The City of Dixon is currently hiring for one (1) full-time position of Senior Maintenance Worker in the Parks Division of the Public Works Department. This recruitment process will also be used to create an eligibility list for future vacancies in other divisions, including streets, buildings, or streetscapes.  Candidates who apply will be considered for the current opening in Parks, and may also be contacted for future openings in other divisions as they arise.  

This position organizes, assigns and reviews the work of assigned personnel engaged in semi-skilled and skilled tasks related to the maintenance and repair of City’s parks, buildings, streets, storm drain ponds and related facilities; performs duties requiring specialized knowledge; and provides support to assigned supervisor.

PARKS
Performs semi-skilled and skilled repair, maintenance and landscaping tasks involving City parks including irrigation system installation and maintenance; conducts playground equipment inspection, maintenance and installation; performs graffiti removal; maintains swimming pools; performs pesticide, herbicide and fungicide spraying; tree and bush trimming to avoid pedestrian traffic, obstruction of traffic signs and line-of-sight; cleans and maintains park facilities, buildings and associated facilities; oversees and coordinates the work of contractors as it relates to park and streetscapes maintenance and construction. Positions operate equipment which include, but are not limited to, mowers, spray rigs, electric, air and hydraulic powered hand tools, hedge-shears, blowers, weed eaters, backhoes, trenchers, lift buckets, scrapers, chain saws, chippers and other heavy equipment.

Summary:
Under supervision, performs routine semi-skilled to skilled grounds landscaping and maintenance work; performs preventive maintenance of District properties; and performs other related duties as assigned.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties listed below are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work that may be performed. These duties may be performed independently or under supervision with a Lead or Groundskeeper II present. • Performs a variety of routine landscape and ground maintenance tasks, including maintaining areas around District facilities, hardscapes and playgrounds, and removing debris and graffiti; maintains assigned areas in a clean, safe and orderly condition.
• Maintains turf and landscaped areas by mowing, edging and weeding; learns and assists with fertilizing, spraying with insecticides and herbicides, aerating and watering.
• Blows, sweeps and washes sidewalks, roadways, parking lots, tennis courts, and other hard­scapes to maintain a clean, safe and orderly condition.
• Assists with planting and removing trees, shrubs and plants; prunes shrubs and trees to shape and encourage growth, using hand and power saws as assigned.
• Assists with the installation, repair and maintenance of irrigation systems.
• Assists with athletic field preparation and the maintenance of play areas and related facilities.
• Operates a variety of power tools, hand tools and motor-driven equipment such as trucks and tractors.
• Loads and unloads equipment, supplies and refuse.
• Maintains daily work records, hazardous materials records and restricted pesticide-use records.
• Attends meetings; participates in safety training.
• Weekend work and rotating schedules may be required.

Other Duties and Responsibilities:

• Participates during disasters or when emergency response is needed.
• May be required to drive District or personal vehicle.
• Non-exempt employees may be required to work overtime.
• Performs related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge, skill, and/or ability listed below is qualifying.

Education/Experience:
A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be: graduation from high school or GED equivalent, and one year of related grounds maintenance experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Language Ability:
Ability to read and comprehend basic instructions, short correspondence and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to park visitors and to other employees.

Math Ability:
Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10s and 100s. Ability to perform these operations using units of money and weight measure­ment, volume and distance.

Reasoning Ability:
Ability to use common-sense understanding to carry out instructions provided in written, oral or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Certificates and Licenses:

• Valid California driver’s license with a good driving record and current automobile insurance.
• All full-time candidates require satisfactory completion of a pre-employment functional capacity examination.
• Department of Justice fingerprint clearance.

Supervisory Responsibilities:
This job has no supervisory responsibilities but may direct temporary or contract employees or provide direction to Groundskeeper I classification.

The City is currently accepting applications to fill several part-time, hourly positions to work in the theatres at the Bank of America Performing Arts Center.  Under the direction of the Technical Supervisors and the theatre department leads, the Stagehands assist with a variety of tasks related to theatre operations and maintenance.  The schedule will involve working up to 19 hours per week, depending on assignment.  The schedule includes working nights, weekends, and holidays.  On occasion, the position may involve working additional hours in a week.

To respond to fire alarms, medical emergency, and other emergency activities in the protection of life and property; and to participate in fire prevention, training and station and equipment maintenance activities.  The purpose of this recruitment is to fill a current vacancy in the Woodland Fire Department, as well as establish an eligibility list for future vacancies.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Respond to fire alarms with assigned company; lay and connect hose lines; hold nozzles and direct water streams; raise and climb ladders.  Perform rescue operations in a variety of situations including but not limited to rescuing persons from areas threatened by fire, hazardous conditions, confined space, and active shooter/rescue task force events.  Provide basic life support during medical incidents, assessing and initiating patient care until relieved by proper medical personnel. Operate all types of portable fire extinguishers, hand tools, hose lines, power tools and appliances, salvage covers, forcible entry tools, emergency medical equipment and other rescue equipment. Participate in fire drills; serve as instructor as assigned; attend training sessions. Promote and maintain safety in the workplace. OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS

Respond to hazardous materials incidents and participate as member of the County Hazardous Materials Team. Shut down natural gas and electrical services to structure.  Participate in fire inspection activities and other fire prevention, community risk reduction, and public education activities as assigned.  Ensure that businesses are operating in compliance with the fire code. Participate in the programs providing various public relations services, including facility tours, public education seminars and other public events.  Respond to inquiries from the public.  Assist in investigating fire origin and cause.  May be requested to respond to emergencies during non-duty hours.  Control traffic.  Inventory supplies; maintain records. Can serve as “acting positions” when certified.  Clean station quarters and equipment and maintain a clean and orderly condition in and about the fire station; perform minor building maintenance.  Operate radio and communications equipment.  Assist in overhaul and salvage operations.  Learn a wide variety of firefighting duties, methods, and procedures including the operation of firefighting apparatus, equipment, and tools.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Candidates hired shall refrain from the use of all tobacco products during the term of their employment with the City, including smokeless tobacco products.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education: 

High school diploma or equivalent.  College-level coursework in fire science, general management, or related field is desirable. Proof of completion of a Firefighter Academy may be required. 

Experience: 

Any experience that would likely provide the required ability is qualifying; firefighting experience is desirable.

 License or Certificate:

• Proof of valid Candidate Physical Ability Test (valid for one year from issuance date).
• Proof of validated written test completion given by recognized institution such as Fire Candidate Training Center (FCTC), the City of Woodland, or another accepted agency may be required.  

Required Upon Hire and Continued Employment:

• Possession of a valid California Driver’s License
• Emergency Medical Technician Certificate

Current Salary:                    
$6,022.68 per month ($2,779.70 bi-weekly).  Upon successful completion of the Fire Academy, candidate eligible for salary increase to $6,691.85 per month ($3,088.55 bi-weekly)

Retirement:                          
CalPERS Retirement System (3% @ 50 Formula for Classic CalPERS members and 2.7% @ 57 Formula for new CalPERS members).  The City does not participate in social security

Deferred Compensation:                   
Choice of deferred compensation plans (Traditional and Roth).  After successful completion of probation, new hires are also eligible for a 2% City Contribution.

Medical:                                
CalPERS Medical Insurance Plans, including HMOs & PPOs.  City gives an allowance toward the cost of insurance.  Maximum Family Allowance for 2025 is $2,752.96 per month

City paid Delta Dental and VSP Vision Insurance

Experience:  At least one (1) year of experience in resource management, parks & recreation, or other relevant customer service positions.

License and Certificates:  Possession of a valid California Driver's License is required upon hire.

SALARY

$19.25 - $20.25 per hour (based on years of experience)

BENEFITS

All of these positions are temporary/part time. Temporary employees work no more than 130 hours per month AND 960 hours in a Fiscal Year.

The pay cycle is bi-weekly.  Except for worker's compensation coverage and sick leave accrual, no other benefits are provided. Employees must contribute 1.45% of salary to Medicare and 7.5% to a retirement plan in accordance with Federal Law.

The City of Lincoln is hiring for a seasonal Maintenance Worker II within the Parks and Facilities Division of the Public Works Department.

The Department is looking for an individual with at least three years of responsible experience performing municipal parks maintenance. Course work and training in maintenance, agronomy, horticulture, forestry, natural resource management, electrical, plumbing, carpentry, janitorial or related field is highly desirable.  A successful candidate will have the ability to obtain a Class B Driver’s License within one year of employment.

Under general supervision, this position performs the full array of duties assigned to classes in the Maintenance Worker series including maintenance, construction and equipment operation work in one or more Public Works divisions; occasionally assists in the training of lower-level Maintenance Workers; and performs other related duties as required.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

The Maintenance Worker II is the journey level class responsible for a wide variety of maintenance and construction tasks. This classification is distinguished from the next higher classification of Senior Maintenance Worker in that the latter performs more complex assignments and lead responsibilities.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED/EXERCISED

The Maintenance Worker II receives general supervision from a Public Works Supervisor. May exercise technical and functional supervision over assigned staff. 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Include but are not limited to the following:

• Performs maintenance, repair, construction, equipment operation and installation work in parks and buildings.
• Parks and Buildings: Maintains lawns, shrubs, and trees; assists in spraying of herbicides and pesticides; cuts, sprays and removes weeds; clears brush and debris; assists with planting and maintenance of landscaped areas; installs, maintains, repairs and programs irrigation systems; cleans and maintains parks and city buildings; assists in the performance of minor carpentry, plumbing, electrical, painting and remodeling tasks.
• Fills out reports and work orders; climbs or uses hydraulic aerial devices to top, trim, reshape, strip, treat and remove trees; operates airport fueling vehicles; responds to after-hours call-outs if assigned.
• Demonstrates a full understanding of applicable policies, procedures and work methods associated with assigned duties; may provide training to lower level staff; responds to questions and concerns from the general public; provides information as is appropriate and resolves public service complaints.

PHYSICAL, MENTAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL WORKING CONDITIONS

Position requires sitting, standing, walking on level and slippery surfaces, reaching, twisting, turning, kneeling, bending, stooping, squatting, crouching, grasping and making repetitive hand movement in the performance of daily duties. The position also requires both near and far vision when inspecting work and operating assigned equipment. The need to lift, carry and push tools, equipment and supplies weighing 25 pounds or more is also required. Additionally, the incumbent in this outdoor position works in all weather conditions including wet, hot and cold. The incumbent may use cleaning and lubricating chemicals, pesticides or herbicides which may expose the employee to fumes, dust and air contaminants. The nature of the work also requires the incumbent to climb ladders, use power and noise producing tools and equipment, operate hydraulic aerial devices, drive motorized vehicles and heavy equipment, work in heavy vehicle traffic conditions and often work with constant interruptions.

Summary:
Under general supervision, coordinates, conducts and participates in the delivery of recreational program activities and executes day-to-day operations in assigned units according to established programs, schedules and standards; and performs other duties as assigned.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Researches class ideas and structure and forecasts participation; organizes and implements various athletic, craft, social, cultural, instructional and community service programs.

• Develops interest, enthusiasm and fair play among participants; addresses challenging behaviors and follows proper channels to document contacts and results; recruits assistance and guidance from immediate supervisor when escalation is needed; reports all compliance issues per District standards.
• Establishes schedules; responds to general inquiries; assists with program registration; initiates payment and refund procedures.
• Oversees and supervises the use and care of equipment, supplies, materials and facilities; assists in initiating equipment procurement and maintenance; manages forms related to facilities and equipment use.
• Supervises special events, field trips and other group activities; ensures safety of environment and equipment for participants.
• May be assigned to camp programs.

Other Duties & Responsibilites:

• May be required to drive a District or personal vehicle.
• Applies behavior modification and appropriate social modeling techniques.
• May attend community events to promote recreational programs and events.
• May assist with transportation in specialized programs.
• Participates during disasters or when emergency response is needed.

Qualifications:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfac­torily. Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge, skill and/or ability listed below is qualifying.

Education/Experience: 
A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be: graduation from high school or GED program, and at least 1,500 hours of relevant work experience, with at least 30 units completed in recreation or a related field preferred; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Candidates must be at least 18 years old.

Language Ability:
Ability to communicate effectively in English in both written and oral form. Ability to write routine correspondence using correct spelling and grammar.

Math Ability:
Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide whole numbers, fractions and decimals.

Reasoning Ability:
Ability to use common sense and exercise good judgement in solving problems. Ability to establish effective relationships with fellow employees, volunteers, participants and parents/guardians.

Certificates and Licenses: 

• First Aid & CPR/AED within 90 days of employment with ability to maintain certifications thereafter as a condition of employment.
• Valid California driver’s license with a good driving record and current automobile insurance. For Therapeutics unit: ability to obtain a commercial driver license within one year of employment (for a 15-passenger van).
• Department of Justice fingerprint clearance.
• Proof of a negative TB skin test.

Supervisory Responsibilities:
This position has no supervisory responsibilities. This position may direct the activities of contract workers and volunteer staff.
