Woodside Fire Protection District offers an exceptional Cadet Program for individuals interested in a career in the Fire Service. Cadets gain hands-on experience participating in training and public service events. Cadets work 24-hour shifts and ride-along on emergency calls.

Woodside Cadets will work and be involved in:

Emergency calls, firefighter training, public education events, fire prevention, station duties, CERPP, CPR/first aid training. They must also meet monthly hour requirements and attend monthly training drills.

The Cadet term begins in July 1st 2026 through June 30th 2027.

The Parks, Recreation & Community Services Manager – Senior Services is responsible for leading the operations, programs, services, and community engagement efforts that support Redwood City’s older adult population. This position oversees a broad range of senior services, including recreation programming, wellness initiatives, social services coordination, special events, facility operations, partnerships, and community outreach, while helping ensure the City’s brand new 45,000 square foot senior center continues to be a welcoming, active, inclusive, and responsive community space.

This role provides leadership and oversight for the day-to-day operations of senior services programs and facilities, including staff supervision, budget administration, program development, strategic planning, contract management, and customer service delivery. The Manager works collaboratively across City departments and with community organizations, regional agencies, volunteers, and service providers to support programs and services that enhance quality of life, social connection, health, and lifelong learning opportunities for older adults.

The Manager also serves as a key liaison to community stakeholders and the Senior Affairs commission, helps guide long-range planning efforts related to aging services and ensures programs and services reflect the evolving needs of Redwood City’s diverse senior community. Responsibilities include overseeing operational logistics, evaluating program effectiveness, supporting staff development, and maintaining strong partnerships that advance the City’s commitment to accessible and high-quality community services.

PART TIME SENIOR RECREATION LEADER

SUMMARY DESCRIPTION: Under the direction of an assigned supervisor/coordinator, the Senior Recreation Leader is responsible for implementing programs at a given site, including administering program curriculum and supervising program staff. This is an at-will, intermittent, part-time, hourly wage position without City-paid benefits. Some evening and weekend work may be required.

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES: The following duties are typical for this classification. Incumbents may not perform all of the listed duties and/or may be required to perform additional or different duties from those set forth below to address business needs and changing business practices.

1. Implement all daily activities of a given program, including administration of program curriculum, leading program activities, monitoring and enforcing program rules and regulations, maintaining a safe environment and collecting any necessary paperwork.

2. Instruct program participants in rules, model appropriate behavior, monitor strict adherence to program guidelines and enforce rules.

3. Exercise sound judgment in addressing behavior problems.

4. Responsible for appropriate use, maintenance and storage of all program supplies and equipment.

5. Establish and maintain a respectful and courteous working relationship with participants, volunteers, staff and those contacted in the course of work.

6. Exhibit enthusiasm and support for the program.

7. Assist with training and directing staff and volunteers to ensure program activities are accomplished.

8. Provide information and open communication with appropriate individuals.

QUALIFICATIONS: The following generally describes the knowledge and ability required to enter the job and/or be learned within a short period of time in order to successfully perform the assigned duties.

Knowledge of: Recreation programs and curriculum Ability to: Work assigned program hours. Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing and understand and carry out oral and written directions. Learn pertinent City rules, policies, ordinances and program requirements. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted during the course of work. Understand and follow oral and written instructions.

Education: the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

Minimum qualifications: Possession of high school diploma or GED certificate.

Education/Training: First Aid and CPR training. Experience: One (1) year of progressively responsible recreation or program administration experience AND prior experience working with age appropriate groups (children through adults).

License or Certificate: Possession of a valid California Driver License. Possession of a valid First Aid and CPR certificate.

The City of San Bruno Fire Department offers an exciting opportunity to serve as a Fire Cadet. Our one-year Fire Cadet program is an unpaid, volunteer work experience program that offers hands-on training, and introductory knowledge of firefighting skills, fire service tools and equipment. Cadets respond to emergency calls, render Basic Life Support and participate in training, and participate in the daily station duties.

Cadets must be willing to commit to 24-hour shifts, two to four times per month. The cadet program is one year in length. Upon completion, this program meets the manipulative training and experience requirements in obtaining a California State Fire Marshal’s Office Firefighter II certification.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

• State of California EMT certification
• Possession of a valid driver’s license and a driving record with minimal violations
• Possession of a Firefighter I Academy certification (or proof of “student in good standing” letter signed by an Academy Instructor if currently enrolled)
• 18 years of age at the time of application

This position will report directly to the Recreation Program Coordinator or Recreation Program Supervisor and will work various hours throughout the week, including evenings and weekends

DEFINITION

Under direct supervision, a Recreator I performs assigned tasks which serve the public use of municipal recreation facilities and performs other related duties as required.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

Open and close facilities following established guidelines, set up equipment needed for facility programs, perform routine maintenance and clean up for assigned facilities, collect fees for facility use, maintain order and discipline in assigned facilities and programs by enforcing City and Departmental policies, may assist in assigned program areas, may supervise volunteers or court workers as assigned, and maintain accurate records and reports.  May include specific assignments such as cashiering, attending to locker rooms, aiding with swim instruction, staffing facilities used by the public, and assisting with recreational programming.  Other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge of: General facility operations, basic lesson instruction techniques for an assigned area, and safety practices for assigned programs.

Ability to: Follow written and oral instructions, meet and communicate effectively with members of the public, and carry out assignments requiring average physical strength such as setting up tables and chairs.  Learn and progress in this position, direct others, understand and enforce written and oral rules, regulations and policies, solve minor disciplinary problems, interact positively and cooperate with co-workers, respond politely to customers, work as a team member, function under demanding time pressure, respond in a positive manner to supervision, and attend work and perform duties on a regular and consistent basis.

Experience:  No previous work experience is required; however experience in working or volunteering with people is desirable.

Education: Successful completion of ninth grade.

License: Possession of a valid Class C California Driver’s License is desirable.

Monitor youth sports programs within the facilities; address participant and parent concerns; provide lead direction to sports officials. Routinely adhere to and maintain a positive attitude toward City and Department goals.

Knowledge Of:

Basic office/customer service skills (answering phone calls, talking to patrons etc.)

Emphasis Two: LIFEGUARD:

Example of Duties:

Educate patrons in water safety, provide patrons with a safe aquatic environment, perform lifeguard secondary duties, and instruct swim lessons. Promote aquatic programs, assisting senior guard, and aquatics assistant. Conduct rescue operations and administer CPR and First Aid. Direct communication and contact with swimmers and the public.

Knowledge of:

Basic child guidance principles and practices. General techniques of various swim strokes.

Ability to:

Be active, lift and/or carry equipment and supplies. Work in a leadership role with children and adults

Certification:

Possession of an American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification is required to work in Aquatics area as a lifeguard. Possession of an American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor Certification is desirable to work in the Aquatics area as swim instructor. 

Emphasis Three: YOUTH PROGRAM LEADER:

Assists in preparing instructional, craft, and other materials; participates in, and encourages, play activities with the children; may assist in providing tutorial and/or remedial activities in small groups. THE DEPARTMENT

The South San Francisco Public Library is a full-service library committed to delivering quality services to a diverse community.  Library services are available at three sites, including the Main Library (901 Civic Campus Way), the Grand Avenue Library (306 Walnut Avenue) and the Gene Mullin Community Learning Center (520 Tamarack Lane).  Lifelong literacy services are provided by Project Read at the Main Library and the Gene Mullin Community Learning Center (GMCLC).
