This position is part of the Food Waste Reduction team, which works to reduce food loss and waste while supporting soil health, local economies, and access to nutritious food.

The Program Manager I supports program implementation, partnerships, and technical assistance related to food waste prevention and edible food recovery. A Dispatcher I is a civilian employee of the Police Department who performs a variety of tasks in the Department’s Support Services Division. The Dispatcher I receives incoming calls for police assistance and response; acts as a primary Dispatcher when appropriate; performs a variety of general support duties related to police communications; completes a wide variety of general clerical duties.

Examples of Duties:

The Dispatcher I duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

Answer emergency and non-emergency police related phone calls, help prioritize requests for service based upon available resources, receive radio requests and handle accordingly, type, process and file a wide variety of reports and materials including memos, letters, complaints, declarations, warrants, citations, crime and traffic reports.  Assists Department personnel and the public in person and by phone performing record checks, collecting fees and mailing requested reports to outside agencies in accordance with established regulations.   A Dispatcher I may be assigned to work various hours, shifts, holidays, weekends and overtime.

Typical Qualifications:

A combination of education and work experience including 2-3 years of general office work involving typing of varied materials, public contact, general filing and basic record keeping; type at least 40 wpm net.  Knowledge of business English, spelling; modern office practices and procedures; record keeping. Ability to learn assigned clerical tasks readily and to adhere to prescribed routine; write English legibly; establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and the general public; type and learn the operation of other standard office equipment; a willingness to work varying shifts; and to learn radio dispatching skills.

The Challenge

As a Police Officer your duties will typically include patrolling assigned areas; interacting with the public; conducting criminal investigations; enforcing laws; investigating collisions; preserving the peace and writing reports. Manage and implement the Town’s Communications and Economic Development programs, and serve as the Town’s designated Public Information Officer (PIO).

The Communications program and the role of the PIO is to manage a variety of materials, activities, and public relations strategies to enhance the Town’s communication with Danville residents, businesses, and customers. Incumbent will maintain a relevant and fluent print and digital outreach program, provide the media with timely and accurate information in matters of public interest, and serve as a key member of large Town project teams to lead local and regional communications.

The purpose of the Economic Development program is to further economic growth and development within the Town by assisting the Town Council and Town Manager in evaluating policy areas impeding business growth, focusing on opportunities to promote the local businesses, and engage business owners and local tourism organizations to promote the Town as a destination. The program is also responsible for working with organizers to support and facilitate Town-wide community events.

Receives direction from the Town Manager or Assistant Town Manager. General supervision is exercised over the staff within the Communications, Economic Development and Community Events functions. May exercise general supervision over consultants as needed.

Essential duties may include, but are not limited to the following:

General

• Serve as lead staff person for preparation of the annual Community Outreach, Community Events, and Economic Development program budgets as part of the annual operating budget.
• Serve as a key member of the Town’s management team.

Communications

• Develop and implement the Town’s community outreach strategy, including facilitating the Communications Liaison Team.

• Interface between the Town and business community on special events that impact downtown.
• Oversee the evaluation of requests for annual business promotion funding and make recommendations to the Town Council as part of the annual financial plan cycle.
• Function as liaison/facilitator between the Town Manager’s office and Planning Division on certain downtown planning applications and code enforcement concerns.
• Communicate and coordinate with the Town Council and appropriate Commissions on economic development programs and/or projects.

When assigned to Public Works, the Associate Civil Engineer will contribute to exciting new projects across the City. Upcoming developments include large mix-used buildings in downtown Berkeley as well as UC Berkeley projects that will require review for impacts to public right-of-way. Other assignments include Construction Management and Inspection, Buildings/Facilities, and Streets. 

When assigned to the Parks, Recreation & Waterfront Department, the Associate Civil Engineer functions as a project leader for Capital Projects with an emphasis on engineering design. Capital improvement teams are responsible for coordinating with stakeholders and managing contracts to get projects ready for bidding and construction. 

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

A typical way of gaining the knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position is equivalent to graduation from a four year college or university with major coursework in civil engineering and three (3) years of professional engineering experience in design and construction work at a level equivalent to the Assistant Civil Engineer class.

Progressively responsible related experience may be substituted for the college coursework on a year-for-year basis.

DEFINITION

Responsible for the day-to-day responsibilities related to municipal traffic operations within the Town of Danville. ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES

Essential duties may include, but are not limited to the following:

• Conduct technical and administrative work in the functional areas of traffic operations, Downtown area, residential parking, and transportation planning and design.
• Manage the Town’s traffic signal and traffic control devices network in conjunction with the Transportation Manager.
• Serve as the public interface for matters related to traffic safety and circulation; develop and implement solutions with creative and professional use of acceptable traffic engineering standards. 
• Prepare traffic studies related to local traffic circulation and review traffic studies generated through the development review process, as directed.
• Review civil and public improvements plans for transportation related infrastructure.
• Review collision reports and prepare and maintain collision diagrams.
• Conduct and maintain Traffic and Engineering Surveys.
• Review and comment on traffic signal plans and assist with oversight of traffic signal construction and modifications, as directed.
• Work in collaboration with traffic signal maintenance personnel to manage and troubleshoot issues related to traffic signal operations/equipment and electronic traffic control devices.
• Monitor traffic signal network operations through the Town’s centralized traffic signal monitoring system.
• Serve as project manager for transportation-related Capital Improvement Projects and studies, as directed.
• Conduct special research projects, including compiling and analyzing information; develop recommendations on courses of action; deliver concise, effective presentations to the Town Council, Town Commissions and members of the public.
• Coordinate with Police Department personnel to respond to public concerns related to traffic safety and circulation and parking.
• Provide staff support to other departments, boards, and commissions as directed.
• Coordinate with regional transportation agencies on transportation projects and funding opportunities, as directed.
• Maintain current program content on Town websites.
• Prepare and manage professional services contracts.

QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge of:

• Fundamentals of traffic engineering inclusive of multi-modal transportation applications and practices.
• Signs and pavement markings standards; intersection and roadway capacity practices; intersection design; residential street design and traffic control.
• Transportation impact study elements and preparation processes; traffic signal operations; on‑ and off‑street parking standards; traffic control devices; and pavement management.
• GIS, AutoCAD, Bluebeam, Microsoft Office and general software applications.
• Traffic engineering-related software such as Synchro/SimTraffic, HCS, and Crossroads is preferred.

Ability to:

• Interpret plans and specifications; some GIS knowledge.
• Research and stay current on traffic engineering and transportation planning regulations, practices and technology.
• Prepare clear and concise written reports and correspondence, deliver presentations before the Town Council and members of the public, and facilitate meetings.

• Prepare open space, athletic fields or recreational spaces for public use
• Assist with basic irrigation and sprinkler maintenance
• Follow safety procedures and maintain a clean and organized work environment

Minimum Qualifications:

Must be at least 18 years old

Education and Experience:

Graduation from high school or equivalent; maintenance/construction or landscape experience preferred.

Certificates and Licenses:

• Valid California Driver License with satisfactory driving record
• Satisfactory completion of a pre-employment functional capacity examination
• Department of Justice fingerprint clearance

Language Ability:
Ability to read and comprehend basic instructions, short correspondence and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to park visitors and to other employees.

Math Ability:
Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10s and 100s. Ability to perform these operations using units of money and weight measurement, volume and distance.

Reasoning Ability:
Ability to use common-sense understanding to carry out instructions provided in written, oral or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to outside weather conditions including rain, sun and extreme heat for extended periods. The employee is frequently exposed to moving equipment and mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places, toxic or caustic chemicals, plants and pesticides. The noise level in the environment is loud.
