THE POSITION:

The City of Hayward is excited to announce its recruitment for the position of Jail Supervisor. Under the direction of the Jail Administrator, incumbents perform the most difficult and responsible types of duties including providing technical and functional supervision over jail personnel. Employees at this level are required to be fully trained in all procedures related to assigned area of responsibility. 

To plan, assign and review the work of assigned jail personnel; to perform duties related to the booking, searching and monitoring of prisoners; and to assist with other non sworn police activities as necessary. This is an advanced journey level class. Employees perform the most difficult and responsible types of duties including providing technical and functional supervision over jail personnel. Employees at this level are required to be fully trained in all procedures related to assigned area of responsibility.

You are:

The ideal candidate will be committed to providing excellent service and possess the ability to multi-task several duties while supervising staff and ensuring health and safety standards in a secure Type I jail facility. The candidate should have experience training and evaluating others, completing administrative reports, and understanding the principles of report writing. Successful completion of the “Correction Officer Supervisor Course” issued by the State of California Standards and Training for Correction Program or Peace Officer Standards and Training Supervisory Course is highly desired.
 

Essential Duties:

What you will do: 
Duties may include but are not limited to the following:

• Plan, assign and review the work of assigned jail personnel.
• Evaluates performance of assigned jail personnel; work with employees to correct deficiencies; implement disciplinary procedures; and counsels employees.
• Approves days off and vacation requests from jail personnel and coordinates replacements for vacancies; schedules emergency and short-term assignments for the jail.
• Assists in the development and implementation of new policies, procedures, programs and goals/objectives for the jail facility.
• Assists in identifying training needs and the design of training programs; supervises and/or provides training to employees assigned to the jail adhering to the laws pertaining to a Type I jail facility.
• Train and develop assigned personnel; maintain awareness of new procedures related to prisoner incarceration.
• Book prisoners into the jail; prepare paperwork on prisoners; fingerprint and photograph prisoners.
• Maintain light security of the jail; separate prisoners as necessary.
• Verify warrants and criminal history of prisoners on law enforcement computer systems.
• Transport prisoners to court or other jail facilities.
• Respond to the public inquiries on the phone and in person and provide information as appropriate.
• Deliver prescribed medication to prisoners.
• Inventory and order jail supplies and food.
• May be assigned to act in the absence of the Jail Administrator.
• Perform related duties as assigned.

Experience: Two (2) years of increasingly responsible experience performing duties as a jailer in a department similar to the Hayward Police Department.

Education: Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade.

License: Possession of a valid Class C California driver's license at time of appointment.

Must possess a Basic Corrections Officer Academy Certificate from a certified Standards and Training for Corrections (STC) academy.

Must possess or obtain, during the probationary, certificates for the "Correction Officer Supervisor Course" issued by the State of California Standards and Training for Correction Program or the Peace Officer Standards and Training Supervisory Course.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS 

Essential duties require the mental and/or physical ability to: work in a standard office and jail facility environment; drive to various locations to transport prisoners; perform repetitive hand movements and fine coordination to book prisoners and prepare documents and data using a computer keyboard and mouse/trackball, use standard office equipment; sit for prolonged periods of time; stand, walk, reach, twist, turn, kneel, bend, squat and stoop in the performance of booking prisoners; converse by telephone and in person, and be clearly understood; interact with the public and all different levels of City staff in a professional manner; and safely lift, carry and maneuver property, boxes, or files weighing up to 35 pounds.

Under general supervision, provides clerical and administrative support to a department head, division head, section supervisor and/or supervisory and professional staff within a variety of City departments.  Typical functions may include, but are not limited to reception, word processing, record keeping, and filing.  May also perform related work as assigned.

CLASS CHARACTERISITICS:

Office Specialist I – This is the entry-level class in the Office Specialist series.  Initially under close supervision, incumbents learn office and City procedures.  As experience is gained, there is greater independence of action within established guidelines.  The Office Specialist I class includes part-time and temporary positions with incumbents available to provide relief support to a variety of City departments.  This class is alternately staffed by the Office Specialist II class.  Full-time incumbents may advance to the higher level after gaining experience and demonstrating proficiency which meet the qualifications of the higher class.

The City of Newark is seeking an experienced skateboarding instructor who can connect with participants of all ages, especially youth and teens. The Recreation Instructor will be responsible for the planning and implementation of skateboarding classes to be held at Mel Nunes Skatepark in Newark. Responsibilities include teaching fundamental techniques, promoting safety, and creating an encouraging environment where participants can build confidence and have fun while learning to skate.

REQUIREMENTS

The City of Newark is seeking dedicated professionals to be Public Safety Dispatchers and be members of a team providing excellent service to our community. DEFINITION

Responsible for the day-to-day responsibilities related to municipal traffic operations within the Town of Danville. Perform a variety of professional and technical level traffic and transportation engineering tasks, including traffic system planning, design and operation, and traffic control systems.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED

Receives direction from the Transportation Manager.  May exercise supervision over additional professional, technical and/or support staff as assigned. 

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES

Essential duties may include, but are not limited to the following:

• Conduct technical and administrative work in the functional areas of traffic operations, Downtown area, residential parking, and transportation planning and design.
• Manage the Town’s traffic signal and traffic control devices network in conjunction with the Transportation Manager.
• Serve as the public interface for matters related to traffic safety and circulation; develop and implement solutions with creative and professional use of acceptable traffic engineering standards. 
• Prepare traffic studies related to local traffic circulation and review traffic studies generated through the development review process, as directed. 
• Review collision reports and prepare and maintain collision diagrams.
• Conduct and maintain Traffic and Engineering Surveys.

• Monitor traffic signal network operations through the Town’s centralized traffic signal monitoring system.

• Conduct special research projects, including compiling and analyzing information; develop recommendations on courses of action; deliver concise, effective presentations to the Town Council, Town Commissions and members of the public.
• Coordinate with Police Department personnel to respond to public concerns related to traffic safety and circulation and parking.
• Provide staff support to other departments, boards, and commissions as directed.
• Maintain current program content om Town websites.
• Prepare and manage professional services contracts.
• Research and stay current on traffic engineering and transportation planning regulations, practices and technology.

QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge of:

• Fundamentals of traffic engineering inclusive of multi-modal transportation applications and practices.
• Signs and pavement markings standards; intersection and roadway capacity practices; intersection design; residential street design and traffic control.
• Transportation impact study elements and preparation processes; traffic signal operations; on‑ and off‑street parking standards; traffic control devices; and pavement management.
• GIS, AutoCAD, and general software applications.
• Traffic engineering-related software such as Synchro/SimTraffic, HCS, and Crossroads is preferred.

Ability to:

• Interpret plans and specifications; some GIS knowledge.
• Research and stay current on traffic engineering and transportation planning regulations, practices and technology.

Public sector experience preferred. 

Education:

An Associate degree in transportation, planning, transportation engineering, or closely related field.

The Department

The Human Services Department (HSD) delivers and supports services by forging long-term community partnerships; engaging with and building the capacity of the community to do its own problem-solving; and leveraging financial and volunteer resources.

The Position

The Clinical Supervisor will provide clinical and administrative leadership to the Aging and Family Services Division. The mission of the Aging and Family Services Division is to foster a high quality of life for older adults through its Senior Support Services. The Senior Support Services employs a team of caring professionals from diverse backgrounds which include social workers, a public health nurse, counselors, and peers who will work closely with other department staff to provide cohesive wrap-around services for older adults and their families.

This class is distinguished from the Administrative Assistant series by the former requiring a broader understanding of City functions, and a greater emphasis on preserving the confidentiality of sensitive information and the performance of highly technical assignment involving functions of the assigned department.

Receive supervision from the City Manager/Deputy City Manager or Department Head/Manager. Exercises no direct supervision over staff. 

• Receives and screens visitors and telephone calls, providing factual information which may require the interpretation of City policies and procedures; takes messages or refers the caller to the appropriate person. 

• Provide administrative support for the entire department (e.g. distribute and send mail, postings, arrange food and beverages, and set up and take down meetings, etc.)

• Researches, synthesizes, and compiles data for informational purposes, projects, or special reports or summaries.

• Implements and manages department filing system including records retention schedules both electronic and physical.

• Maintains confidential office files, records, and indexes.

• Schedules appointments, makes travel arrangements, maintains calendars and arranges and coordinates meetings and events.

• Prepares purchase requisitions, maintains records of purchase, and processes invoices.

• Perform data collection, analysis, and entry.

• Prepares charts, reports and/or narrative summaries.

• Accurately drafts and prepares letters, contracts, agendas, documents, memos, meeting minutes, reports, and correspondence.

• May attend a variety of meetings with City staff, contractors, vendors, representatives of other governmental and/or regulatory agencies and the public, to identify, discuss and/or resolve problems.

• Coordinates purchasing and ordering supplies; contacts vendors; obtains the best terms and prices; arranges for delivery; and processes paperwork for payment.
