What You’ll Be Doing

This paid internship will involve supporting research regarding a variety of activities, and assignments performing duties and responsibilities related to the daily functions of Planning Division as required.

Examples of Duties

Essential job duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following: gather and present data for special assignments, create illustrative graphics, flyers, and informational handouts, work on a variety of projects including housing and general plan updates, assist with current development and long-range planning projects, investigate and propose responses to questions or inquiries from residents, provide planning customer support at the public counter/virtual counter

Time Commitment

Flexible Schedule, up to 30 hours a week. Each intern is able to work a maximum of 1,000 hours per fiscal year.

Compensation

$25.08 – 30.02 per hour

The City of San Bruno Fire Department offers an exciting opportunity to serve as a Fire Cadet. Our one-year Fire Cadet program is an unpaid, volunteer work experience program that offers hands-on training, and introductory knowledge of firefighting skills, fire service tools and equipment. Cadets respond to emergency calls, render Basic Life Support and participate in training, and participate in the daily station duties.

Cadets must be willing to commit to 24-hour shifts, two to four times per month. The cadet program is one year in length. Upon completion, this program meets the manipulative training and experience requirements in obtaining a California State Fire Marshal’s Office Firefighter II certification.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

• State of California EMT or National Registry EMT certification
• Possession of a valid driver’s license and a driving record with minimal violations
• Possession of a Firefighter I Academy certification (or proof of “student in good standing” letter signed by an Academy Instructor if currently enrolled)
• 18 years of age at the time of application

THE POSITION

The City of San Mateo is seeking a Per Diem Human Resources Technician providing a wide variety of technical human resource work in a variety of program areas including benefit administration; recruitment and selection; compensation; human resources information systems database analysis and report writing, and to do related work as required. This position receives general supervision from the HR Director or Senior HR Analysts.

EXAMPLE DUTIES

• Prepare and maintain personnel records.
• Write, edit and prepare digital and print communications materials.
• Assist in the recruitment process by preparing and distributing job announcements, composing, and placing ads, composing and recording announcements for the job hotline, updating and monitoring recruitment information on the City’s web site, screening applications, and answering inquiries from applicants.
• Work with departments in coordinating examination schedules and locations; prepare necessary correspondence for the examinations; notify candidates; enlist the services of examination board members; assemble and mail packets to oral board members.
• Process, update, and maintain invoices and accounts payable.
• Gather and assemble data and prepare routine reports; maintain a variety of records and files.
• Screen calls and visitors, referring inquiries as appropriate, and respond to requests for information regarding general personnel matters.
• Use specialized technical equipment or computer programs.

JOB RELATED SKILLS & ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge of:

• Personnel policies and procedures relating to recruitment, selection, benefit administration, compensation, human resources information systems, and related areas.
• English usage, grammar, spelling and punctuation.
• Modern office procedures, methods and computer equipment.

Ability to:

• Plan, coordinate, and organize work to meet deadlines.
• Compose routine correspondence demonstrating good English skills in spelling, vocabulary, grammar and punctuation.
• Communicate clearly and concisely both orally and in writing.
• Understand, interpret, and apply rules, regulations and memoranda of understanding.
• Establish and maintain cooperative work relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
• Operate standard office machines including personal computer, and calculator.
• Prepare and maintain accurate and complete records and reports.

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION

• Two years of increasingly responsible clerical or account clerical experience, preferably in a human resources environment.
• Equivalent to a high school diploma. Additional specialized training in public administration, human resources management, business administration or a related field is desirable.

DESCRIPTION 

The City of Thousand Oaks Community Development Department currently has two vacancies for an Assistant and Associate Planner. Under general supervision, these positions perform varied and responsible professional planning work; administer and perform work on relatively complex current and advance planning projects; and perform related duties as assigned.   

These vacancies will be filled as an Assistant Planner ($81,085 - $121,628 annually) and Associate Planner ($96,549 - $144,825 annually). 

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES 

Assistant Planner:  

• Manage and process applications for development projects, including residential, mixed-use, commercial, industrial, and institutional proposals  

• Facilitate in-person and virtual permit submittals 

• Respond to phone and email inquiries  

• Consult and advise property owners, architects, engineers, contractors, and the public regarding applications, City policies, codes, and other plans.   

• Prepare clear and concise technical documents, reports, correspondence and other written materials.  

• Exercise sound independent judgement.

Associate Planner:

The Central Garage is part of the Public Works Maintenance & Operations Division. About the Role 

As a Mechanic I/II, you will:

• Planned and carried out preventive maintenance schedules for all city vehicles and equipment.

• Diagnose and repair gasoline, diesel, and alternative-fuel engines; hydraulic, electrical, fuel, ignition, exhaust, and brake systems.

• Operate computerized diagnostic instruments plus a full range of hand, air, and electric tools.

• Maintain concise and clear repair records in our repair management software.

• Perform welding, metal fabrication, tire work, and minor body repairs.

• Provide emergency field assistance and respond to critical fleet issues on a 24-hour standby.

• (Mechanic II only) Lead and review the work of assigned staff and manage garage inventory, purchasing, and repair/maintenance planning

• • Mechanic II - 4 years progressively responsible automotive diagnosis & repair

• License - Valid CA Class B driver’s license or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire

• Certifications

• • Mechanic I - ASE certifications are preferred; Master Mechanic is highly desirable

• • Mechanic II - similar to Mechanic I, plus demonstrated journey-level competency.

The City of Foster City is recruiting for a part-time Parks Maintenance Worker in the Parks Department. The is a part-time non-benefited position working approximately 20 hours per week, and no benefits are provided. 

Important and Essential Responsibilities

Education and Training Guidelines:

Education: Completion of a job or technical training program in maintenance, construction, or groundskeeping; completion of high school or the equivalent. 

Experience: One year of full time experience in general maintenance, construction, or groundskeeping.

Selection Process
Applications will be reviewed for relevant education, experience, training and other job related qualifications. Based upon a review of employment applications received, a limited number of the qualified applicants will be invited to participate in the examination process. 

The process will consist of an Oral Panel Interview. An eligibility list will be established from those who pass the examination process. Current and future vacancies may be filled from this list. The list will remain in effect for at least one year unless exhausted sooner.

What You’ll Do

The Public Works Maintenance Leadworker performs skilled work in the construction, maintenance, and repair of sewer infrastructure, road ways, sidewalks, and storm conveyance system. The Leadworker assigns and participates in the work of maintenance crews, operates power driven equipment, and performs related work as required.   This position is responsible for lead supervision of a sewer, street, storm or traffic safety maintenance field crew.
