Maintenance Worker III is an advanced journey-level position responsible for operating a variety of light construction equipment in support of Valley Water’s maintenance and construction projects. This role provides agency-wide support for work on creeks, ponds, reservoirs, and other flood control facilities throughout the county.

Assigned to the Vegetation Field Operations Unit, this position performs a broad range of duties supporting Valley Water’s vegetation management programs. Responsibilities include vegetation control, integrated vegetation management, arboriculture, native plant revegetation, invasive plant management, and biotechnical erosion control on Valley Water properties.

This is primarily an outdoor position requiring work in varying and sometimes challenging environmental conditions, including heat, cold, and rain. Incumbents may also be required to respond to after-hours flood control emergencies, including nighttime callouts.

As a light equipment operator, the Maintenance Worker III must possess a valid Class A driver’s license to operate Valley Water commercial vehicles and to transport light equipment used in vegetation management and flood control projects. Daily equipment operation may include a compactor, water truck, tree truck and chipper, dump truck, and wheel loader. Equipment is used to haul vegetative debris, maintain native plant mitigation sites, support invasive plant management efforts, and assist with Valley Water’s sandbag operations.

This position also ultimately requires a Qualified Applicator’s Certificate (QAC) in Category C (Right-of-Way) and Category F (Aquatics) to mix and apply herbicides and calibrate spray equipment for vegetation control on Valley Water managed properties.

Key Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Operation of vehicles and equipment associated with vegetation management activities.
• Support of skilled labor contract work on vegetation management activities.
• Calibration of herbicide spray equipment, interpreting pest control recommendations, calculation of herbicide tank mixes, mixing loading and application of herbicides to control undesirable plants.
• Supporting the monitoring and assessment of success criteria on mitigation sites.
• Providing input on and assisting lead and supervisory staff in tracking daily work accomplishments associated.
• Participate in a variety of integrated vegetation management activities using chemical, mechanical, and biological controls to manage native plant revegetation projects, invasive plant management projects, vegetation control projects, tree removals, biotechnical erosion control projects, and overall integrated vegetation management work on Valley Water properties. 
• Clear brush, weeds, and debris from worksites, canals, ponds, creeks, reservoirs, pipelines, water treatment plants, dams, and other open areas; prune vegetation, perform tree removals including standing or downed trees. 
• Prepare soil and install native plant revegetation per established plans; maintain mitigation areas to achieve success criteria and meet monitoring requirements. 
• Install, adjust, and repair irrigation systems, including heads, lines, and controllers.
• Operate a variety of small power tools and light equipment, including spray equipment, mowers, chain saws, weed eaters, pole saw, hydro seeder, small trenchers, loader, compactors, water trucks, forklift, straw mulcher, auger, sandbag machine, and chipper; clean, adjust, and perform minor maintenance on light equipment to ensure proper operating condition. 
• Mix and apply herbicides, and calibration of spray equipment to control the growth of vegetation on and around flood control and water distribution facilities and rights of way. 
• Build or remove browse cages or other devices to keep wildlife from damaging native plant revegetation sites. 
• Build phytosanitary benches, fences, irrigation, etc. in support of native plant holding facility. 
• Participate in Valley Water’s sandbag program as needed. 
• Perform calculations of required work materials; document daily application of chemical use; photo documentation of work, complete work order dailies, best management practices checklists, surveys, forms, and time data entries. Maintain paper and electronic records of work performed.

Ideal Experience:

• International Society of Arboriculture ANSI pruning and safety standards. 
• Various plant diseases and pests.
• Cultural, biological, chemical, and mechanical methods for vegetation control activities. 
• Planting techniques and irrigation assembly and maintenance.
• Biotechnical erosion control techniques, including geotextile fabric installation, and hydroseeding.

Ideal Training and Education:

Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade. 

Required License or Certificate

Must have a satisfactory driving record and possess a valid California Class A driver's license with tanker endorsement at the time of hire.

Possession of a Qualified Applicator’s Certificate or Qualified Applicator License in Category C issued by the State of California’s Department of Pesticide Regulation at the time of hire.

Possession of a Qualified Applicator’s Certificate or Qualified Applicator License in Category F issued by the State of California’s Department of Pesticide Regulation within 6 months of hire.

Vegetation Field Operations Unit (Position Code 1059)
Valley Water Telework Program: Eligibility for telework will depend on the type of work performed, operational needs, and the ability for the employee to perform the essential functions of their job duties while teleworking. Employment with Valley Water requires employees to live within 150 miles of their primary physical work location located in San Jose, California by their start date.

 

This position requires the individual to be onsite and is typically not a teleworking position.

This is a professional position in the classified service assigned to work in the City’s Electric Utility Department. The incumbent will manage and operate Windows Server, Active Directory, HP Synergy Compute Modules, SAN / LUN Administration.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Minimum Education Requirements:

Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university with major work in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field.

 

Minimum Experience Requirements:

Four (4) years experience with real-time energy management systems involving development, implementation, and management.

 

Acceptable Substitution:

Additional qualifying experience may be substituted on a year for year basis for the required education, up to a maximum of four (4) years.

 

License/Certifications:

Possession of a valid California Class C driver’s license is required at time of appointment and for the duration of employment.

 

Desirable Qualifications:

• Experience with Remote Terminal Units (RTU’s), microprocessor based relays, Distributed Network Protocol (DNP), and ABB Network Manager – S (SPIDER) Energy Management Systems (EMS), VM Ware, virtualization, SAN/NAS storage, and IBM Blade Centers is highly desirable.
   
• Experience using Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems is highly desirable and may be required depending upon assignment.

• May be required to work unusual hours and weekends in the performance of their duties and  be available on an “on call” basis.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The Executive Assistant/Deputy District Clerk will be required to attend evening Board/Committee meetings. Meetings may be held in Los Altos or offsite.  This position is part of the General Manager’s office at Midpen’s office in Los Altos, California. Midpen offers a hybrid office/telecommute work environment for this position.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Any combination of training and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be: 

• Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth (12th) grade supplemented by two (2) years of college-level coursework in business or secretarial science and
• Three (3) years of responsible secretarial experience involving assisting executive management or a high-level officials with administrative duties.

The City of San José Information Technology Department seeks an experienced City Information Security Officer (CISO) to lead cybersecurity Citywide initiatives.
 
The CISO will direct the Cybersecurity Office as the City’s principal executive leader for information and systems security. In partnership with the Chief Information Officer (CIO), they will manage risk identification, protection and compliance, threat detection, incident response (IR), and recovery services for all City departments to ensure business resilience.
 
The City’s CISO must be able to apply expertise in security strategy, cybersecurity frameworks, managing staff and vendor services, leading incident management, and optimizing resources to achieve desired security outcomes.
 
Key responsibilities include but not limited to:

• Lead and mentor the Cybersecurity team, offering expertise and support to foster growth and a collaborative environment. 
• Collaborate with business units and solution providers to provide optimal security measures and achieve a balance between sustaining business operations and achieving security compliance.
• Coordinate with stakeholders within the City and partners/vendors outside of the City to ensure information and systems meet the City’s standards for threat identification, protection, and risk detection.
• Develop, operationalize, and enhance the City’s cybersecurity strategic plan, programs, policies, and architecture, including vulnerability, risk, and threat management programs through remediation.
• Conduct training programs to educate City personnel on relevant security best practices, foster diligence, and ensure compliance.
• Provide expert security guidance to City departments and officials in service planning, procurements, contract negotiations, vendor management, and project management.
• Provide expert guidance on regulations and standards (FISMA, FedRAMP, CJIS, PCI-DSS, HIPAA, etc.) the City must meet in providing municipal services, as well as security frameworks (NIST, ISO, IEEE, etc.) to shape City operations.
• Oversee and lead incident management/response processes in coordination with City departments to respond and recover from incidents.
• Resolve security-related audits in partnership with City staff.
• Ensure comprehensive security strategies align with resilience plans and emergency management exercises.
• Oversee vendor relationships and manage the City’s procurement and utilization of cybersecurity products and services across departments.
• Lead the annual Cybersecurity Assessment of the City’s technology infrastructure.
• Provide strategic and operational leadership to address cybersecurity in the City’s emerging Internet-of-Things, smart communities, privacy, and equity through data initiatives. 
• Collaborate with the Digital Privacy Officer to address privacy challenges emerging from new technologies, including AI. 
• Implement governance policies to ensure responsible AI usage across the organization, aligning with ethical standards and risk management protocols. 
• Support the GovAI Coalition’s initiatives to promote responsible and safe use of AI in government.

About the Department

The mission of the San Jose Police Department is to create safe places to live, work and learn through community partnerships. 

Position Duties

 

The City of San Jose is recruiting for a part-time School Crossing Guards in the Police Department during the normal school year.  Work involves providing for the safe conduct of elementary and junior high school children across heavily traveled streets and reporting problems requiring possible police action. Positions may involve substituting at different corners or a regular location assignment.  In general, these assignments are a split shift with approximately ten (10) hours per week.  School Crossing Guards are required to work outside regardless of weather conditions and must be able to provide a uniform as specified by the Police Department.   Work includes outside duties and exposure to weather.  Work may include the physical ability to sit, stand, walk quickly, step up/down from the curb, reach, push and/or pull, twist and or rotate, bend, lift and carry up to 10 pounds, use hands hold and use a stop sign the entire shift, use other hand to stop traffic and use a whistle at the same.

ABOUT THE POSITION

The City of Gilroy is recruiting for a full-time Accounting Assistant I in the Finance Department. This position will primarily be assigned to the Utility Billing/Information Desk area, providing excellent customer service to internal and external customers, and performing cashiering and accounting-related work. THE POSITION

To perform a variety of tasks in the maintenance of City-owned buildings, equipment and facilities.  The purpose of the recruitment is to fill a current vacancy at the Woodland Community & Senior Center (primary duties focus on event setups and janitorial duties/oversight), as well as establish an eligibility list for future vacancies.

 

IDEAL CANDIDATE

Ideal Candidate will be able to troubleshoot a wide variety of building systems and think outside the box to find solutions This position requires a “team player” with good interpersonal, time management, problem solving, customer service and communication skills.  Ideal Candidate will have a strong work ethic, be self-motivated and demonstrate a willingness to learn and grow into the position. Candidate must be able to follow directions and display good judgment, as well as be organized, flexible, approachable, resourceful and a positive team contributor and work independently.  Project management skills and proficiency working in a Maintenance Management System is highly desirable.  Successful candidates may also have to respond to after-hours emergencies on short notice.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Maintain and repair City buildings, equipment and facilities by performing a variety of semi-skilled carpentry, plumbing, painting, heating/air conditioning, mechanical repair and electrical work as necessary.  Inspect City buildings to locate conditions indicating the need for repairs and maintenance; assist in establishing and implementing preventative maintenance programs.  Operate and maintain a variety of heavy tools and equipment, including small power and hand tools.  Work cooperatively with others.  Regular and consistent attendance. 

 

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS

Remodel and repair a variety of building components such as counters, tables, desks, bookshelves, cabinets, partitions, walls, windows and doors; boilers, water pumps, exhaust fans, compressors, and other water and sewage system plumbing as required.  Perform electrical work such as wiring and rewiring; replace switches, ballast and receptacles as required.  Prepare simple activity and related reports; maintain inventory and work records as required.  Requisition supplies and materials.  Perform general janitorial duties as needed.  Perform other facility maintenance duties as assigned.

Education:  High School Diploma or equivalent.

 

Experience:

Facility Maintenance Worker I:  Six (6) months of work experience in carpentry, electrical and maintenance work is desirable.

 

Facility Maintenance Worker II:  One (1) year of experience performing duties comparable to those of a Facility Maintenance Worker I.

 

License and Certificate:   Required upon hire, possession of a valid California Driver’s License.

CITY OF SARATOGA, CITY MANAGER DEPARTMENT • INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITY

This internship is offered as part of a Regional Internship Partnership designed to introduce current students and recent college graduates to local municipal government. The City of Saratoga participates in this program with the goal of connecting a diverse student population to public sector work, providing meaningful hands-on experience that supports both personal and professional growth.

Position Description

The City Manager Department has one part-time, paid summer internship opportunity (up to 20 hours per week). This is a single position that provides exposure across multiple functions within the department, giving the selected intern broad exposure to municipal operations rather than a narrow focus on one specialty. The internship runs for up to 12 weeks, and the start and end dates can be arranged around the selected candidate’s college summer break schedule.

The workload will balance supporting daily municipal operations with contributing to special projects. The intern will receive assignments and work direction from staff within the department.  

Administrative Analyst. The intern will support the planning and delivery of community programs such as the Youth in Government program and City-led events. Duties include scheduling, vendor coordination, on-site event assistance, research on municipal best practices, and data tracking.

City Clerk. The intern will assist with the preparation and coordination of City Council and commission meetings, including agenda compilation, minutes, and document management. Responsibilities also include supporting public records requests and ensuring compliance with open meeting laws and transparency requirements.

Public Affairs and Community Engagement Officer. The intern will help draft newsletters, website content, and social media posts, and will support event promotion, marketing materials, and community outreach campaigns. Additional work may include contributing to the annual State of the City report and video content produced with City Council.
