Key Responsibilities:

Minimum Qualifications:

Education:
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in public administration, business administration, or a related field

Experience:
Five (5) years of increasingly responsible experience in a City Clerk’s office or a comparable municipal environment

Licenses/Certifications:

• Certified Municipal Clerk (CMC) designation is desirable (or ability to obtain)
• Notary Public certification within one year of hire
• Valid California Driver’s License

Special Requirements:

• Ability to attend evening City Council meetings
• Flexibility to work varied hours, including occasional weekends
• Ability to travel to different sites as needed

Under direction, provides clerical and administrative support to a department head, division head, section supervisor and/or supervisory and professional staff within a variety of City departments. CLASS CHARACTERISITICS:

This is the lead-level class in the Administrative Assistant series. Under general supervision, may provide lead direction and training to a small group of Administrative Assistants and Office Specialists; provides difficult and/or specialized office support to a designated department head, division head, section supervisor and/or supervisory and professional staff within a variety of City departments; and performs related work as assigned. This position is distinguished from the Administrative Assistant II class by the high degree of independence, level of responsibility, the greater complexity of assignments received, and its possible supervisory nature. EXAMPLES OF DUTIES (illustrative only):

• May provide lead direction, training and review of work of those in the Office Specialist and Administrative Assistant series.
• Coordinates purchasing and supply ordering activities; contacts vendors; obtains the best terms and prices; arranges for delivery; and processes paperwork for payment.
• Arranges for the maintenance and repair of facilities and equipment; follows up to ensure that repairs have been completed.
• Prepares policies and procedures for department use; disseminates such procedures and instructs others in their use.
• Coordinates the issuance of permits for use of various City facilities; may arrange for staff coverage for specified events.
• Interprets departmental and/or program rules, policies, and procedures for others; recommends improvements to policies and procedures.
• Prepares a variety of written reports and correspondence regarding department or program activities, policies, procedures and/or services; maintains records and files.
• May assist in the development and administration of the annual program and/or departmental budget; analyzes requests and prepares cost figures; determines the reason for variances.
• May provide general administrative support to departmental and/or program staff in such areas as payroll, contract administration, and production and distributions of written and promotional materials.

• May attend and participate in professional group meetings to maintain knowledge of developing trends and/or innovations in assigned program area.

THE POSITION:

Essential Duties:

What you will do: 
Duties may include but are not limited to the following:

• Plan, prioritize, and review the work of staff assigned to various utilities operations and maintenance activities including electrical, mechanical and distribution system operations, repair and maintenance functions and activities.
• Develop schedules and methods to accomplish assignments ensuring work is completed in a timely and efficient manner.
• Participate in evaluating the activities of staff, recommending improvements and modifications.
• Provide and coordinate staff training; work with employees to correct deficiencies. 
• Organize, prioritize and coordinate Utilities operations and maintenance special construction projects including, but not limited to, in-house or in-house/contracted tank repairs and modifications, sewer lift station replacement projects, earthwork at tank sites; grade separation upgrade and replacement projects; large scale aqueduct and sewer force main repair projects; pump station upgrade and replacement projects; pressure-regulating station construction projects; and large scale bypass pumping efforts involving potable water, raw sewage. reclaimed water, and storm water.
• Coordinate and participate in Utilities maintenance activities, ensuring that the work is performed correctly and in accordance with all safety regulations.
• Confer with and make recommendations to management personnel regarding repair, maintenance and operation of the water distribution, sewer collection and storm sewer systems.
• Recommend capital improvement and replacement projects.
• Ensure that daily work assignments are completed.
• Operate the computerized maintenance management system (CMMS).
• Operate the Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system as it relates to the operations of the City’s storage, transmission, pumping, wastewater, and stormwater systems.
• Assist Utilities Electrical and Mechanical O&M Manager in the selection and oversight of outside consultants and contractors, including evaluating vendors and sole source recommendations. 
• As assigned, review, evaluate and prepare comments on construction plans, drawings and specifications related to area of responsibility.
• Respond to emergencies as required and, in coordination with higher level management personnel, implement appropriate measures to address emergency conditions resulting from equipment and system malfunctions.
• Assume a working lead role for the Division’s special construction projects and large scale temporary bypass pumping efforts.
• Identify utilities maintenance needs, review with management personnel and initiate proper action to resolve the problems.
• Actively participate in safety meetings and special trainings.
• Represent the City with dignity, integrity, and the spirit of cooperation in all relations with staff and the public.

The City of Berkeley invites you to apply for the position of Senior Information Systems Specialist in the Department of Information Technology! In this role, you will support a variety of initiatives in connection with the City's Digital Strategic Plan, the Berkeley Resilience Strategy, and other long-term goals. You'll partner with staff from various City departments to assess hardware and software needs and develop innovative and intuitive solutions.

As part of the IT Department, you'll join a dynamic team and serve as a technical authority in networking, virtual server management, Voice Over IP, disaster recovery, infrastructure and application security, cloud virtualization, Active Directory administration, Office 365 apps, and Intune Desktop and mobile device management. This position is at the forefront of ensuring the City's technology ecosystem operates efficiently, securely, and with the highest levels of performance.
 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

A typical way of gaining the knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position is:
Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college, with major coursework preferably in information technology, computer science, network engineering, mathematics, business or public administration, or a field related to the department to which assigned, and two (2) years of experience in managing and supporting IT systems or network infrastructure. Experience in technical support, managing networks, or other relevant information technology work may be substituted for the education on a year-for-year basis.

Must be able to travel to various locations within and outside the City of Berkeley to meet program needs and to fulfill the job responsibilities. When driving on City business, the incumbent is required to maintain a valid California driver's license as well as a satisfactory driving record.

In addition to the qualifications mentioned above, the ideal candidate will possess:

• Experience with Cisco routers and switches, LAN/WAN, MPLS, VLANs and QOS in a large-scale infrastructure
• Virtual server management (including Nutanix and VMware Hyperconverged technologies)

Announcement/Job Information: 

Under general supervision of a Police Sergeant, the non-sworn Community Service Aide provides technical police services in crime prevention, crime investigation, and crime response which do not require full police powers and assists police officers in the maintenance of law and order.

CLASS CHACTERISTICS
The Community Service Aide is a journey-level classification, fully competent to independently perform a variety of patrol and special assignment support duties. A Community Service Aide may be assigned to an organizational unit including Community Oriented Policing and Problem Solving (COPPS) and Investigations. This classification has clear guidelines to help with independent decision-making, and supervision is available when unusual or complex situations arise.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES (illustrative only):

• Receive and transmit calls for service over the police radio.
• Issue vehicle parking and registration citations.
• Mark, arrange tow, and maintain files for abandoned vehicles; cite vehicle/owner for violation after a given period of time of being marked.
• Direct traffic at major injury collisions, chemical spills, malfunctioning traffic signals, and special events.
• Drive a marked police vehicle; transport children to foster care facilities, citizens including stranded motorists, and city staff; deliver messages, property, and evidence as dispatched to court, citizens, or other agencies.
• Interview witnesses or others involved search for, collect, and identify evidence; and write reports for crimes with no suspect, lost and found cases, and non-injury collisions.
• Engage in general patrol observation; report any suspicious activity to dispatch and patrol officers.
• Patrol and enforce animal regulation laws and ordinances, which include receiving and investigating complaints and reports regarding stray, dangerous, unwanted or improperly controlled dogs, livestock and other animals; answering emergency calls and investigating persons bitten and quarantining the animal; and impounding, transporting and giving first aid to animals.
• Verify and certify mechanical violations receiving a citation have been corrected.
• Search files for information to aid in apprehending a criminal, returning lost property, determining the disposition of a vehicle and other problem resolution.
• Assist in the processing of evidence to include crime scene photography, sketching, video, evidence collection, and preservation as well as other duties associated with evidence processing. Assist in routine equipment/vehicle maintenance.
• Assist with clerical functions such as entering data and conducting file searches on the computer and typing filing, and form completion.
• Provide municipal code updates and additions for best practices and law changes.
• Coordinate training of both current employees (CPT) and new employees (FTO).
• Testify in court.
• Inspect and clean the holding facilities and radio-equipped vehicles in order to maintain health/safety standards.
• Search and/or obtain specimens from same-sex prisoners.
• Performs related work as required.

Community Oriented Policing and Problem Solving (COPPS):

• Perform community outreach.
• Assist, participate, and support community events (e.g., Shop with a Cop Coffee with Cops, National Night Out, Summer Sandlot etc.).
• Assist with the neighborhood watch program/meetings.
• Assist with COPPS unit projects.
• Liaison with Youth and Family Services (YFS).
• Performs related work in COPPS as required.

Investigations:

• Ensure registration of habitual sex and narcotic offenders are complete and organized.
• Attend a basic POST approved Crime Scene Investigation course and other applicable, advanced trainings.
• Assist with the collection and preservation of evidence to include taking crime scene photographs, searching and dusting for latent fingerprints, crime scene diagrams, laser scanning of crime scenes, and attending autopsies. Arrange for proper identification of evidence.
• Assist Detectives with basic investigative follow-up (e.g. no identified suspect fingerprint results, gather surveillance footage, etc.)
• Performs related work in Investigations as required.

Under general supervision, provides a variety of routine to complex clerical support services within assigned police areas, including but not limited to: typing, word processing, transcribing detailed and confidential material, record keeping and filing, and assisting with the administration of the Police Department’s budget. Performs related work as assigned.

CLASS CHARACTERISITICS:

The Police Office Assistant is a journey-level position, fully competent to independently perform a variety of office support duties. All positions are characterized by the presence of fairly clear guidelines from which to make decisions and the availability of supervision in non- routine circumstances. Specific duties, including the amount of typing, word processing, and use of on-line or personal computers, will vary with the organization unit to which assigned.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES (illustrative only):

• Types correspondence, reports, and specialized documents related to the functions of the police unit to which assigned from drafts, notes, dictated tapes, or brief instructions, using a typewriter or word processor.
• Proofreads and edits as necessary typed and other materials for accuracy, completeness, compliance with departmental policies and correct English usage, including grammar, punctuation, and spelling.

The City of Newark is looking for General Laborer to be an integral member of the Maintenance Division within the Public Works Department. Under supervision the incumbent will perform tasks to include general cleaning and maintenance of city parks to include planting of trees, shrubs, pruning, fertilizing and watering, mowing and edging turf areas, as well as trash removal from parks, roadways, and medians. This active laborer will remove graffiti, install signage, and assist in the cleaning of storm drains.
