THE POSITION

To perform a variety of semi-skilled and skilled tasks in the construction, maintenance, and repair of water lines, sewers, storm drains, and pump stations. 

 

The purpose of this recruitment is to fill multiple vacancies in both the Water Distribution Division and the Sanitary Sewer/Storm Drainage Systems Divisions of the Public Works Department, as well as establish an eligibility list for future vacancies.  Initial position/assignment and salary of the selected candidate will be based on previous work experience and valid licenses/certificates. 

 

IDEAL CANDIDATE

The City of Woodland is looking to fill multiple Utilities Maintenance Worker I/II positions in the Public Works Department.  The Ideal Candidate for the current vacancy is someone who has a good understanding of all aspects of underground utilities maintenance and repairs and is familiar with the operation of light and heavy equipment.  This position requires a “team player” with good interpersonal, time management, and communication skills.  Candidate must be able to follow direction and display good judgment, as well as be organized, flexible, approachable, resourceful, and a positive team contributor.  Current and valid distribution certifications and Class A/B commercial driver’s license are highly desirable.

 

Utilities Maintenance Worker I:

This is the entry level class in the Utilities Maintenance Worker series. The Utilities Maintenance Worker I often performs many of the duties required of Utilities Maintenance Worker II but is not expected to have the depth of experience, skill level and certifications of the Utilities Maintenance Worker II. As a result, the Utilities Maintenance Worker I will have fewer opportunities to exercise independent discretion and judgment on matters related to work procedures and methods.

 

Utilities Maintenance Worker II:

This is the journey level in the Utilities Maintenance Worker series. This class differs from Utilities Maintenance Worker I in that incumbents perform more complex maintenance duties including working independently, exercising judgment, and operating the full range of tools and mechanical equipment related to a specific assignment. The Utilities Maintenance Worker II may also be expected to assist in the oversight and training of less experienced personnel. Positions in this class are flexibly staffed and are normally filled by advancement from level I, or by candidates with prior work experience elsewhere.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS 

The following are typical illustrations of duties encompassed by the job class; this is not an all-inclusive or limiting list:

Operate a variety of light and moderately heavy construction and maintenance equipment such as a loader, dump truck, water truck, steel rollers, High Velocity Vacuum Cleaner, mole trencher, and rubber-tired tractor with all attachments; Operate a forklift as assigned and trained; Perform general maintenance and repair on water distribution and/or storm and wastewater collection facilities including (but not limited to) installation, testing, and backfill of service laterals

Sanitary Sewer/Storm Assignments

Use the Closed-Circuit Television Truck, sewer cable machine, flush sewer laterals and mains, assist in sewer tap installations, clean storm drain lines and catch basins.

Water Distribution Assignments

Assist in water tap installations; Install, remove, and repair water meters, hydrants, service valves, and mainline valves.

All Utilities Maintenance Worker I/II

Operate equipment and vehicles with possession of all necessary licenses and certificates; Take meter and gauge readings; Accurately maintain records and reports; Utilize proper safety precautions related to all performed work; Comply with the policies and procedures in the department Injury & Illness Prevention Program (IIPP); Regular, predictable, consistent and timely attendance is an essential function of the position, in that the employee must be present to work on facilities and equipment impacting on the public’s health and safety

 

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS 

Respond to inquiries from the general public; Prepare as-built sketches when required to convey information to engineering for graphic documentation; Check water meters for proper operation; Troubleshoot registers and repair as necessary; Initiate and discontinue water service to customer accounts as directed; Operate telemetering and flow monitoring equipment; Work cooperatively with others; Perform related duties as assigned; Both assignments will require employees to be “On Call” as needed

 

QUALIFICATIONS

Utilities Maintenance Worker I

Education: 

• Requires a High School Diploma or equivalent. 

Experience:

• Requires at least one (1) year of experience in construction or related field.

 

License and Certificate: 

Sanitary Sewer/Storm Assignments

• Grade I Wastewater Collections System Maintenance certificate issued by California Water Environment Association upon permanent employment

 

Water Distribution Assignments

• Possession of a California State Drinking Water Operator Certification Program (DWOCP) Grade I Water Distribution Operator (D1) upon permanent employment

 

All Utilities Maintenance Worker I/II

• Possession of a valid California Driver's License
• Class B Driver’s permit and DMV Medical Certification are required within three (3) months of hire

 

Prior to Permanent Appointment Employee Must Obtain:

Education:

• Courses in, or graduation from, the American Public Works Association’s Public Works Institute is desirable.

License and Certificate:

Sanitary Sewer/Storm Drainage Systems Assignment

• Requires possession of Grade II Wastewater Collections System Maintenance certificate issued by California Water Environment Association within 18 months of hire.
• A Pipeline Assessment and Certification Program certificate issued by the National Association of Sewer System Companies (NASSCO) is desirable.

 

Water Distribution Assignments

THE POSITION

To perform a variety of tasks in the maintenance of City-owned buildings, equipment and facilities.  The purpose of the recruitment is to fill a current vacancy at the Woodland Community & Senior Center (primary duties focus on event setups and janitorial duties/oversight), as well as establish an eligibility list for future vacancies.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Maintain and repair City buildings, equipment and facilities by performing a variety of semi-skilled carpentry, plumbing, painting, heating/air conditioning, mechanical repair and electrical work as necessary.  Inspect City buildings to locate conditions indicating the need for repairs and maintenance; assist in establishing and implementing preventative maintenance programs.  Operate and maintain a variety of heavy tools and equipment, including small power and hand tools.  Work cooperatively with others.  Regular and consistent attendance. 

 

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Assist in the operation of the Water Pollution Control Facility to ensure compliance with State regulations. Interpret alarms, meters, gauges, SCADA system and test results to determine process and control criteria.  Perform routine maintenance and repair work on pumps, valves, Ultraviolet Disinfection equipment and filtration equipment.  Participate in ongoing preventative maintenance program and accurately maintain and compile records and reports.  Work weekends and holidays as assigned.  Regular and consistent attendance required.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Position requires sitting, standing, walking on level, uneven and slippery surfaces, reaching, twisting, turning, kneeling, bending, stooping, squatting, crouching, grasping and making repetitive hand movements in the performance of daily duties. The position also requires both near and far vision when operating assigned equipment. Acute hearing is required in both the field and the office. The ability to lift, carry and push tools, equipment and supplies weighing up to 70 pounds, such as a jackhammer, is also required. Additionally, the incumbent in this outdoor position works in all weather conditions, including wet, heat, and cold. The incumbent may be exposed to fumes, dust chemicals, biohazard materials and air contaminants. The nature of the work may also require the incumbent to climb ladders, use power and noise producing tools and equipment, work in confined spaces, drive motorized vehicles and work in heavy vehicle traffic conditions. Maintenance Worker III is an advanced journey-level position responsible for operating a variety of light construction equipment in support of Valley Water’s maintenance and construction projects. This role provides agency-wide support for work on creeks, ponds, reservoirs, and other flood control facilities throughout the county.

Assigned to the Vegetation Field Operations Unit, this position performs a broad range of duties supporting Valley Water’s vegetation management programs. Responsibilities include vegetation control, integrated vegetation management, arboriculture, native plant revegetation, invasive plant management, and biotechnical erosion control on Valley Water properties.

This is primarily an outdoor position requiring work in varying and sometimes challenging environmental conditions, including heat, cold, and rain. Incumbents may also be required to respond to after-hours flood control emergencies, including nighttime callouts.

As a light equipment operator, the Maintenance Worker III must possess a valid Class A driver’s license to operate Valley Water commercial vehicles and to transport light equipment used in vegetation management and flood control projects. Daily equipment operation may include a compactor, water truck, tree truck and chipper, dump truck, and wheel loader. Equipment is used to haul vegetative debris, maintain native plant mitigation sites, support invasive plant management efforts, and assist with Valley Water’s sandbag operations.

This position also ultimately requires a Qualified Applicator’s Certificate (QAC) in Category C (Right-of-Way) and Category F (Aquatics) to mix and apply herbicides and calibrate spray equipment for vegetation control on Valley Water managed properties.

This role offers a hands-on opportunity to gain experience in sustainability practices, facilities operations, and process improvement within a public education setting.

The Civic Fellow will assist in assessing current district practices related to recycling, waste reduction, and resource conservation. This may include reviewing recycling programs, observing waste management practices at school sites, and identifying opportunities to improve sustainability efforts. Working closely with Maintenance, Operations, and Facilities staff, the Fellow will help research best practices and develop practical recommendations to improve environmental outcomes and operational efficiency.

This fellowship provides practical exposure to sustainability planning, facilities management, and public sector operations, equipping participants with valuable skills in research, data analysis, environmental practices, and process improvement while contributing to the district’s commitment to responsible resource management.

Receives general directions from the designated WJUSD host-site employee.

 

IDEAL CANDIDATE

The Civic Fellow should be comfortable conducting research, making observations, and working collaboratively with staff across multiple departments.

THE POSITION

To perform a variety of semi-skilled and skilled work involving the trimming, removal, installation and general maintenance of trees.  The purpose of this recruitment is to fill a current vacancy in the Community Services Department, as well as establish an eligibility list for future vacancies.

IDEAL CANDIDATE
The Ideal Candidate will possess an in-depth knowledge of practices and procedures identified by the International Society of Arboriculture (ISA) as they relate to a municipal setting. The Ideal Candidate will also possess good communication, customer service and writing skills, as well as demonstrate competence working with computers and related software, e.g., maintenance management and MS Outlook. Additionally, they will have a strong work ethic, ability to climb trees, work out of an aerial truck, be available to work overtime and perform standby duty as needed. The Ideal Candidate should have knowledge in operating chain and hand saws, operating a chipper, a background in landscaping with planting trees, and experience with setting-up and tearing-down of traffic control. The Ideal Candidate also has knowledge of safety & best management practices used in operating and maintaining tree pruning equipment and trucks.

Tree Trimmer I:
This is the entry level class in the Tree Trimmer series.  Positions in this class will usually perform most of the duties required of Tree Trimmers I and II; however, as compared to the Tree Trimmer II, is not expected to function at the same skill level and will usually exercise less independent discretion and judgment on matters related to work procedures and methods.

Tree Trimmer II:
This is the journey level class in the Tree Trimmer series.  This class differs from Tree Trimmer I in that incumbent performs more complex duties.  This incumbent Tree Trimmer II may also be expected to assist in the oversight and training of less experienced personnel.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Prune trees and shrubbery to provide clearance of streets, sidewalks, signs, and lights, and as necessary to ensure continued health of the plant.  Remove fallen trees, dead limbs, and other debris resulting from storm damage and general conditions.  Participate in the large-scale application of herbicides and pesticides.  Clean and maintain trimming equipment.  Work both independently and as a crew member in removing trees and stumps.  Plant, stake, spray and inject trees.  Operate a chipper, aerial truck, mist sprayer and miscellaneous equipment which could include routers, loaders, forklifts, and dump trucks.  Use a variety of hand tools including hand saws, pole saws, chain saws, and pole loppers.  Regular and consistent attendance.

 

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS
May perform street drainage maintenance or other public works maintenance work when not assigned to tree trimming duties.  Respond to emergency situations after regular working hours.   Perform related duties as assigned.

The City of Dixon is excited to announce the recruitment for a Public Works Director. The Public Works Director will play a critical leadership role during a period of elevated development activity and organizational transition. This position requires a hands-on leader who can maintain momentum on existing initiatives while advancing new priorities across Public Works, Engineering, and land development functions.

This is an exempt, "at-will" senior management position directly responsible to the City Manager.  Salary is negotiated within salary range depending on qualifications.

Exam Process: A limited number of candidates whose applications indicate that they, among those competing, are better qualified in terms of related education, training and experience may be invited to participate in the subsequent phase of the evaluation process which may include interviews, written exercises, or simulated work problems, after a contingent offer is made Ratification by City Council.

Position Duties:

The Department of Transportation is currently seeking to fill 1 vacancy for the Senior Heavy Equipment Operator position. The Department of Transportation (DOT) is recruiting for a Senior Heavy Equipment Operator (Senior HEO). Key responsibilities include:

Field Leadership & Supervision

• Provide frontline supervision of field crews
• Prioritize, assign, and coordinate daily work activities
• Ensure safety compliance and oversee job site operations
• Communicate with residents at project sites
• Evaluate staff performance

Operations & Project Oversight

• Supervise and participate in projects within the Pavement and Sewer divisions
• Coordinate and support emergency storm response efforts
• Maintain service levels for:
  • Emergency response
  • Pavement maintenance
  • Sanitary sewer maintenance
• Support timely sewer repairs and overall customer service goals

Programs & Compliance

• Coordinate the Heavy Equipment Operator Trainee Program
• Implement Safety and Wellness programs for Pavement and Sewer sections
• Ensure all training meets OSHA standards

Sewer & Capital Improvement Projects

• Provide field supervision for sewer repair and capital improvement projects
• Oversee a crew of approximately 14 maintenance and heavy equipment staff
• Help reduce backlog of sewer repair projects to minimize community impact

Administrative & Technical Duties

• Input data and generate reports using systems such as ACCESS and UNITY
• Support capital projects requiring heavy equipment and concrete crews, including:
  • Traffic calming improvements
  • ADA improvements
  • Median island construction
  • Traffic signal construction
• Contribute to approximately 12 large-scale projects annually

The Senior Heavy Equipment Operator may be required to work 10-hour shifts, overtime, weekends and holidays. This position may work in confined spaces.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education: Completion of high school, or General Educational Development (GED) Certificate, or California Proficiency Certificate.

Experience: Four (4) years of experience operating heavy motorized equipment such as that used in the construction trades.

Certifications/Licenses: Possession of a valid State of California Class A driver's license with applicable endorsements is required.

Selection Process: 

The selection process will consist of an evaluation of the applicant's training and experience based on the application and responses to all the job specific questions.
