Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will possess a valid State of California driver’s license and demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with individuals from diverse backgrounds. This position requires the ability to work independently while receiving direction from a supervisor, as well as the capacity to train, oversee, and collaborate effectively with volunteers and older adults. Strong attention to detail is essential, including the ability to maintain accurate records and submit documentation as required. Proficiency with computers, including experience using Microsoft Word and Excel, is required. Upon hire, the candidate must successfully obtain a State Food Handler Safety Certificate and pass all required background checks. A bilingual pay differential may be available for candidates fluent in identified languages.  Must be available Monday-Friday 10:00am-2:00pm.

Recreation Program Specialist Example Duties:

• Follow reservation protocol/procedure for patrons.
• Review menu provided by caterer, submit nutritional component breakdown to County for grant compliance, and prepare flyers for patron.
• Submit documentation/information associated with County nutrition grant to supervisor.
• Schedule and implement nutritional education for seniors and in-service training for staff and volunteers.
• Serve as liaison with caterer, grant provider and staff/volunteers.
• Implement food safety practices as outlined by the Health Department.
• Prior nutrition experience is desired, but not required. Training will be provided.

Summary: 
Under general supervision, facilitates youth engagement through prevention programming and provides ongoing support, crisis intervention, community social service referrals, and coaching for the teen population; and performs other duties as assigned.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Redirects youth into socially acceptable behaviors and socially constructive lifestyles through employment, education and recreation; models positive behavior through engagement in productive activities such as neighborhood teen clubs and camps; guides teens in goal setting and self-esteem building in high-risk populations.
• Assists youths in recognizing the consequences of their decisions; supports building life/social skills and developing executive function to enable students to become responsible members at school, in the community and at home.
• Provides ongoing and crisis coaching, researches and identifies referral services, makes referrals to proper units, communicates with responsible adults to prevent youth involvement in the justice system.
• Frequents local commercial complexes, parks and various community hot spots to interact and maintain positive contacts with store vendors, teens and gang-affiliated indivi­duals; promotes contact with hard-to-reach teens, preserves confidentiality of communi­cation when possible; networks with neighborhood and community organizations.
• Develops volunteer and employment opportunities and referrals for at-risk youth; contacts local agencies, develops vital relationships with stakeholders, connects youths with suitable programs; maintains knowledge and awareness of available resources and referral channels according to District guidelines.
• May serve on community task forces targeting at-risk youth; regularly corresponds with other District staff and administrators, school officials and community leaders; confers with com­munity groups and schools to formalize program ideas and promote participation in school and District programs.
• Conducts youth-related trainings for District staff as well as community development work­shops; prepares and maintains a variety of records and reports.

Other Duties and Responsibilities:

• May drive a District or personal vehicle.
• Non-exempt employees may be required to work overtime.
• Participates during disasters or when emergency response is needed.

Qualifications:

The City of Millbrae has multiple openings for the Recreation Leader (Summer Camp Counselor) position! This position will focus on our Millbrae Adventure Summer Camp, working as a Camp Counselor.  Hours will vary, and applicants are expected to be available to work full camp weeks. Recreation Leaders are also expected to attend a mandatory, paid training.

Definition: Under supervision, to provide leadership to recreation programs, activities or service; organizes and implements program elements and oversees participants; and performs related work as required.  This is a temporary part-time non-benefited position. 

Essential Duties:  Depending upon assignment, the duties of a Summer Camp Counselor - Recreation Leader I , II or III may include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Assists in planning, organizing, and leading summer camp activities.
• Organizes, inventories and maintains necessary facilities and materials.
• Maintains group and individual discipline. 
• Facilitates safe and positive camp experiences
• Follow written curriculum to implement activities including arts and crafts, group games, and sports.  
• Keeps records of attendance, participation.
• Typical duties include: implementation of camp curriculum, record keeping, maintaining supplies, and supervising groups of youth aged 3 to 12.
• Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.

Special Requirements:   Vision adequate to supervise participants in recreational programs; speak clearly; ability to bend stoop or crouch; physical stamina to supervise groups of youth participating in recreational programs; ability to work off-hours, shifts or events as required; strength to lift and carry materials weighing up to 20 pounds; and the ability to work outdoors in a variety of weather and temperature conditions.

Minimum Qualifications:

Knowledge of: 

• Common crafts, sports, games and recreation activities appropriate for all ages.
• Principles and methods used in organizing, conducting and supervising a program of recreational activities.

Education & Experience: 

Recreation Leader I:  Current enrollment in high school, with minimum age of 15 at time of appointment.  Must possess a work-permit. No previous experience required.

Recreation Leader II:  Current enrollment in high school, with minimum age of 16 at time of appointment.  Equivalent to three (3) months of full-time experience (approximately 500 hours) of volunteer or paid work experience in recreation programs or equivalent. Depending on area of assignment, previous knowledge of and experience participating in the activity and/or sport is desirable. 

Recreation Leader III:  Equivalent to completion of the twelfth (12) grade.  Equivalent to six (6) months full-time experience (approximately 1000 hours) of volunteer or paid work experience equivalent to a Recreation Leader II with the City of Millbrae. Depending on area of assignment, previous knowledge of and experience participating in the activity and/or sport is desirable.

Certificates:  Must possess a first aid/CPR certification, or be willing to obtain one. 

Service Standards:  

Must successfully complete background process.  All candidates will be fingerprinted pursuant to California State Law.  All successful candidates under age 18 must possess a work permit prior to hire.

Recreation Leader I/II
The City of Foster City is searching for talented, energetic, responsible individuals who are serious about having fun! If you can think on your feet and be a fun team player, this could be the position for you! As a Recreation Leader, you’ll be responsible for implementing quality youth and teen programs and providing a safe environment for our participants. This is a part-time, seasonal, non-benefited position limited to approximately 20 hours per week and 980 hours in a fiscal year. Level of position will be determined based on the experience (see Education and Training Guidelines). 

Summer Camps
Candidates must commit to working for the entire Summer (June 15, 2026 - August 8, 2026). There will also be a mandatory training for all new and returning staff on June 8, 2026 through June 12, 2026. Work hours will vary between 7:45am – 6:00pm depending on the camp, Monday through Friday. No weekends shifts are available. 

Summer Camps: Kamp Koala, Camp Outback, Camp Way Outback, Camp Breakaway. 

The Vibe Teen Center
We are looking for Recreation Leaders to assist with supervision, lead recreational activities, supervise rentals, and plan special events for teens. This position will start in June and Recreation Leaders must be able to work on a Friday or work a weekend shift each week. Work hours will vary, but typically will be from:

School Year Schedule: Positions are limited.

• Monday - Thursday 3:00pm-6:00pm
• Fridays 3:00pm-9:00pm
• Some weekend shifts are available.

Summer Schedule: 

• Monday-Thursday: 3:00pm-6:00pm
• Fridays: 3:00pm-8:00pm
• Some weekend shifts are available.

Salary 

• Recreation Leader I: $17.85 - $20.48

Important and Essential Responsibilities 

• Must be at least 15 years of age to work at Summer Camps and 16 years of age to work at The Vibe.

Recreation Leader I: Completion of eighth grade. No previous experience required. Volunteer or paid experience with groups of children is desirable.

Recreation Leader II: Completion of the ninth grade. Experience as a participant in a variety of recreation activities. Some experience in group leadership is desirable.

Special Requirements 
Ability to lift and move equipment (up to 25 lbs.); complete forms and reports; ability to set-up and coordinate activities; remain calm and use good judgment in difficult and emergency situations; work flexible hours. Physical strength and stamina will be required in some positions to perform demonstrations and leads activities. 

Licenses, Certificates, Registration 

• Certificates: American Red Cross Community First Aid and Safety Course or equivalent (including adult, child infant CPR, and Standard First Aid) or ability to obtain at the beginning of employment.

The Position

The Community Services Supervisor is responsible for all aspects of direct coordination and supervision of one or more significant program areas within one of the Community Services Division’s major program Sections, and for assisting the Community Services Section Manager with the overall direction and supervision of the Section. Depending upon assignment, duties may include, but are not limited to the following:

• Supervise, schedule, train, and evaluate subordinate personnel and volunteers
• Coordinate, promote, implement and evaluate recreation and human services activities as assigned
• Organize and schedule Citywide activities in assigned area of responsibility

• Maintain close contact with school officials, community groups and citizens regarding program implementation

• May open or close and secure facilities in compliance with District policies and procedures
• Issue and collect recreation equipment and supplies used by instructors, participants, or visitors

The City of San Bruno Fire Department offers an exciting opportunity to serve as a Fire Cadet. Our one-year Fire Cadet program is an unpaid, volunteer work experience program that offers hands-on training, and introductory knowledge of firefighting skills, fire service tools and equipment. Cadets respond to emergency calls, render Basic Life Support and participate in training, and participate in the daily station duties.

Cadets must be willing to commit to 24-hour shifts, two to four times per month. The cadet program is one year in length. Upon completion, this program meets the manipulative training and experience requirements in obtaining a California State Fire Marshal’s Office Firefighter II certification.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

• State of California EMT or National Registry EMT certification
• Possession of a valid driver’s license and a driving record with minimal violations
• Possession of a Firefighter I Academy certification (or proof of “student in good standing” letter signed by an Academy Instructor if currently enrolled)
• 18 years of age at the time of application

The City of Belmont Parks & Recreation Department is recruiting for the position of Recreation Leaders for Summer 2026. Recreation Leader Requirement 

• Must be age 15 or older by June 1, 2026.
• Must be available for paid training June 10 - June 12, 2026.
• Must be available for 2026 summer camp season June 15 - August 7, 2026.
• Camp closed Friday, July 3 for the Holiday.

Recreation leaders will

• Work with campers ages 4 ½ to 13 years of age.

• Be able to work any assigned shift with varying hourly schedules (Monday-Friday).

• Participate in pre-summer training sessions, camp set-up and clean-up.

• Lead games, songs, arts & crafts, sports, and large group projects all summer long.

• Be outspoken and demonstrate good role model to the staff and campers.

• Be enthusiastic and enjoy working outdoors and being with children.

• Come with ideas for summer activities and a willingness to participate and lead activities.

• Provide guidance, support, and motivation to all campers.

• Communicate with guardians of campers, providing updates where required and answering questions about camp.

Salary (depending on experience) and Hours:

Recreation Leader / Senior Recreation Leader $18.95 - $25.34

Recreation Specialist I/II (Group Leads) $22.94 - $30.66

This is a part-time position.  Hours will range from 19 to 37 hours per week with no weekend shifts.

What You’ll Do

• Support the preparation, implementation, and monitoring of a comprehensive risk-based emergency management and community preparedness program.
• Prepare and maintain municipal emergency operations plans, annexes, appendixes, checklists, and other supporting documentation.
• Respond to the Emergency Operations Center when it is activated.
• Design and administer communication plans to enable effective municipal and community response to a disaster situation.
• Continually monitor and assess municipalities’ training programs and research methods to increase community outreach.
• Maintain records of findings and corrective actions identified through After-Action Reports/Improvement Plans, and coordinate development of multiyear Training and Exercise Plans.
• Produce training materials, including written documents, electronic media, and videos; maintain materials, such as props, slides, videos, films, and other educational documents; set up and operate appropriate and different audiovisual equipment. Develop working relationships with and make presentations to representatives of municipal departments, as well as other public and private support relief agencies, businesses, schools, homeowners, non-governmental organizations (NGO’s) and other community groups regarding emergency services.
• Participate in the budget preparation and administration; prepare cost estimates and revenue projections for budget recommendations for designated accounts; submit justifications of program and related activities; monitor and control expenditures.
• Participate in specialized training, conferences and seminars as available and appropriate to maintain technical knowledge.
• Compile and analyze data; prepare reports and make recommendations on the formulation of policy and procedures, EOC and division staffing and organizational changes.
• Participate in administering contracts including those relating to grant projects; monitor programs for compliance with applicable regulations.
• Coordinate and conduct interagency training sessions on NIMS, ICS, and other emergency management topics for municipal personnel to establish and operate an Emergency Operations Center (EOC); maintain records of NIMS/ICS training in compliance with state and federal guidelines.
• Provide oversight and program delivery of the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Program.
• Develop training curricula/plans, coordinate logistics, promote and deliver public education programs to civic organizations, religious institutions, businesses, and residents.
• Design, develop and deliver a variety of disaster exercises designed to test elements of the municipalities’ emergency capabilities according to Homeland Security Exercise and Evaluation Program guidance.
• Support facilitation of stakeholders in exercise planning meetings.
• Assist in the development of goals and objectives for the emergency management program.
