We have exciting internship opportunities available at the City of Millbrae’s Public Works Department Environmental Programs Division.  This is an open-ended internship without a specific term, and is a fully on-site position with a minimum of 16 hours per week commitment (not to exceed 1,000 per fiscal year).

The interns would work on projects, such as assisting with the water conservation programs and reporting, implementation of Millbrae’s 2020 Climate Action Plan measures (i.e. residential energy efficiency and electrification programs and tree subsidy programs), and community engagement support.  Interns would report to the Environmental Programs Manager located at City Hall at 621 Magnolia Avenue.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT:

Work is performed in an office environment in close proximity to other workers.  Incumbent shall be exposed to those conditions normally encountered in a business office environment.  Physical demands require frequent standing, reaching, leaning, twisting, grasping, lifting and sitting for prolonged periods of time.  Must carry moderately heavy boxes up to 50 pounds and/or utilize a dolly.  Incumbent must be able to drive safely to various City sites.  Incumbent must be able to see and hear in the normal range, with or without correction.  Incumbent must have the stamina to work long hours and overtime, if assigned, and be willing to work an irregular schedule, which might include evenings, weekends, holidays, and varying hours.

As the Engineering Division intern, you would be working on various infrastructure projects, such as streets, potable water, sewers, transportation, bridge/structural, permitting, and document management. You will assist the engineers by writing reports or conducting field visits to solve construction issues. You would also report to Senior Engineers located at the Corporation Yard at 400 East Millbrae Avenue and at City Hall.

The Department

The Human Services Department (HSD) delivers and supports services by forging long-term community partnerships; engaging with and building the capacity of the community to do its own problem-solving; and leveraging financial and volunteer resources.

The Position

The Clinical Supervisor will provide clinical and administrative leadership to the Aging and Family Services Division. The mission of the Aging and Family Services Division is to foster a high quality of life for older adults through its Senior Support Services. The Senior Support Services employs a team of caring professionals from diverse backgrounds which include social workers, a public health nurse, counselors, and peers who will work closely with other department staff to provide cohesive wrap-around services for older adults and their families.

Examples of Job Duties

• Develop and maintain systems necessary to support effective and efficient Senior Support Programs. This includes the responsibilities of: supervising a multi-disciplinary team; monitoring contractual and billing procedures; electronic charting requirements; working with other providers and referral organizations; utilization review and methods for integrating the work of the Aging and Family Services Division and Human Services Department.
• Facilitate and support the work of a multi-disciplinary team in providing services to seniors with complex care needs and their caregivers.
• Oversee contract development, billing processes and service deliverables necessary to support the programs. Complete reports required by funding agencies and build strong working relationships with funding parties.

The City of Livermore is currently accepting applications to fill two (2) Mechanic vacancies in the Fleet Services Section of the Maintenance Service Division. A Mechanic performs maintenance and repair services on heavy/light City vehicles/equipment, such as fire trucks, automobiles, construction equipment, street sweepers, lawn mowers, stationary generators; and performs other duties as assigned.

This is the journey level classification in the Mechanic series. The Mechanic performs a range of skilled tasks requiring journey level mechanical ability and aptitude. Work assignments are performed according to established rules and procedures. Independent judgment is required and is supported at regular intervals by supervisory review and direction.

This is a seasonal, part-time position for the Parks & Grounds division.

Under the general supervision of a Public Works Streets Supervisor or Parks & Grounds Supervisor, and direction of a Maintenance II lead, incumbents in this classification assist with the cleanup and maintenance of City parks, streets, and satellite facilities including buildings, equipment, bus stops, parking lots, trails, flora and landscapes; and perform related work as required.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES (illustrative only):

• Emptying garbage cans.
• Picking up litter and other illegal dumping.
• Raking and spreading material including, but not limited to, asphalt, mulch, gravel, and soil.

BASIC EXAMPLE OF DUTIES

Duties may include, but are not limited to the following:

• Perform a variety of unskilled/semi-skilled maintenance or custodial duties involving manual labor of facilities, parks, storm drains, streets, etc.
• Clean and inspect facilities for vandalism or potential hazards.
• Sanitize surfaces, repair minor plumbing problems, diagnose basic sewer issues, replace components on fixtures.
• Maintain area(s) as assigned including parks and public buildings, performing basic repairs, inspections and landscaping.
• Load and unload supplies and materials.

This is a professional level accounting position in the Administrative Services Department.  Under general supervision, incumbents in this class perform the full range of accounting assignments in various areas of governmental, budgeting and accounting for grants.
