POSITION DETAILS:
- Salary Range from $46.94 to $60.27 hourly + Excellent Benefits
- 3% Cost of Living Adjustment increase effective 6/28/27
- 3% Cost of Living Adjustment increase effective 6/26/28
- Generally, salary placement is at the beginning of the salary range.
- Advanced placement may be granted depending on related education and experience.
NOTE: The City recently completed a compensation study comparing its salary ranges with those of other local agencies. As a result, 87% of salary ranges will be adjusted upward at various intervals. As ranges are adjusted, job postings will be updated to reflect these changes.
- Full-time, regular position
- 9/80 work schedule with alternating Friday off
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
Education/Training:
- Equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in engineering, architecture, or a related field.
Experience:
- Three years of increasingly responsible engineering experience, preferably with a public agency or two years as an Assistant Engineer with the City of Simi Valley.
License or Certificate:
- Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate, valid driver’s license.
- Possession of an Engineer in Training (EIT) certificate

IDEAL CANDIDATE:
The ideal candidate will:
- Manage complex water infrastructure projects from design through construction, ensuring compliance with all applicable codes, standards, and regulations.
- Apply advanced civil engineering principles to prepare, review, and refine plans, specifications, cost estimates, and technical calculations.
- Exercise sound engineering judgment when evaluating alternatives, resolving field issues, and making recommendations that support project goals.
- Mentor technical staff by assigning work, reviewing performance, and providing training and guidance.
- Interpret and apply waterworks codes and standards including municipal regulations, construction requirements, and environmental guidelines.
- Conduct field inspections to verify construction quality, resolve discrepancies, and ensure adherence to approved plans.
- Prepare clear technical reports, staff recommendations, and documentation for internal and external stakeholders.
- Coordinate with contractors, consultants, and agencies to review proposals, monitor work activities, and maintain project alignment.
- Analyze engineering problems, identify solutions, and communicate impacts and recommendations effectively.
- Review and evaluate engineering and architectural plans including calculations, material specifications, and geotechnical reports.
- Utilize engineering software tools for design, modeling, drafting, and data analysis.
- Communicate clearly and professionally with the public, developers, contractors, and City staff.
- Work independently while managing multiple priorities and meeting established deadlines.
