ropes and assist in removing trees and stumps.
• Drive, load and unload vehicles used to transport materials, tools and equipment.
• Perform traffic control.
• Work cooperatively and effectively with coworkers.
• Respond to inquiries from the general public. 

Minimum Qualifications
Knowledge of: Basic methods, tools, materials, and equipment used in grounds and tree maintenance work; basic construction and repair methods; and safe work practices.

Ability to: Perform semi-skilled landscape maintenance work; learn to operate the full range of light and heavy equipment used in landscape and tree maintenance work; work off of ladders; set up safe work sites; learn geography of the City and sites of City parks and maintenance areas; work cooperatively and effectively with co-workers and provide general assistance to the public; work weekends and holidays as required; learn multiple safety procedures and practices related to landscape maintenance, tree maintenance and tree removal.

Skills: Ability to efficiently use hand and power tools listed above required in general park and tree work, and learn to use new equipment as required.

Education and Experience: Sufficient education and experience to perform the above duties which is typically obtained through prior experience in gardening, grounds keeping, landscape, construction or tree work and completion of the twelfth grade or equivalent.

License/Certificate: Class C driver’s license issued by the California Department of Motor Vehicles.

Physical, Mental and Environmental Working Conditions
Position requires sitting, standing, walking on level and slippery surfaces, reaching, twisting, turning, kneeling, bending, stooping, squatting, crouching, grasping, and making repetitive hand movement in the performance of daily duties. The position also requires both near and far vision when inspecting trees and operating assigned equipment. The need to lift, carry and push tools, equipment, and supplies weighing 55 pounds or more is also required. Additionally, the incumbent in this outdoor position works in all weather conditions, including wet, hot, and cold. The incumbent may use herbicides, which may expose the employee to fumes, dust, and air contaminants, and be exposed to mechanical and electrical hazards. The nature of the work also requires the incumbent to use power and noise producing tools and equipment, including the frequent use of chain saws, drive motorized vehicles and heavy equipment, work in heavy vehicle traffic conditions, use proper safety equipment when using noisy and dangerous equipment, hear well enough to follow directions, and see well enough to read instructions.

This position is a part-time, hourly, non-benefited classification limited to a maximum of 1,000 hours per fiscal year (or approximately 20 hours a week). 

The City of Menlo Park is hiring Recreation Specialists to support City-operated Summer Camp programs serving children ages 4.5 through 13 years old for programs running June 15th through August 14th, 2026.

Under general supervision, Recreation Specialists provide direct supervision of participants and assist with age-appropriate recreational, enrichment, and physical activities in compliance with California Community Care Licensing (Title 22) requirements and City policies. This position requires active engagement with children, adherence to safety standards, and the ability to maintain required staff-to-child ratios.

This is an hourly, at-will, part-time (non-benefited) position offering paid training and valuable experience in youth development and public service.
 
Schedule

• Part to Full-day summer camp shifts
• Up to 8.5 hours per day, including a 30-minute unpaid meal period

Performs a variety of unskilled or semi-skilled maintenance work, and operates a variety of equipment in the construction, operation, repair, maintenance and replacement of Town water, sewer, street and storm drainage facilities and systems.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

Typical duties include but are not limited to:
•    Perform required labor involved in construction and maintenance projects as part of a crew, including pavement cutting, ditch digging, manhole and line cleaning, main and pipe repair, laying and backfilling.

PROGRAM LEADER (Youth Services/Kids’ Night Out/Kids Day Out Programs)

Salary Range: $17.37 to $23.15/hour (DOE)

Part-time temporary, non-benefitted position; 10 hours per month in Kids’ Night Out Program and Bi-monthly Friday night availability (6-11 pm) required. Additional shifts are available on San Ramon Unified School District days off school, during recreation pop ups, and special events. (not-to-exceed 950 hours per fiscal year)

GENERAL DUTIES

Under the general supervision of the Youth Program Coordinator, Youth Services staff is responsible for supervision and safety within the bi-monthly Kids’ Night Out and Kids Day Out Program, including implementing a variety of crafts, games and activities for youth ages 5 to 11.  As a Youth Services staff member, you will:

• Gain experience leading arts, crafts, games, and activities;
• Serve as a mentor and role model to youth;
• Learn to work as part of a team and lead activities;
• Acquire skills to safely and appropriately supervise youth in a staff-to-youth ratio environment.

The Town of Hillsborough is seeking highly motivated, positive, and people-oriented candidates for part-time per diem Communications Officer positions in the Police Department. Shift coverage is needed on daytime and overnight shifts. This position is only open to candidates with two or more years of experience as a Public Safety Dispatcher in California in the previous five (5) years.

GENERAL PURPOSE

Under general supervision, receives and transmits routine and emergency telephone and radio traffic;

dispatches and coordinates police, fire, public works and other municipal staff and equipment via multi-frequency two-way radio; maintains and processes a variety of communications reports, records, and radio logs; and does related work as required.

CLASS CHARACTERISTICS

Communications Officer II

This classification has primary responsibility for staffing the Town’s public safety dispatch communication center. Under most circumstances, the training and experience for this position would occur by having prior experience working for another police department as a Communications Officer for a period of at least two years.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Communications Officer II typically performs, but is not limited to, the duties noted below on a regular basis:

• Receives and handles incoming telephone and voice radio calls for police, fire, ambulance, and public works

• Secures and records information as to exact locations and circumstances using radio or other equipment to dispatch appropriate units to the emergency scene.

• Maintains radio contact with local units on assignment and directs and coordinates with staff from other agencies on a mutual-aid basis, as needed.

• Operates a multi-channel two-way radio, telephones, teletype, office equipment and software systems.

• Performs numerous duties simultaneously.

• Prioritizes calls for service as well as other work-related tasks such as assisting with schedule, monitoring email account or assisting with social media.

• Maintains radio logs and records other information as required.

• Maintains resource files for computer aided dispatch system.

• Serves as trainer to newly hired dispatchers on as needed basis.

• Assist with providing state-mandated training on relevant matters to other department staff, as directed.

• Oversees and performs work related to the warrant process.

• Maintains dispatch center work area and equipment in clean and working condition

The General Maintenance Worker plays a vital role in keeping our communities and centers clean, safe, and visually appealing. This position focuses on a specific set of tasks tailored to meet the needs of the Recreation & Community Services Department, differing from the broader responsibilities of a full General Maintenance Worker under the Public Works Department. The Recreation Coordinator or Recreation and Community Services Supervisor is the key point of contact for this position, providing general direction and/or supervision.

1. Field Preparation: Assist t with basic field preparation for baseball and softball, including tasks like dragging the infield play area, marking chalk lines, and other essential setup activities.
    
2. Groundskeeping: Support keeping the exterior areas of community centers clean and presentable by removing trash and maintaining general tidiness. Assist with watering and care of indoor plants within recreation centers as needed.
    
3. Facility Cleaning: Perform light janitorial duties, including cleaning restrooms, fitness centers, and lobbies.
    
4. Events & Equipment Support: Assist with event setup and teardown once events are completed. Maintain special event equipment, furniture and supplies and promptly report any damaged or broken items to a supervisor for replacement.

This fellow posting is for the Water Conservation Analyst Fellow in the City Manager’s Office – Environmental Services Division.  

PROJECT DESCRIPTION
The City of Woodland seeks a motivated public servant to join the City Manager's Office – Environmental Services Division as our Water Conservation Analyst Fellow. The Water Conservation Analyst will support key sustainability efforts by conducting a comprehensive analysis of municipal water usage and the City's response to leaks/over usage across public facilities. The Fellow will analyze five years of historical water consumption data to identify trends, anomalies, inefficiencies, and high-risk locations for water loss. A key focus of the project will be evaluating how the City currently tracks leaks and over-usage, how alerts are generated and routed, and how staff respond to those alerts. The Fellow will propose recommendations to improve leak detection, streamline response protocols, strengthen reporting systems, and reduce water waste supporting long-term water conservation goals. 

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED
Receives general directions from the designated City employee.

IDEAL CANDIDATE
The Ideal Candidate will be interested in sustainability, municipal operations and public policy. They will also be analytical and detail-oriented, preferably with experience working with large datasets. They will be comfortable cleaning, organizing, and interpreting utility data. An individual skilled in Excel and/or data tools such as GIS, Power BI, Tableau, R, or Python will excel in this role.

The Ideal Candidate will be able to translate technical findings into clear, actionable recommendations and communicate clearly with internal and external customers (facilities staff, public works teams, and sustainability leadership).

THE POSITION OBJECTIVES/GOALS
The goal of the position is:

1. Conduct Comprehensive Water Consumption Analysis
Perform a five-year longitudinal analysis of municipal water usage across City facilities to identify consumption trends, seasonal variability, anomalies, and high-risk locations for potential water loss.

2. Evaluate Leak Detection and Alert Systems
Assess the City’s current leak and over-usage tracking mechanisms, including data collection methods, alert generation protocols, routing procedures, and response timelines to determine system effectiveness and gaps.

3. Identify Operational Inefficiencies and Risk Factors
Diagnose procedural, technological, or communication breakdowns contributing to delayed responses, excessive water use, or undetected leaks, and quantify associated operational and financial impacts where feasible.

4. Develop Strategic Recommendations for System Improvement
Propose data-driven recommendations to enhance leak detection capabilities, streamline interdepartmental response workflows, strengthen reporting infrastructure, and improve accountability measures.

5. Advance Long-Term Water Conservation Outcomes
Deliver a final analytical report and implementation roadmap that supports the City’s broader sustainability and drought-resilience goals, ensuring recommendations are actionable, scalable, and aligned with municipal resource constraints.

QUALIFICATIONS

• 4+ years of high school
• Local Woodland knowledge preferred
• Strong interpersonal and communication (oral and written) skills
• Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail 
• Strong computer skills
• Ability to build and maintain trust-based relationships with multiple internal and external stakeholders

• Valid California driver license (if driving is an essential duty)

SALARY RANGE
$20.00 - $25.00 / hour dependent on experience.

The pay cycle is bi-weekly.  No other benefits compensations are provided except for worker's compensation coverage and sick leave.  Employees must contribute 1.45% of their salary to Medicare and 7.5% to a retirement plan under Federal Law.
