The City is currently accepting applications to fill two positions in the Landscape Division at the City’s Municipal Service Center in the Newbury Park area of Thousand Oaks.
 

Primary responsibilities:

• Perform skilled work in the pruning, care, and maintenance of trees and grounds maintenance, including chemical application duties
• Perform heavy manual labor in the care and maintenance of trees and in performing grounds maintenance
• Install, repair, and program irrigation systems and controllers
• Perform graffiti removal
• Perform routine and emergency work from an aerial lift bucket
• Assist in overseeing the work of contractors
• Assist with encampment and abandoned property clean-up efforts (e.g. supporting police personnel in non-enforcement and enforcement situations, or contracted services by posting, documenting, collecting, storing and/or disposing of private property or debris)

Note: Work Schedule – 4/40 (Monday – Thursday, 6:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.). Position involves performing after-hours emergency work on an “as needed” basis and on-call duties on a rotating basis.

The City of Brisbane is currently recruiting for non-sworn Police Officer Trainee candidates. This is for individuals that have no prior law enforcement experience and have not received POST certified police academy training. Trainees are paid while attending a POST-certified Police Academy. About the Position

The City of San Carlos is seeking a full-time Associate Engineer in our Public Works Department. This position performs professional and technical civil engineering work in support of the City’s public works and private development projects. Responsibilities will range from simpler projects and to more complex ones. Employees in this job class provide general engineering support and direction to a variety of public and private projects. Projects worked on may include civil works projects including: roads, drainage, grading, buildings, water and wastewater pipelines and treatment facilities, tanks, generators, parks and landscaping, bike paths, environmental mitigation and other related subjects.

The Associate Engineer is distinguished from the Assistant Engineer by the level of experience in the field of municipal engineering and the level of job knowledge.  This is a more specialized class wherein incumbents are charged with performing a wide variety of complex engineering assignments and having a much broader range of knowledge, skills and abilities.

Employees in this classification work under general supervision of the Principal Engineer. Employees in the Engineer positions are not directly responsible for the supervision and evaluation of other engineering staff; however, they may provide supervision of work product to other engineers, inspectors, technicians or intern staff.

Essential Duties

• Plans, directs, participates and effectively completes moderately complex projects. This technical work involves engineering, surveying, construction or other activities related to the civil engineering profession.
• Manages assigned projects, serving as the project lead and ensuring that all aspects of the project are addressed and completed professionally.
• Supervises the work products of project team members, including technicians or intern staff.
• Administers consultant contracts and oversees consultants for services such as design, construction management, construction inspection, soil testing, biological studies, and other related tasks.
• Reviews, prepares construction drawings and specifications for a variety of City public works projects using AutoCAD and related civil design software to process projects through the City.
• Reviews and evaluates preliminary and final plans and specifications for private development.
• Prepares Requests for Proposals for support work such as surveying or biological studies.
• inspects and evaluates ongoing public works and development projects to ensure compliance with plans and specifications and regulatory agency requirements.
• Conducts surveys, and/or assists survey personnel in obtaining field data and conducts a variety of field construction tests for compliance purposes.
• Verifies and maintains appropriate records and files; prepares comprehensive technical reports and agenda reports related to assignments. Presents reports as needed.
• Represents the Public Works Department at various meetings.
• Performs a variety of computer and tracking support functions.
• Interacts with the public at the public counter answering questions and issuing permits for construction in the City’s right of way.
• Prepares Requests for Qualifications/Proposals (RFQ/Ps) for design, construction management and support services as needed.
• Provides preliminary and final review of development proposals such as subdivisions maps, parcel maps and subdivision improvements.
• Reviews private development submittals for compliance with State and local regulations and specifications, working with project proponents to make necessary corrections.
• Effectively plans, organizes, schedules and implements projects.
• Perform studies, research files, records, plans, and maps.
• Gathers, assembles, analyzes and interprets field data, and prepares reports.
• Coordinates with other departments as needed to complete assignments.
• Provides planning, specification, calculation and cost estimating review of others’ work.
• Reviews construction of projects and assists in maintaining construction documents.
• Reviews and evaluates development plans, maps, and related documents for conformance to City, State, and Federal codes. Reviews calculations and issues permits.
• Gathers traffic data, maintains traffic records, conducts traffic studies, and prepares traffic reports.
• Provides assistance to other City employees regarding engineering related matters.
• Administers consultant contracts for moderately complex projects or service contracts, effectively monitoring costs and deadlines.
• Manages assigned projects by acting as lead person on the project, ensuring that all aspects of the project are addressed and the project is completed in a professional manner.
• Assists in preparing and managing budgets for operation and capital improvement programs.
• Coordinates work with regulatory agencies and private entities, completing public relations work as needed or assigned.
• Prepare reports and delivers presentations to City and private groups as assigned.
• Applies for and obtains permits from local, state and federal agencies.
• Applies for and administers grants.

What You’ll Do

The Public Works Maintenance Leadworker performs skilled work in the construction, maintenance, and repair of sewer infrastructure, road ways, sidewalks, and storm conveyance system. The Leadworker assigns and participates in the work of maintenance crews, operates power driven equipment, and performs related work as required.   This position is responsible for lead supervision of a sewer, street, storm or traffic safety maintenance field crew. The City of Thousand Oaks is seeking a Plant & Equipment Mechanic to become an integral part of our team at the Hill Canyon Treatment Plant (HCTP). In this role, you'll perform a variety of challenging and rewarding tasks, including installing, maintaining, and repairing mechanical and electrical equipment critical to the plant’s operations. Primary Responsibilities

• Identifies and performs a variety of maintenance, troubleshooting, repairs, installations, and modifications on wastewater treatment plant mechanical equipment and facilities, including but not limited to:
  • Mechanical grinders, pumps, valves, engines, blowers, motorized valves actuators, lab equipment, air compressors, etc.
  • Industrial grade machinery, boilers, digester equipment, bulk chemical storage and delivery systems, hydraulic and pneumatic systems and devices.
  • Fabricates and or modifies equipment mounts, brackets, supports, utilizing welding, drilling, milling, tapping, etc. 

• Coordinates activities with operations personnel and contractors to ensure efficient and streamlined operations

This position may be filled as Combination Building Inspector I ($36.0157 - $48.2645 per hour) or Combination Building Inspector II ($39.7935 - $53.3271 per hour), depending on candidate experience and qualifications.  

The Combination Building Inspector I/II plays a crucial role in protecting public health, safety, and welfare by reviewing construction projects to ensure compliance with minimum standards. Their inspections cover not only the structural stability of buildings but also key safety aspects such as fire protection, life-safety features, energy efficiency, and the proper functioning of plumbing, mechanical, and electrical systems. 

The Combination Building Inspector must possess excellent customer service and communication skills, be self-motivated, exercise discretion and independent judgment, and project a very professional image through in-person, phone, and e-mail interactions at all times. Additionally, this position will plan check in specialized areas such as plumbing, mechanical and electrical.  

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES 

• Conducts inspection work to enforce building, fire and life safety, mechanical, plumbing, electrical, energy, accessibility, and other related codes and regulations that govern the construction, alteration, repair, and use of buildings and structures.  

• Reads and interprets plans and specifications for inspection on commercial, industrial and residential buildings. Performs pre-construction inspections on complex permits to get familiarized with the project milestones and establish communication channels with the contractor and the design team. 

• Participates in the development of policies and procedures; recommends programs and projects to the inspector supervisor and the inspection team.  

• Ensures a high-performance, customer service-oriented work environment that supports the department and City’s mission, objectives, and values. 

• Confers and coordinates with, and provides information and assistance to owners, architects, engineers, contractors, builders, and the general public in the field and office; explains and interprets applicable codes, ordinances, and zoning regulations.
