The Department 

The Public Works department is comprised of the Maintenance, Engineering and WQCP (Water Quality Control Plant) divisions. The Maintenance Division is responsible for all of the asphalt and concrete streets within the City as well as all of the associated signalized intersections, streetlights, road signs and traffic markings.  The division also maintains the sanitary sewer/storm system which includes all of the sanitary sewer lines, all of the storm lines and catch basins, several storm water pump stations, as well as various large storm water trash capture devices throughout the City.

THE POSITION

Under close to general supervision, this hourly position is responsible for cleaning and maintaining the downtown corridor, including the removal of litter, debris, and illegal dumping. Duties are primarily driven by SeeClickFix service requests and may include other related maintenance and cleaning tasks as assigned.
 

IDEAL CANDIDATE 

The ideal candidate will have experience with outdoor maintenance work and be familiar with basic tools, equipment, and safety practices related to cleaning and debris removal in public spaces. They will take pride in keeping high-visibility areas clean and welcoming, respond promptly to service requests (such as those submitted through SeeClickFix), and interact professionally with the public and City staff. The ideal candidate will be reliable, self-motivated, and able to work independently or as part of a team, using sound judgment while following established safety procedures.

 

TYPICAL DUTIES (may include but are not limited to the following):

• Conduct daily cleaning and maintenance of the City’s downtown corridor, ensuring all public areas are free of litter and debris.
• Efficiently empty, clean and service all City owned trash receptacles, adhering to waste disposal and sanitation standards.
• Respond to requests for service in real time via smart device.
• Uses a variety of hand and power tools in connection with the above duties; operates light, motorized equipment, such as pick-ups, flatbeds, and dump trucks.
• Identify and report maintenance issues, safety hazards or vandalism during routine duties to appropriate City personnel.
• Performs related duties and responsibilities as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS: Any combination of experience and training that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities would be qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge, skills, and abilities would be:

Experience: One year of experience in general construction or maintenance work.

Training: Equivalent to graduation from high school.

GENERAL INFO  
  

Under general supervision, the Lifeguard/Swim Instructor I/II performs routine public contact and safety work in serving as a pool lifeguard. They also provide essential support to recreation programs and services by performing custodial tasks, event setup and teardown, program support, and minor maintenance duties relating to aquatics. This temporary, parttime position requires working up to 20 hours per week. The role involves ensuring the health and safety of aquatic patrons, facilities are clean, safe, and operational while delivering excellent customer service. Performs other duties as assigned.   

 

UNIVERSAL POSITION DUTIES (Applicable to all roles; Illustrative Purposes Only)  

Monitor the swimming pool and enforce safety regulations.  

Assist with aquatics programs, special events, and facility upkeep.  

Test and maintain pool water chemistry.  

Set up and tear down for classes, programs, and events.  

Lift and move up to 50 pounds regularly, and occasionally up to 100 pounds.

About the role:                   

The Parks, Recreation & Community Services Manager – Arts & Events is responsible for overseeing the City’s signature community events, cultural programming, and public art initiatives that celebrate Redwood City’s diverse community and vibrant downtown. This position manages the planning, coordination, and production of a wide range of public events including festivals, concerts, cultural celebrations, and arts programming that bring people together and foster community pride.

In addition to event management, this role provides critical support to the Director of Parks, Recreation, and Community Services on all public art initiatives. The Arts and Events Manager serve as the staff liaison to the Arts Commission, manages website content related to the Commission and public art, and leads the implementation and updating of the City’s Public Art Master Plan. The position also ensures compliance with the Percent for Art Ordinance, including public art permit application management, maintaining detailed records of all art in public places (45.070 Section C), and overseeing the recognition and promotion of public art throughout the city.

The Arts and Events Manager collaborate closely with the Economic Development Manager and works with developers as new commercial projects over 50,000 square feet come on board, ensuring compliance with public art requirements.

More broadly, this role involves negotiating, preparing, and managing contracts and agreements with vendors, performers, artists, and community partners, while ensuring compliance with City policies and maintaining strong inter-agency collaboration.

San Mateo County Health is seeking a well-qualified individual for the position of Social Work Supervisor - Aging & Disability Services (ADS) – Supportive Services. Social Work Supervisors plan, assign, review, and evaluate the work of a team of Social Workers, a Community Worker and Public Health Nurses. The Social Work Supervisor provides directions to staff on casework concepts, methods and procedures, provisions of services, and departmental policies and procedures under direction of a Health Services Manager.

The Social Work Supervisor position is located within ADS’ Supportive Services unit, which includes the Enhanced Care Management (ECM), Partners for Independence (PFI), and In-Home Supportive Services (IHSS) programs. In addition to overseeing operations and providing supervision to Social Workers in Supportive Services programs, the supervisor will assist with the on-going integration of California Advancing and Innovating Medi-Cal’s (CalAIM) ECM and Community Supports programs, working closely with the Health Plan of San Mateo (HPSM) – a Managed Care Plan for San Mateo County Medi-Cal recipients. In collaboration with key stakeholders, the supervisor will facilitate and refine care management and care coordination services to promote a seamless continuum of care within a whole-person centered care model.

The ECM and PFI program serve adult clients who need assistance managing complex medical and psychosocial needs, linking to community resources, and coordinating in-home care to safely remain in the community. The team conducts home and other field visits to assess clients’ psychosocial and safety needs engaging clients in the creation of appropriate case planning, care coordination and management goals.

This full-time position follows a Monday - Friday, 8am-5pm schedule, working in both South San Francisco and San Mateo offices. It is anticipated that the position will primarily work in the office during the probationary period, but include hybrid work accordingly. Office requirements include four on-site workdays to align with operational needs and County requirements.

The ideal candidate will possess the following:

• Strong leadership skills to direct the work of and motivate a team of Social Workers, Public Health Nurses and Community Workers.

This recruitment is for one (1) Manager position in the Assessment, Inventory & Modeling (AIM) Division. This is an open recruitment for one (1) full-time, exempt, management position. 

About the Position
Under administrative direction, the position manages the Air Quality Modeling and Analysis (AQM&A) Section in the AIM Division. The manager is responsible for: maintaining a positive work environment within the AQM&A Section to promote a culture of excellence; directing the development and evaluation of air quality modeling analyses at both regional and local scales, including modeling assessment of potential health impacts from various air pollutants and emission sources; with support from AIM Division staff, developing, evaluating, and reporting modeling-based assessments of community exposure and health impacts from air pollution; interacting with the Board of Directors, Advisory Council, and Air District management and staff on air quality modeling assessments; and performing related work as assigned.

Incumbents in this class make decisions that have impacts on daily operations and implementation of established procedures and policies and solve problems requiring analyses of issues that may result in deviations from routine processes, new technology, and additional resources.  Incumbents make recommendations for program planning and directing, as well as organizing new and future resource needs.

About the Division
The Assessment, Inventory, and Modeling (AIM) Division prepares comprehensive source emission inventories for the Bay Area and conducts air quality modeling at both regional and community scales. AIM prepares technical assessments that evaluate equity in air pollution exposures and health impacts in support of Air District programs. AIM coordinates and implements programs to improve and report estimates of emissions of criteria pollutants, toxic air contaminants, and climate forcing pollutants. AIM maintains the Bay Area photochemical grid modeling platform and functions, developed and analyze modeled concentrations, exposures of toxic air contaminants, particulate matter, ozone and their precursors, to support targeted strategies that reduce impacts of air pollution both regionally and within communities, especially where Assembly Bill (AB) 617 community action plans are being developed and implemented. AIM reviews and provides guidance on environmental health risk assessments within environmental review documents prepared pursuant to California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA).

The incumbent will assume responsibility for leading and managing multiple programs and functional areas within the AIM Division and assisting the Division Director in implementing the Air District’s policies and best practices, as well as making decisions regarding program planning, project prioritization, and staff resources allocation. The incumbent will also lead or support collaborative projects across Divisions and provide technical assessments of modeled air pollutant concentrations and health risk associated with stationary and mobile sources.

Develops and implements goals, objectives, policies, procedures, and work standards for the assigned programs, especially those related to regional and local air quality modeling, to support the Air District’s regulation and policy development and implementation.

Directs, organizes, assigns, reviews, and evaluates the work of assigned staff; selects and trains staff and provides for their professional development.

Directs the preparation, maintenance, verification, and reconciliation of a wide variety of reports.

Develops, reviews, and recommends improved methods and procedures; directs the team in using appropriate modeling analysis approaches and project/task management tools.

Directs the maintenance of and maintains accurate records; prepares clear and concise reports, correspondence and other written materials.

Analyzes technical data and problems, prepares and presents reports and recommendations regarding operational and policy issues to the Board, various committees, and other Air District groups.

Analyzes and reviews local, state, and federal legislation to determine its impact on the Air District.

Responds to requests for public information regarding the Air District's policies, procedures and operations.

Represents the Air District and assists the Director/Officer as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

A typical way to obtain the knowledge and skills is:

Equivalent to graduation from a four (4) year college or university with major coursework in a job related field, including atmospheric and environmental science, environmental modeling, or environmental engineering, and four (4) years of professional level work experience preferably in a public agency, of which at least two (2) years were at a supervisory level. Some positions may require specialized training, education and experience.

Typical duties include, but are not limited to:

• Support the Assistant City Manager or his/her designee with the financial oversight and analysis of the $3.5 million annual budget for the City’s Homelessness Initiatives.
• Comply with state, county, and private grant requirements including cost allocations and documentation of Homelessness Initiatives Program expenditures by contracted service providers, strengthening of reporting systems.
• Manage grants from inception through close out, ensuring that best practices are followed, and spend down is maximized.
• Create annual budgets and budgets for proposals, complete budget modifications, and monitor actual expenditures versus budget.
• Prepare grant invoices and financial reports.
• Prepare financial reports for the City’s Homelessness Initiatives.
• Monitor and track budget, revenue, and expenditures for Homelessness Initiatives within the City’s financial system and with City’s Finance Staff.

Education and experience:

Obtaining a Master’s degree in Library Science from an ALA accredited school and at least three years professional library experience in a public library setting including some supervisory experience. 

 

PHYSICAL, MENTAL, AND ENVIRONMENTAL WORKING CONDITIONS

Ability to work in a standard library environment; ability to stoop, sit, stand, walk, kneel, crouch, squat, reach, and twist, climb stairs; ability to use independent judgement and initiative. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and push/pull up to 100 pounds.
