Job Description:  

The Administrative Services Department has a rewarding full-time, 40 hours per week, non-benefited summer internship opportunity to begin in June of 2026. The main function of the job is to perform municipal research and analytical work on an entry level professional basis.

 

The workload will be a balance of assisting in daily municipal operations and special projects. Duties may include, but are not limited to town-wide capital inventory, risk management, citizens’ requests, record management, benchmarking, policy analysis and research. The position will serve as a regular staff member, and will receive assignments and work direction from the Administrative Services Director. The primary goal of the internship program is to provide a recent graduate an opportunity to apply their academic training in a municipal government setting. This paid internship provides hands-on experience in the daily operations of municipal government on all levels, thus enhancing the intern’s skills and résumé for a future profession in government.

Job Description:

The Town of Los Altos Hills is recruiting a college intern to work in the Community Development Department. The intern will split time between the planning and building divisions of CDD. The role for planning will include support of both short range and long range planning.  Interns working on long range planning will work primarily as a research aide for the Town’s 2023-2031 certified Housing Element implementation.  For short range planning and the building division support interns will be focused on day to day permit activities, but may also work on other more general department duties as needed.

Class Characteristics

ABOUT THE POSITION:

The Seasonal Maintenance Worker position performs a variety of entry-level and unskilled labor, maintenance and repair tasks in various public works operations, such as park maintenance, landscape maintenance, creek and catch basin maintenance, street maintenance, and janitorial and facility maintenance.  Weekend availability is at times required for picnic area prep, general park clean-up, etc.

Shift coverage is needed on daytime and overnight shifts. This position is only open to candidates with two or more years of experience as a Public Safety Dispatcher in California in the previous five (5) years.

 

Per Diem Communications Officer

GENERAL PURPOSE

Under general supervision, receives and transmits routine and emergency telephone and radio traffic;

dispatches and coordinates police, fire, public works and other municipal staff and equipment via multi-frequency two-way radio; maintains and processes a variety of communications reports, records, and radio logs; and does related work as required.

 

CLASS CHARACTERISTICS

Communications Officer II

This classification has primary responsibility for staffing the Town’s public safety dispatch communication center. Under most circumstances, the training and experience for this position would occur by having prior experience working for another police department as a Communications Officer for a period of at least two years.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Communications Officer II typically performs, but is not limited to, the duties noted below on a regular basis:

• Receives and handles incoming telephone and voice radio calls for police, fire, ambulance, and public works

• Secures and records information as to exact locations and circumstances using radio or other equipment to dispatch appropriate units to the emergency scene.

• Maintains radio contact with local units on assignment and directs and coordinates with staff from other agencies on a mutual-aid basis, as needed.

Under the direction of the Facilities & Equipment Superintendent, this position performs all types of concrete work at District facilities as required.  May perform other duties as assigned within the Streets and Grounds Department, thus, will include working with the Laborers and Bridge Carpenter.

The main role for this position of Cybersecurity Analyst I/II will focus on Cybersecurity. The candidate that fills the role will assist in defining enterprise cybersecurity policies, standards, guidelines, and procedures to ensure a robust and current cybersecurity program. This position requires a strong understanding of cybersecurity concepts, as well as the ability to work in a dynamic, public service-oriented environment. Other duties would include but not limited to assisting Network Administrators with items relating to the Network Administrator position.

 

Cybersecurity Analyst II: Under limited supervision, provides advanced level work, including the design, implementation, evaluation, and daily management of security systems and solutions; and performs duties related to threat detection and prevention, education, risk assessment, compliance, governance, business recovery, forensics, and incident response. This position requires a strong understanding of cybersecurity concepts, as well as the ability to work in a dynamic, public service-oriented environment. Other duties would include but not limited to aiding other Network Administrators with items relating to the Network Administrator position. Positions in this class require frequent use of a high degree of independent judgment and interpretative ability.

 

Positions in the Cybersecurity Analyst II classification are flexibly staffed and normally filled from advancement from the Cybersecurity Analyst I class, or when filled from the outside, require specific cybersecurity technology experience. Appointment to this class requires the employee to be performing substantially the full range of Cybersecurity Analyst II duties and to meet the qualifications for the class. The class requires the ability to work independently exercising judgment and initiative and a greater knowledge of the City’s security systems and solutions.

 

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

 

Architects, implements, monitors, maintains, and troubleshoots various security systems that protect the City’s networks, IT/OT systems (including SCADA), applications and critical infrastructure; designs, organizes, modifies, installs, secures and supports security infrastructure; and provides technical support for network and security issues associated with enterprise applications; analyzes both raw and processed security alerts, logs and event data to identify potential security incidents, threats, mitigations, and vulnerabilities. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

 

Knowledge of:  Network security, threat detection, and incident response; common cyberattack methods such as phishing, ransomware, and malware; security tools like firewalls, intrusion detection systems (IDS), and encryption technologies; government regulations, data protection laws, and compliance frameworks (e.g., PCI-DSS, CJIS, NIST, NERC CIP, ISO 27000, etc.) is essential, as is the ability disaster recovery planning and maintaining cybersecurity policies tailored to local government infrastructure is critical for ensuring the safety of sensitive public data and services.

Experience:

 

Cybersecurity Analyst I: A minimum of 2-3 years of experience in cybersecurity or information security roles, preferably within government or public sector organizations.

Education:

Position Summary

 

Under the general direction of the Fleet and Facilities Manager, this position is responsible for planning, assigning, supervising, training, and assisting mechanics in the routine preventive maintenance, inspection, diagnosis, and repair of structural, mechanical, and electrical systems at Bus Transit facilities. This includes overseeing shop equipment, automated fueling systems, revenue fare collection equipment, passenger amenities, and signage.

The Chief Mechanic - Building Maintenance is a working position that combines the duties of the Mechanic - Building Maintenance classification with skilled supervisory responsibilities. These include supervising work crews, scheduling tasks, managing projects, and providing training and mentorship to subordinate employees. Additionally, the position is accountable for generating detailed written and electronic reports on facility and equipment conditions, documenting maintenance and repairs performed, and outlining ongoing maintenance needs.
