PHYSICAL, MENTAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL WORKING CONDITIONS

Position requires sitting, standing, walking on level and slippery surfaces, reaching, twisting, turning, kneeling, bending, stooping, squatting, crouching, grasping and making repetitive hand movement in the performance of daily duties. The position also requires both near and far vision when inspecting work and operating assigned equipment. The need to lift, carry and push tools, equipment and supplies weighing 25 pounds or more is also required. Additionally, the incumbent in this outdoor position works in all weather conditions including wet, hot and cold. The incumbent may use cleaning and lubricating chemicals, pesticides or herbicides which may expose the employee to fumes, dust and air contaminants. The nature of the work also requires the incumbent to climb ladders, use power and noise producing tools and equipment, operate hydraulic aerial devices, drive motorized vehicles and heavy equipment, work in heavy vehicle traffic conditions and often work with constant interruptions.

The City of Menlo Park is currently accepting applications for a temporary Equipment Mechanic in the Fleet Services Section of the Public Works Department. The County of San Mateo Procurement Division is seeking an experienced procurement professional for the position of Contract Administrator II (CA II). This position will provide procurement advice and assistance to departmental procurement staff throughout the County. The Procurement Division supports 23 departments within the County.

As of April 2024, procurement within the County is handled through OpenGov Procurement (OpenGov) software. Experience with OpenGov is desired but not required. OpenGov training will be provided to the CA II staff member.

An Incumbent at this level is typically assigned the more complex contracts.

The CA II staff member will have strong communication skills and professional conduct. They will be expected to provide excellent customer service while explaining procurement to county-wide staff. They will be comfortable creating and delivering trainings to staff on procurement topics.

Confidence in learning new technology will be important to this role. The CA II will be expected to become an advanced user of OpenGov and assist staff with navigating the software.

About the Position
Under administrative direction, the position manages the Air Quality Modeling and Analysis (AQM&A) Section in the AIM Division. The manager is responsible for: maintaining a positive work environment within the AQM&A Section to promote a culture of excellence; directing the development and evaluation of air quality modeling analyses at both regional and local scales, including modeling assessment of potential health impacts from various air pollutants and emission sources; with support from AIM Division staff, developing, evaluating, and reporting modeling-based assessments of community exposure and health impacts from air pollution; interacting with the Board of Directors, Advisory Council, and Air District management and staff on air quality modeling assessments; and performing related work as assigned.

Incumbents in this class make decisions that have impacts on daily operations and implementation of established procedures and policies and solve problems requiring analyses of issues that may result in deviations from routine processes, new technology, and additional resources.  Incumbents make recommendations for program planning and directing, as well as organizing new and future resource needs.

About the Division
The Assessment, Inventory, and Modeling (AIM) Division prepares comprehensive source emission inventories for the Bay Area and conducts air quality modeling at both regional and community scales. AIM prepares technical assessments that evaluate equity in air pollution exposures and health impacts in support of Air District programs. AIM coordinates and implements programs to improve and report estimates of emissions of criteria pollutants, toxic air contaminants, and climate forcing pollutants. AIM maintains the Bay Area photochemical grid modeling platform and functions, developed and analyze modeled concentrations, exposures of toxic air contaminants, particulate matter, ozone and their precursors, to support targeted strategies that reduce impacts of air pollution both regionally and within communities, especially where Assembly Bill (AB) 617 community action plans are being developed and implemented. AIM reviews and provides guidance on environmental health risk assessments within environmental review documents prepared pursuant to California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA).

The incumbent will assume responsibility for leading and managing multiple programs and functional areas within the AIM Division and assisting the Division Director in implementing the Air District’s policies and best practices, as well as making decisions regarding program planning, project prioritization, and staff resources allocation. Recruitment and Selection Process

This position requires a current POST-certified Basic Training Academy graduation certificate. Only those candidates who have the best combination of qualifications in relation to the needs of the Department will continue in the selection process. Meeting the minimum qualifications does not guarantee an invitation to the process.

The recruitment process include may include an oral board interview exam, Chief’s interview and/or other related components. This position is subject to the California POST minimum selection standards. The selected candidate will be required to complete a comprehensive, job-related background investigation, live scan check, pre-placement medical examination, psychological evaluation and/or other appropriate, related components.
