The City of Simi Valley is seeking a team‑oriented self‑starter to join our Public Works Sanitation Division as a Wastewater Plant Operator I, II, or III (depending on experience).

Plant Operators perform a variety of skilled technical and semi‑skilled duties in the operation and maintenance of the City’s wastewater treatment plant, including:

• Operating and maintaining plant equipment

• Performing adjustments and repairs

• Collecting and documenting samples for laboratory testing

• Supporting related duties as assigned

  • Plant Operator I - $31.73 - $40.55 per hour
  • Plant Operator II - $34.66 - $44.24 per hour
  • Plant Operator III - $38.15 - $48.66 per hour

                               MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

Education: 

• Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade supplemented by specialized training in water or wastewater treatment plant operations

Experience: 

• Experience commensurate with each grade level of certification as required by the State of California, which includes some coursework in the area of assignment.

License/Certificates: 

• Wastewater: Possession of a Grade I, II, or III Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator certificate issued by the California State Water Resources Control Board.
• All Positions: Possession of a valid Class C California driver's license. Positions in Wastewater require a Class B driver's license within 12 months of employment.
• Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate, valid C.P.R. Certificate.

                                  IDEAL CANDIDATE:

The ideal candidate will bring:

• Practical knowledge of activated sludge wastewater treatment, BNR, and solids handling processes.

• Technical expertise in treatment processes, safety practices, and tools used in wastewater facilities.

• The California Commission on Peace Officers Standards and Training (POST) will conduct an evaluation of all out-of-state training.

ABOUT THE POSITION

PART-TIME LIBRARIAN I/LIBRARY ASSISTANT I

The Mill Valley Public Library is looking for a part-time librarian who is passionate about public service, shows initiative, and has a strong work ethic to work the adult reference desk. This is a great opportunity to get experience in reference work and assisting patrons with their needs. You will work in a very fast-paced, collaborative environment.  

ESTIMATED NUMBER OF HOURS:

Will work at least one shift per week with additional sub hours available. Applicant must be able to work Saturday (9:15am - 5:15pm) and/or Sunday (11:30am - 5pm) and one weeknight until 8pm. 

Salary: $24.77 - $41.04/hour depending on experience and education.

ABOUT THE POSITION:

Staffing the Adult Reference Desk is the primary responsibility of this position. A knowledge of literature or the desire to read widely is essential in making book recommendations and understanding types of computers and assisting with technology troubleshooting is crucial. The Mill Valley Library is fast-paced and innovative; the person in this position needs to learn new skills quickly, adapt easily to change, be detail-oriented, and patron focused. Many part-time staff are cross trained to work in other Library departments as needed.

TYPICAL DUTIES:

• Provide reference services including readers’ advisory. 
• Provide excellent customer service to all patrons with consistency and in line with library policies.
• Assist patrons troubleshooting technological issues on both library computers and personal devices.
• Help with programming as needed.
• Additional duties based on interests and demonstrated quality of work.

Description 

Under the general direction from the Recreation Supervisor, the Recreation Specialist – Enrichment is responsible to act as a liaison to the Department’s flourishing enrichment (after school) program and ensure the smooth operation of programming for preschool and elementary aged classes both on and off-site. This includes the elementary-aged afterschool programs Supervised Play at Old Mill Elementary School and Center of Play at the Mill Valley Community Center. This position requires a high level of customer service, attention to detail, marketing prowess, evaluation and oversight of programs, independent contractors, and part-time staff, and the ability to build relationships throughout the community. The Recreation Specialist- Enrichment will assist other staff in the Youth and Teens Division for seasonal programs as needed. 

The ideal candidate will have significant experience working in elementary aged programs, ideally in a fast-paced and dynamic setting. A bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university with major coursework in early childhood education, recreation, or a related field with a minimum of two years of experience in delivering kindergarten, elementary and/or youth programming, etc. is preferred.
