There is one (1) full-time, regular hire Senior Civil Engineer vacancy in the Engineering Division. 

Under direction, the Senior Civil Engineer, plans, manages, and coordinates the engineering program. Using broad parameters of departmental policy guidelines, this position exercises substantial initiative, judgment, and expertise to meet program and project outcomes. The Senior Civil Engineer creates the scope on large civil engineering projects with complex budgets and timelines, integrating numerous elements that significant stakeholder involvement and sensitivity. This position provides direction and mentorship to more junior staff and oversees both technical and administrative work performed by their staff and ensures that projects are completed efficiently and effectively for the public good. Informing the public and Board of Supervisors, selecting consultants, preparing contract documents, reviewing project plans and specifications prepared by consultants, and administering contracts during construction are performed by the Senior Civil Engineer. 

Signing bonus:
In addition to a competitive compensations package, new, full-time, regular hire Senior Civil Engineers are eligible to receive a $10,000 signing bonus which will be split into two equal payments: 50% at time of hire (i.e. first paycheck) and the remaining 50% after successful completion of their probationary period.

Hybrid schedule:
The Department of Public Works has embraced a hybrid work schedule that considers that some duties of this position may be performed remotely. However, the successful candidate must be able to report to County facilities for meetings, work assignments, and/or disaster service work upon short notice, as needed and deemed appropriate. During the initial probationary period, the successful candidate may be required to work primarily onsite before establishing a hybrid work schedule

Senior Transportation Planner (Temporary/Hourly)
Salary: $65.0163 - $83.5561 per hour

The Town of Los Gatos is accepting applications for a temporary/unbenefited Senior Transportation Planner position in the Parks and Public Works Department. This is a unique opportunity to shape and develop a vital role within our organization.

The Senior Transportation Planner will focus on managing projects and programs that support sustainable transportation opportunities for the Town while addressing and improving mobility, safety, environmental, social, and economic conditions around transportation. The selected candidate will support the Town’s ongoing initiatives around transportation planning, including identifying grant programs and managing transportation planning-related projects.

About the Department
The Parks and Public Works Department (PPW) is responsible for the maintenance and improvements of the Town's public parks, facilities, streets, and other infrastructure.  Our goal is to efficiently provide residents, businesses, and visitors with the highest quality service possible, with dedication and professionalism.  The Department has five service areas: Engineering, Capital Improvement, Streets and Signals, Parks, and Environmental Services. The Department also collaborates with all Town departments, and external partners and stakeholders.

• Engineering Services: The Engineering team provides services in the areas of encroachment permits and permitting and inspection of other work in the public right of way, including situations where new developments need to provide improvements in the right of way.  
   
• Capital Improvement: The Capital Improvement team develops and constructs capital projects across all Town assets, including improvements to roads, streetlights, parks, and Town buildings. See the annual capital budget for a list of current capital projects.
   
• Streets and Signals: The Streets and Signals team maintains the Town’s roadways, signs, and traffic signals. • Park Services: The Park Services team maintains the Town’s parks, trails, open spaces, facility grounds, median islands, parking lot landscaping, downtown planters, and the urban forest as well as administering park use fees and reservations.
   
• Environment Services: The Environmental Services team ensures that the Town is at the forefront of environmental stewardship. This team also manages the Town’s utilities, including the contract with West Valley Collection and Recycling for garbage service Town wide.

• Performs other transportation related duties as assigned.

Parking Programs

• Oversees the Town’s Parking Programs.
• Oversees the work of and administers contracts for transportation and parking consultants.
• Develops policies, procedures, and operational actions related to effective parking management, including periodic review of parking-related policy issues such as rates, time limits, enforcement hours, loading zones, and other issues.

Minimum Qualifications

Any combination of training and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be:
 
Education: Any combination of training and experience equivalent to a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in transportation planning, city and regional planning, urban studies, civil engineering, or closely related field.

Experience: Five (5) years of increasingly responsible experience in transportation development programs, including two (2) years of project management.  A Master’s Degree from an accredited college or university is desirable.

License and Certification: 

• A California Driver's License and a satisfactory driving record are conditions of initial and continued employment. 
• Possession of a Certificate of Registration as Professional Transportation Planner or Professional Engineer in the State of California, or certification from the American Institute of Certified Planners is highly desirable.   

EXCITING OPPORTUNITY

THE POSITION

Typical duties of the Senior Building Inspector position include, but are not limited to:

 Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge and Abilities):

• Knowledge of state and local building, electrical, plumbing, mechanical, energy, accessibility, and fire codes and local building, fire and zoning ordinances.
• Principles and techniques of building construction, building materials and accepted safety standards; Principles and techniques of building inspection.
• Ability to read, analyze and interpret building plans and specifications; understand, interpret and apply codes, ordinances, and regulations; communicate clearly and concisely in English, both orally and in writing.
• Use windows-based computer programs such as MS Word and Excel.
• Operate a car and pickup truck safely, back vehicle a long distance, and steer through narrow roadways and hillsides.

Experience and Training:

• Five years of progressively responsible experience in building inspection, including commercial inspection and/or plan check experience, of which two (2) years must be at full journey level.
• Three years of experience as a building inspector or related field involving inspection or code enforcement.
• Graduation from high school or equivalent to the completion of 12th grade – college training in the field of civil engineering, architecture, or building technology may be substituted for equivalent year of work experience. Associated of Arts degree preferred.
• Possession of, or ability to obtain within 3 months, a valid California driver’s license
• Possession of, or ability to obtain within 6 months, certification, through the International Code Council, as a California Residential Building Inspector- J1 and California Commercial Building Inspector- I1

Special Requirements/Physical Demands:

• On-site field inspections and office work require a moderate amount of physical agility. Intermittently walk, stand, twist, squat, kneel, climb, and bend both in the office and in the field.
• On a continuous basis, sit at a desk or stand at a counter to answer questions of the public.  Write by long hand and use a computer keyboard to communicate through written means.
• Frequently lift or carry a weight of up to 10 pounds and occasionally up to 50 pounds.
• The nature of the work requires the individual to climb 30’ to 40’ ladders or scaffolding to reach high areas such as roofs, balance on narrow walkways or steep-pitched roofs, crawl through narrow openings and in confined spaces.
• During inspections, the individual may be required to walk on uneven surfaces. Work will require exposure to intermittent uncomfortable working conditions such as dust, noise, and extreme cold or heat. Inspections are done out-of-doors year-round.

The Process Control Technician performs a variety of technical and professional engineering duties related to the design, installation, set-up, programming, troubleshooting and maintenance of hardware, software and instrumentation associated with the District’s Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems.

• When assigned to investigations, recent court decisions on arrest procedures and the preservation and presentation of evidence; and
• When assigned to investigations, methods and techniques used in interviewing witnesses, victims, or suspects including effective methods of obtaining information from reluctant witnesses.

• When assigned to investigations, perform specialized investigative duties involving the interpretation, explanation, and application of laws and proper investigative techniques;
• When assigned to investigations, gather, assemble, analyze, and evaluate facts and evidence, drawing appropriate conclusions and making recommendations for the disposition of cases;
• When assigned to investigations, secure information from witnesses, victims, and suspects;
• Undertake and satisfactorily complete required and assigned in-service training programs;
• Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing; and
• Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.

Education and Experience Guidelines - Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

PATTERN I – ACADEMY LEVEL

• Must have successfully completed a POST certified basic academy not more than three (3) years prior to the date of application.
• Must possess or be eligible to possess a Proof of Eligibility (POE) or certificate (Basic, Intermediate, or Advanced) from California Peace Officer Standards and Training under SB 2.  Ineligibility or decertification from POST will automatically disqualify candidate from holding a peace officer classification.

Experience:

• Some work experience as a California peace officer or other work experience that demonstrates a general aptitude for police work.

PATTERN II –LATERAL TRANSFER

• Successfully completed (at any time) a California POST certified basic law enforcement academy: AND
• Must be currently employed in a California law enforcement agency with at least one (1) year of full-time experience as a sworn peace officer with a California law enforcement agency, and be eligible for appointment as a Peace Officer under Section 830.1 PC; AND
• Must possess a basic POST certificate issued by California Commission on Peace Officers Standards and Training or other documentation to substantiate your eligibility.
• Must possess or be eligible to possess a Proof of Eligibility (POE) or certificate (Basic, Intermediate, or Advanced) from California Peace Officer Standards and Training under SB 2.  Ineligibility or decertification from POST will automatically disqualify candidate from holding a peace officer classification.

In addition to either Pattern I & II 

License or Certificate:

• Graduate from high school or passage of high school level General Education Development (GED) test: AND
• Possess and maintain an appropriate, valid driver’s license; AND
• Not less than 21 years of age at time of appointment; AND

• Qualify for or possess a P.O.S.T. Basic Certificate upon completion of the probationary period; AND
• Must possess or be eligible to possess a Proof of Eligibility (POE) or certificate (Basic, Intermediate, or Advanced) from California Peace Officer Standards and Training under SB2.  Ineligibility or decertification from POST will automatically disqualify a candidate from holding a peace officer classification; AND
• Possession and maintain CPR and First Aid certifications upon completion of the probationary period.

physical demands and WORKING ENVIRONMENT

The conditions herein are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential job functions.

Environment: Reactive emergency, natural or man-made disaster, and routine peace keeping environments with travel from site to site. The employee is regularly exposed to outside weather conditions; occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, extreme cold, extreme heat, risk of electrical shock, risk of radiation, and vibration; potentially hostile environments; extensive public contact. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate but may be very loud due to sirens, firearm training, etc. Incumbents required to work various shifts, including evenings and weekends, and may be required to travel outside City boundaries to attend meetings.

Physical: Primary functions require sufficient physical ability to work in a law enforcement setting and an office setting; restrain or subdue individuals; walk, stand, sit, or run for prolonged periods of time; occasionally stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, and twist; occasionally climb and balance; regularly push, pull, lift, and/or carry light to moderate weights; frequently lift and/or move moderate to heavy weights; occasionally lift and/or move heavy weights; operate office equipment including use of computer keyboard; requires a sense of touch, finger dexterity, and gripping with hands and fingers; ability to speak and hear to exchange information; ability to operate a vehicle to travel to various locations; ability to operate and use specialized law enforcement tools and equipment including guns and handcuffs.

Vision: See in the normal visual range with or without correction.

Hearing: Hear in the normal audio range with or without correction.
