The City of Foster City has an opening for an Engineering Intern in the Public Works Department. The position is part-time with flexible scheduling, up to 980 hours per fiscal year, and no benefits provided. The department is interested in candidates for the summer or between mid-May and early June.
Important and Essential Responsibilities:
Daily responsibilities will include working directly with the Public Works staff, populating and updating the Geographic Information Systems (GIS) database, and performing indexing and data entry. Other duties may include providing project assistance to technical and engineering staff related to capital improvement projects, researching, CAD drafting, plan review, field work, data collection and analysis, permit issuance, compiling information from various sources, and providing administrative or other support in the Public Works Department.
Education and Training Guidelines:
Any combination equivalent to experience and education that could likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities would be qualifying. A typical way would be:
Education: Graduation from high school. A degree or degree in progress (upperclassmen preferred) from an Engineering program in a school or university is required.
Experience: No experience is necessary; 6 months of paid or documented volunteer experience in a municipal agency is desirable.
Licenses, Certificates, Registration
Possession of a valid California Class C Driver’s License is preferred at the time of appointment. For positions where the ability to drive is not an essential function, the employee must be able to arrange reliable and timely transportation through private or public transportation for attendance at off-site meetings, events, and trainings.
Salary will be determined by experience and education.
Selection Process
Applications will be reviewed for relevant education, experience, training, and other job related qualifications. Based upon a review of employment applications received, a limited number of the qualified applicants will be invited to participate in the examination process. The process will consist of an Oral Panel Interview.
