THE POSITION:

Under general supervision, the Shelter Volunteer Coordinator assists in the planning, organization, implementation and review of the Animal Care Volunteer Program; assists with recruiting, training, scheduling and evaluation of volunteer staff; performs community liaison functions, coordinates public relations activities; humane education programs and performs related work as required.

 

You are:

The ideal candidate will have prior experience as a volunteer coordinator working in an animal shelter. The candidate will have experience handling shelter animals and be able to train volunteers how to safely handle animals. The candidate will have experience in volunteer program development as well as the ability to analyze volunteer program data for retention. The ideal candidate will have some experience using the Chameleon software for animal management.  

 

 

 

Essential Duties

What you will do: 
Duties may include but are not limited to the following:

• Recruits, interviews, recommends, orients, trains and evaluates volunteers; schedules their daily work assignments and activities to assure maximum program coverage and effectiveness; 
• Ensures that all departmental procedures are followed. 
• Under direction from the Animal Services Administrator, responds to volunteer complaints and conflicts that may arise. 
• Maintains a system for tracking volunteer program hours, schedules, skills and abilities, as well as performance measures. 
• Maintains and physically organizes volunteer work areas, files and records. 
• Prepares annual report on volunteer hours and activities.
• Under  general direction, develops and implements policies and procedures for implementing various volunteer, shelter and community programs; works with Animal Services Bureau Administrator to identify needs and opportunities for utilization of unpaid staff, and to design programs to fill those needs.
• Designs and develops training and orientation programs in a variety of areas including volunteer program procedures, applicable laws and department policies, techniques for dealing effectively with the public, and the proper and humane handling of animals. 
• Assists with production and update of volunteer training manuals and volunteer job descriptions. 
• Coordinates ongoing training opportunities for volunteers to enhance their skills and keep them engaged; implements a system to provide volunteers with consistent recognition to increase volunteer retention. 
• Coordinates volunteer meetings and annual Volunteer Recognition event. 
• Coordinates and attends meetings with Volunteer Coordinators from other Animal Care Services and volunteer organizations in the Bay Area.
• Maintains good communication with volunteer staff through personal contact, email and newsletters to keep volunteers apprised of changes, accomplishments and opportunities. 
• Represents the Bureau's various programs to the public and news media through public service announcements, conferences, outreach events and personal contacts with community leaders. 
• Provides Humane Education presentations to local groups, schools and civic organizations.
• Assists with gathering and review of articles for volunteer produced quarterly "All Fur Love" community newsletter. 
• Coordinates the acquisition and distribution of Animal Services Bureau Volunteer uniforms.
• Coordinates and oversees volunteer planning committees for events and fundraisers.
• Performs other essential duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

You have: 
Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying.  A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

Experience: Two (2) years progressively responsible experience in volunteer program management, public relations, project management or similar field. At least one (1) year of professional animal handling experiences is highly desired.

Education: Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth (12th) grade. Education and coursework related to Public Administration, Animal Behavior, and Veterinary Office Assisting or similar is highly desired.

License: Possess and maintain a valid California Class C Driver's License.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS 
Essential duties require the mental and/or physical ability to: work in a standard office environment and use standard office equipment and current software including power point; work in a field environment in various weather conditions; grasp, perform repetitive hand movements and fine coordination to prepare documents and data using a computer keyboard and mouse/trackball; sit for prolonged periods of time; walk, stand, crouch, reach, twist, turn, kneel, bend, squat, stoop, and safely lift and move equipment and material weighing up to 50 pounds; converse by telephone, by email, in person, and to small or large groups and be clearly understood; read and comprehend legal, technical, and complex documents, interact with the public and all different levels of City staff in and effective and professional manner; not have any serious allergies or fears of animals, and safely drive to various locations throughout the City and County to fulfill assigned duties and to conduct work outdoors. Woodside Fire Protection District offers an exceptional Cadet Program for individuals interested in a career in the Fire Service. Cadets gain hands-on experience participating in training and public service events. Cadets work 24-hour shifts and ride-along on emergency calls.

Woodside Cadets will work and be involved in:

Emergency calls, firefighter training, public education events, fire prevention, station duties, CERPP, CPR/first aid training. They must also meet monthly hour requirements and attend monthly training drills.

The Cadet term begins in July 1st 2025 through June 30th 2026.

Cadets must have a valid EMT certification, proof of medical insurance and a valid California driver license in order to apply.

The Department

The City’s Volunteer Fire Department is older than the City itself, founded as a volunteer corps in 1861 to replace a U.S. Army fire brigade. The largest volunteer urban Fire Department in California has undergone change to become a combination department, composed of both paid and volunteer staff. In addition, the department provides Advance Life Support (ALS) services and responds to over 3,000 calls for service annually. Staffing includes a Fire Chief, one Deputy Chief, one Fire Marshal, six Fire Captains, six Fire Engineers, an Administrative Assistant and 10 Reserve Volunteer Firefighters. Dispatch is staffed through the Public Safety Dispatch Center housed at the Police Department. Ambulance services are handled through a countywide contract. The Suisun City Department responds to fire, emergency and medical calls, as well as attaching units to wildland strike teams, when possible.

The Position

The ideal candidate will be a team-oriented problem-solver with a focus on public service. Recruits enter a training program to develop skills necessary to demonstrate abilities to respond to emergency fire and medical alarms, to protect life and property, to participate in fire suppression training and emergency medical training, to assist with station, apparatus and equipment maintenance, and to do related work as required. Volunteers are required to participate in a minimum of two 24 hour shifts or four 12 hour day shifts each month and complete assigned training.

Danville Poet Laureate

The Town Council created the Poet Laureate position in September 2008 to serve as a public advocate for the appreciation and advancement of the literary arts, particularly poetry, reading poetry for civic events and dedications.

Responsibilities

The responsibilities of the Poet Laureate include the following:

(a)       create and read poetry for civic events and activities, as invited by the Town Council;

(b)       serve as a liaison between the Arts Commission and local literary organizations; and,

(c)       act as a resource on the topic of poetry.

Qualifications

Candidates must meet the following qualifications:  Danville resident; age 18 or older; author of published poetry or willingness to publish poetry during the term, if selected; and, affiliation with literary organizations is preferred, but not required.

Term of Office

The term of office of the Poet Laureate is two (2) years, unless otherwise determined by the Town Council. 

Compensation

The Poet Laureate does not receive compensation for their services or attendance at meetings and events.

The Poet Laureate must be a resident of the Town of Danville.

THE JOB

Instruct children and young adults (primarily 4-17 years of age) in beginning to intermediate soccer camp. Class content should provide basic and/or more advanced game mechanics, strategies, and the rules of soccer, depending on the student level of the skill. Class must emphasize the importance of good sportsmanship and team play. The goal is to have fun and develop a skill.

Salary Range: Variable - Based on number of participants 

Schedule: Work Schedule to be determined through mutual agreement with Parks and Recreation Director. 

ESSENTIAL POSITION FUNCTIONS

• To provide, organization, leading, and instructing individuals and groups in sports programs.
• Provides encouragement to participants and provides a positive atmosphere for play.
• Supervise and implement safe practices as it relates to participants, programs, and facilities. 
• Implement lesson plans to be provided by the City.
• Maintains rosters and City forms.

The Department

The Human Services Department (HSD) delivers and supports services by forging long-term community partnerships; engaging with and building the capacity of the community to do its own problem-solving; and leveraging financial and volunteer resources.

The Position

The Clinical Supervisor will provide clinical and administrative leadership to the Aging and Family Services Division. The mission of the Aging and Family Services Division is to foster a high quality of life for older adults through its Senior Support Services. The Senior Support Services employs a team of caring professionals from diverse backgrounds which include social workers, a public health nurse, counselors, and peers who will work closely with other department staff to provide cohesive wrap-around services for older adults and their families.

Examples of Job Duties

• Develop and maintain systems necessary to support effective and efficient Senior Support Programs. This includes the responsibilities of: supervising a multi-disciplinary team; monitoring contractual and billing procedures; electronic charting requirements; working with other providers and referral organizations; utilization review and methods for integrating the work of the Aging and Family Services Division and Human Services Department.

Program Assistant - Receptionist

Salary Range: $18.52 - $30.68/hour, depending on experience.

DEFINITION

Perform a wide variety of general clerical and/ or operational support duties at the Danville Community Center and/ or Senior Center. Incumbent serves as the facility receptionist, assisting with customer service-related questions and issues, and directing callers and visitors according to established procedures.
 

• This is a part-time temporary, non-benefitted position.
• 0-20 hours per week; not-to-exceed 950 hours per calendar year.

SUPERVISION

Direct supervision is received from the Administrative Assistant with indirect supervision from the Recreation Superintendent. May exercise supervision of part-time personnel and volunteers as assigned.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES

Essential duties are inclusive of, but not limited to the following:

• Serve as first point of contact with the public; responds to information requests regarding services, classes, and events offered by the Town by email, in person or over the phone.
• Perform a wide variety of routine office duties to support department operations including filing, preparing basic reports, and program registration.
• Register participants, and support facility reservations using Active Net software.
• Performs cash handling duties, process payments, and issue receipts. 
• Assist in proofreading the Activity Guide and other marketing materials.
• Communicate with a variety of department staff to resolve customer inquiries.
• Provide support on special projects, and perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Must be able to handle multiple tasks, have strong computer skills and excellent customer service skills. Must be able to work a flexible schedule throughout the year.
