The Senior Engineer, under the general direction of the Division Manager, leads and manages the New Development Review Team, overseeing the review and delivery of complex private development projects. This role ensures that development projects align with the City of San José’s and department’s transportation priorities, multimodal policies, and regulatory requirements.

The position provides technical leadership across the development review process and serves as a key liaison with internal partners, external stakeholders, and the public. As a unit lead, the Senior Engineer supervises staff, manages workload, and supports the consistent, high-quality implementation of City transportation policies and standards.

 

 

Position Duties

• Lead the review and approval of complex private development applications and public improvement plans, ensuring consistency with City standards, General Plan goals, and Complete Streets policies.
• Conduct and oversee technical review of roadway design, traffic signal modifications, streetscape improvements, and bicycle and pedestrian facilities.
• Review technical reports, traffic studies, and memorandums to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal laws, regulations, and policies.
• Manage and advance complex and high-profile development projects like Pleasant Hills Golf Course and LS Power, ensuring adherence to aggressive schedules and key milestones.
• Coordinate closely with internal partners, including Public Works (DPW) and Planning, Building, and Code Enforcement (PBCE), on development intake, design, and approval processes.
• Serve as a liaison across DOT sections and with external stakeholders, including developers, Council offices, community groups, and public agencies.
• Represent the Department at community meetings, Director’s Hearings, and Planning Commission meetings; present recommendations and address transportation-related concerns.
• Synthesize and coordinate input across departments to support timely decision-making and high-quality project outcomes.
• Ensure compliance with the City’s General Plan, multimodal policies, Complete Streets standards, and transportation design guidelines.
• Develop and review roadway design parameters and planlines for development projects; assign and monitor deadlines for in-house conceptual design tasks.
• Plan, implement, and monitor program activities, including workload distribution, performance metrics, and continuous process improvements.
• Contribute to the development and refinement of Citywide transportation design guidelines and standards.

Maintenance Worker 2 - Street Maintenance Division

Salary: $37.60 - $47.99 Hourly

This position plays a key role in supporting the upkeep of the City's streets and traffic safety-related infrastructure. We are seeking dependable, detail-oriented individuals with strong customer service skills to join our team.

 

Responsibilities include performing a range of semi-skilled and manual labor tasks, such as repairing and maintaining traffic signs, applying roadway striping, installing pavement markings, and removing graffiti. These positions also perform traffic control, completing asphalt and minor concrete repairs, and carrying out other right-of-way maintenance duties as needed.

The Position:

The Senior Planner is the advanced journey level classification in the professional Planner series. An incumbent in this classification is responsible for performing complex planning duties in the administration of land use regulations, the City's General Plan, Housing Element, environmental review, and design review.  The Senior Planner is distinguished from the Associate Planner classification as they perform lead, supervisory responsibilities.

 

This Senior Planner position will be primarily assigned to advanced or long-range planning implementing the City’s Housing Element, including preparing Annual Progress Reports, monitoring Regional Housing Needs Allocations, developing, implementing, and monitoring policies, data analysis & reporting, and community engagement activities.

 

The ideal candidate is expected to be familiar with state planning and housing laws, including state density bonus requirements, and Housing Element requirements. They should be able to demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of the laws and the local implementing ordinances to ensure the City is in compliance. This position will also play a key role in advancing housing-related initiatives, many of which are part of the Housing Element programs.

 

The ideal candidate will be a motivated self-starter able to work independently, and with a team. They will be able to communicate effectively with supervisors, colleagues, consultants, decision-makers, and the public. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Minimum Education Requirements:

A Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in Urban and Regional Planning, Environmental Studies, Architecture, or closely related field.

 

Minimum Experience Requirements:

Four (4) years of professional municipal or regional planning experience.

 

Acceptable Substitution:

• Two (2) years professional planning experience as an Associate Planner with the City of Santa Clara may be substituted for the required experience.

 

• A Master's Degree from an accredited college or university in City Planning or closely related field may be substituted for one year of the required experience.

 

Desirable Qualifications:

• Computer proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), permit tracking software, such as Accela.

 

• Depending on position assignment, experience in a particular specialty such as current planning, advanced or long-range planning, California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA), and/or Geographic Information Systems (GIS) mapping, or database development.

 

• Experience developing and delivering public presentations.

 

• Planning experience in a lead or supervisory capacity.

 

• Possession of a certification from the American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP).

 

Other Requirements: 

• Will be expected to work evenings and weekends as required.

 

• Must be able to perform all of the essential functions of the job assignment.

The San Rafael Public Library is hiring Teen Interns (2 Positions Available) for the Summer Lunch at the Library Program.  This important initiative helps ensure that youth in the City of San Rafael have access to free, healthy lunches throughout the summer.  As a Lunch at the Library Intern, you will support a variety of program activities while working under the direction of library staff, gaining valuable experience and contributing to your community.  All City of San Rafael teens age 16-18 are encouraged to apply.  NO PREVIOUS WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIRED!

 

IDEAL CANDIDATE:

The Teen Intern is an energetic and dependable individual who enjoys engaging with diverse children an families (ages 0-12) and teens (ages 12-18).  The Teen Intern will arrive on time with a positive attitude, is able to manage multiple tasks efficiently, communicate well with library staff and community members, and is open to learning new skills.  They are willing to begin and end each workday at the library, participate in off-site outreach, assist in preparing and breaking down materials for each shift, and help track program statistics.  Above all, they foster a welcoming and inclusive environment, ensuring all community members feel accepted at the library.

This position performs the following essential job duties (including but not limited to):

• Attend orientations and trainings.
• Set up pop-up outreach site, track book distribution, and lead interactive off-site program.
• Promote the library's Summer Reading Challenge.
• Lead activities with children and parents.
• Lunch at the Library is a joint partnership between the library and a federally funded program.  Teen interns will be expected to learn and adhere to all Federal guidelines, as well as San Rafael Public Library policies and procedures.

Work Schedule/Hours:

• June 15, 2026 to August 7, 2026
• Required Schedule:  Monday thru Friday - 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
• The total time commitment is 10 hours of required training and 60 hours of regularly scheduled shifts over 7 weeks.
• Interns must be able to complete all 10 hours of training and 60 hours to be considered for the internship opportunity.

About the Department

The mission of the San Jose Police Department is to create safe places to live, work and learn through community partnerships. 

Position Duties

 

The City of San Jose is recruiting for a part-time School Crossing Guards in the Police Department during the normal school year.  Work involves providing for the safe conduct of elementary and junior high school children across heavily traveled streets and reporting problems requiring possible police action. Positions may involve substituting at different corners or a regular location assignment.  In general, these assignments are a split shift with approximately ten (10) hours per week.  School Crossing Guards are required to work outside regardless of weather conditions and must be able to provide a uniform as specified by the Police Department.   Work includes outside duties and exposure to weather.  Work may include the physical ability to sit, stand, walk quickly, step up/down from the curb, reach, push and/or pull, twist and or rotate, bend, lift and carry up to 10 pounds, use hands hold and use a stop sign the entire shift, use other hand to stop traffic and use a whistle at the same.
