The City of Pacifica is currently recruiting for a Mechanic to join our team in the Public Works Department. Under general supervision, the Mechanic will make major and minor mechanical repairs on various kinds of gasoline and diesel-powered equipment.

DEFINITION
Under general supervision, to make major and minor mechanical repairs on various kinds of gasoline and diesel-powered equipment; and to do related work as required.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTION REQUIREMENTS
Ability to drive and possess a valid California Operator’s license for the type of equipment driven (Class B); ability to work in a variety of confined spaces and positions, and work outside in inclement weather; ability to do heavy lifting; ability to perform work that is labor intensive with considerable bending and stooping and repetitive shoulder, arm and hand motions; must have a great deal of finger dexterity; ability to distinguish color of wires; ability to read and understand written work orders and shop manuals, and communicate with various division employees, parts houses and vendors in order to obtain parts and effect repairs. Within six (6) months of hire, possess and maintain brake certification.
Basic Examples of Duties
Duties may include, but are not limited to the following:
- Inspects, diagnoses and repairs mechanical defects in automobiles, trucks, graders, rollers, and a variety of diesel and gasoline-powered equipment tears down motors and performs general overhauling; repairs transmissions, differentials, carburetors, distributors, fuel pumps, lights, steering gears, starters, alternators, universal joints, sirens, and hydraulic systems; aligns wheels, adjusts brakes; repairs auxiliary equipment such as hydraulic pumps and motors; builds specialized equipment; installs batteries, tires, wiring, automatic electronic systems, and brakes; welds and cuts with electric and acetylene; occasionally makes emergency repairs out of the shop.
