The City of Orinda is looking for responsible, courteous individuals who enjoy working in a hands-on environment, can work independently of supervision and have experience dealing tactfully and effectively with members of the public.  The successful applicant will work on a part time basis with a schedule which will include evening and weekend hours, depending upon programs, rentals and events.   

The Facility Attendant performs custodial duties related to the care and cleaning of assigned facilities, performs a wide variety of duties for events, classes and programs, including setting up and tearing down of tables, chairs, equipment and supplies and will perform minor maintenance and repairs as needed.

EXAMPLES OF IMPORTANT AND ESSENTIAL DUTIES

Provide friendly and professional customer service by greeting Community Center visitors, serving as a main point of contact during activities and events primarily in evenings, weekends and special events.

Performs custodial duties at assigned facilities which include, but are not limited to cleaning, sweeping, vacuuming, mopping, waxing, stripping and polishing floors; cleaning furniture, woodwork, fixtures, equipment, supplies, doors, windows, walls, walkways, driveways, and facility grounds; disposing of trash.

Set up all necessary equipment and furniture such as tables, chairs, podiums, and A/V equipment for indoor and/or outdoor events.

Inspects facilities and equipment, reports issues in a timely manner to appropriate higher-level staff; performs minor facility maintenance.

Explain and follow City and department policies and procedures.

Provide information and feedback to Facility and Parks Supervisor.

Opens, closes, secures and alarms facilities in compliance with standard procedures.

Supervise and interact with rental guests, responding by assisting with any facility needs.

Assists in monitoring and maintaining equipment and supplies.

May perform clean up duties as needed, including but not limited to:  move and arrange furniture and equipment, restroom cleaning, sweeping and mopping, and garbage pick-up and removal.

Perform related duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Essential duties require the following physical skills and work environment:

Must be willing to work a scheduled variety of hours, which may include evenings, and/or weekends, as needed.

Sufficient personal mobility and physical reflexes to enable the employee to safely lift, move, climb, walk safely on even or uneven grounds, or maneuver in whatever way may be necessary to successfully perform the duties of their position; ability to travel to different sites and locations.

The City of Newark is seeking an experienced skateboarding instructor who can connect with participants of all ages, especially youth and teens. The Recreation Instructor will be responsible for the planning and implementation of skateboarding classes to be held at Mel Nunes Skatepark in Newark. Responsibilities include teaching fundamental techniques, promoting safety, and creating an encouraging environment where participants can build confidence and have fun while learning to skate.

Senior Transportation Planner (Temporary/Hourly)
Salary: $65.0163 - $83.5561 per hour

The Town of Los Gatos is accepting applications for a temporary/unbenefited Senior Transportation Planner position in the Parks and Public Works Department. This is a unique opportunity to shape and develop a vital role within our organization.

The Senior Transportation Planner will focus on managing projects and programs that support sustainable transportation opportunities for the Town while addressing and improving mobility, safety, environmental, social, and economic conditions around transportation. The selected candidate will support the Town’s ongoing initiatives around transportation planning, including identifying grant programs and managing transportation planning-related projects.

About the Department
The Parks and Public Works Department (PPW) is responsible for the maintenance and improvements of the Town's public parks, facilities, streets, and other infrastructure.  Our goal is to efficiently provide residents, businesses, and visitors with the highest quality service possible, with dedication and professionalism.  The Department has five service areas: Engineering, Capital Improvement, Streets and Signals, Parks, and Environmental Services. The Department also collaborates with all Town departments, and external partners and stakeholders.

• Engineering Services: The Engineering team provides services in the areas of encroachment permits and permitting and inspection of other work in the public right of way, including situations where new developments need to provide improvements in the right of way.  
   
• Capital Improvement: The Capital Improvement team develops and constructs capital projects across all Town assets, including improvements to roads, streetlights, parks, and Town buildings. See the annual capital budget for a list of current capital projects.
   
• Streets and Signals: The Streets and Signals team maintains the Town’s roadways, signs, and traffic signals. Traffic plays a big part in this team’s daily work as they seek to meet the needs of the community.  This includes traffic on major streets as well as on neighborhood streets where traffic calming can be a solution.
   
• Park Services: The Park Services team maintains the Town’s parks, trails, open spaces, facility grounds, median islands, parking lot landscaping, downtown planters, and the urban forest as well as administering park use fees and reservations.
   
• Environment Services: The Environmental Services team ensures that the Town is at the forefront of environmental stewardship. This team also manages the Town’s utilities, including the contract with West Valley Collection and Recycling for garbage service Town wide.

The Town of Los Gatos is a general law city operating under the Council/Manager form of government. The Town Manager and Town Attorney are appointed and directly report to the Town Council. The Town’s 150 full- and part-time employees are organized into the following departments: Parks & Public Works, Community Development, Police, Library; and Administrative Services.

• Manages updates to pedestrian and bicycle masterplans; develops, updates, distributes, and promotes Town programs, policies, educational materials, and projects to improve pedestrian, bicycle, and other forms of mobility and to encourage safe practices of all forms of mobility; serve as staff liaison to the Town’s Complete Streets and Transportation Commission.
• Coordinates planning for bicycle and pedestrian facilities in cooperation with other Town Departments, regional agencies, and community organizations.

Parking Programs

• Oversees the Town’s Parking Programs.
• Oversees the work of and administers contracts for transportation and parking consultants.
• Develops policies, procedures, and operational actions related to effective parking management, including periodic review of parking-related policy issues such as rates, time limits, enforcement hours, loading zones, and other issues.

Minimum Qualifications

Any combination of training and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be:
 
Education: Any combination of training and experience equivalent to a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in transportation planning, city and regional planning, urban studies, civil engineering, or closely related field.

Experience: Five (5) years of increasingly responsible experience in transportation development programs, including two (2) years of project management.  A Master’s Degree from an accredited college or university is desirable.

License and Certification: 

• A California Driver's License and a satisfactory driving record are conditions of initial and continued employment. 
• Possession of a Certificate of Registration as Professional Transportation Planner or Professional Engineer in the State of California, or certification from the American Institute of Certified Planners is highly desirable.

TRAINING & EXPERIENCE: current Lifeguard Certification and CPR for the Professional Rescuer and Lifeguard First Aid is required.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Must be able to lift 50 lbs. and react quickly to emergencies.

The Position

This new Urban Landscape Manager will have a primary focus on park capital maintenance projects and all phases of park maintenance contractor service agreements under the direction of the Park Superintendent. Together both of the Urban Landscape Managers will manage park staff and contractors in the care and upkeep of parks, medians, municipal landscape and hardscape, trails and open space. This includes assisting the Park Superintendent with administrative duties, short and long-term planning, organizing and supervising park maintenance operations and functions.
 
Examples of Duties

• Oversee assigned park maintenance capital projects and ensure all purchasing and legal requirements are met.
• Plan, schedule, organize, manage and assign work within sections of the Park Maintenance Division.
• Supervise employees as needed in performing park maintenance activities.

• Assigned projects should be completed within approved budget and timeline and any variance need to be communicated to the Superintendent for approval.
• Provide input for operating and capital improvement plan budget development.
• Prepare estimate of maintenance impacts due to park or landscape improvements.
• Monitor expenditures to ensure conformance with the Division’s budget.
• Prepare bid materials, contracts and specifications for the maintenance of City owned landscaped areas.
• Assist with consultants’ selection, contract administration and inspection of the work of contractors.
• Determine the type of work to be done, and the personnel and equipment required to complete the work.
• Coordinate with other departments as needed on assigned capital projects.
• Interpret and communicate appropriate application of policy and operational procedures.

The City of Berkeley invites you to apply for the position of Assistant Civil Engineer! A typical way of gaining the knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position is:

The Position

The City of Fremont is seeking a full-time Urban Forestry Service Corps Supervisor. This position is temporary, starting January 6, 2025, and ending December 19, 2025. This position works five days a week supervising and instructing small cohorts of Urban Forestry Service Corps members through a combination of in-class learning and in-the-field service projects. Position Duties  

The Department of Public Works is recruiting to fill an Information Systems Analyst (ISA) position within the Enterprise GIS (Geographic Information Systems) team.  

Salary range(s) for this classification is $137,089.68- $167,032.32 annually. This salary range(s) includes an approximate five percent (5%) ongoing non-pensionable compensation. Actual salary shall be determined by the final candidates’ qualifications and experience.  

The Enterprise GIS team operates out of the Department of Public Works but works across the city to coordinate GIS efforts, lead multi-departmental GIS projects, geospatially-enable City business systems, and administer Enterprise GIS infrastructure for citywide use. The city has standardized on a modern technology stack consisting of Windows Server, Esri ArcGIS platform, VertiGIS Studio, Safe Software FME, and SQL Server enterprise geodatabases. The city has an enterprise license agreement with Esri, and the Enterprise GIS team maintains a large Enterprise GIS server environment with public and internal-facing ArcGIS Server instances, complementary ArcGIS Portal and ArcGIS Online organizations, an SDE environment featuring a data catalog with over 1,000 feature classes, and integrations with dozens of business systems.   

The ISA is a professional-level position in the IT professional management series and responsible for GIS system administration, database design, business system integration, application development, and implementation of large-scale enterprise projects. The position requires a GIS professional with broad technical experience as well as the ability to take initiative and direct others. The ideal candidate must be a strong individual contributor that is able to take full ownership of projects, designing solutions in alignment with City Enterprise GIS standards and industry best practices and working at a hands-on level to build, implement, and support such solutions. The position also demands proven ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues with limited resources. Advanced knowledge of the ArcGIS platform and experience with GIS server administration is required. Experience with VertiGIS Studio and GIS web application development in an Esri environment is highly desirable.   

The GIS ISA reports to the Enterprise GIS Manager. This position is responsible for programming that supports the development and maintenance of major applications used citywide.  

Key responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to the following:   

• Administer Enterprise GIS server environment (ArcGIS Enterprise, VertiGIS Studio, FME Server), including planning for and conducting system upgrades; applying and confirming patches; capacity planning and load testing; publishing and tuning services; managing backups; troubleshooting and resolving system issues; managing security policies, user accounts, roles, and permissions; and maintaining system documentation. 

• Meet with business owners and end users to gather and document requirements for GIS solutions. Design, build, and deploy mapping applications on the ArcGIS platform. Provide documentation, training, and support to end users.  

• Develop and maintain web mapping applications using VertiGIS Studio Web 5.x, including web map authoring, site configuration, and development of print templates, reports, and workflows.  

• Develop and maintain complex geoprocessing routines and ETL workbenches using FME and/or Python.  

• Conduct data modeling and design activities for new datasets by analyzing inputs and developing appropriate schemas in alignment with City standards. 

• Build and support GIS integrations with City business systems.  

• Lead large-scale, cross-department Enterprise GIS projects. Work collaboratively with departments to reduce program redundancies and support effective use of enterprise resources. Train end users on enterprise standards and best practices; provide development oversight and guidance. 

In addition, this position is part of a team responsible for providing GIS support in the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) when activated.

THE POSITION
The Utilities Field Services Supervisor supervises, plans, schedules, and reviews activities related to the installations and maintenance of water mains and appurtenances, including water mains, service lines, fire hydrants, backflow prevention devices, and water meters, within the City's water system.   This position also oversees the City’s meter reading and cross connection control programs, and assists the Utilities Operations and Maintenance Manger in the overall planning, administration, and management of Utilities Operations and Maintenance functions.  
 
DEFINITION
Under general direction, to supervise, plan, schedule, and review activities related to the  installations and maintenance of water mains and appurtenances, including water mains, service lines, fire hydrants, backflow prevention devices, and water meters, of the City's water system, as well as field customer services.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
This is a management classification allocated to the Utilities Division of the Public Works Department reporting to the Utilities Operations and Maintenance Manager. The Utilities Field Services Supervisor is responsible for the field installations and customer services related to water meters and backflow device maintenance. The position is also responsible for supervision of meter reading and performing supervision and management in support of the Utilities Division's goals and objectives.  The position is also responsible for assisting the Utilities Operations and Maintenance Manger in the overall planning, administration, and management of Utilities Operations and Maintenance functions. This position is distinguished from that of subordinate utilities classifications by its responsibility for the supervision of two maintenance work groups (i.e., Field Services and Customer Services).  This position is distinguished from the Utilities Operations and Maintenance Manger position by the latter position's overall responsibility for the management and administration of the City's water distribution and sewer collection systems, the Storekeeper position, and administrative and clerical staff.

Duties may include but are not limited to the following:
 
Field services, including installation of water mains and appurtenances for City projects and/or private developments, maintenance of the water mains and appurtenances, leak repairs, water meter installation and repair, backflow prevention device installation, repairs, inspection, and testing, and meter reading program.  Field Services may be required to assist in smaller repair jobs to the sewer collection system. 

Coordinates operations with the needs of the public, outside agencies, and other City divisions.  
 
Assists the Utilities Operations and Maintenance Manager with budget preparation and performs other administrative work as assigned. 
 
Receives, investigates and responds to public inquiries, concerns, and complaints, and requests for service. Works cooperatively with City staff, residents, businesses, property owners, and other utilities and outside agencies.
 
Confers with developers and contractors as needed to ensure that the City's water system standards are met.
 
Identifies water mains and appurtenances maintenance needs in the utility system, discusses them with Utilities Operations and Maintenance Manager, and initiates proper action to resolve the problems. Ensures that the meter reading program is always on track and meeting its goals.  Assures that emergency staff is available 24 hours a day to take necessary action.
 
Oversees the development of schedules and establishment of assignment priorities for the Field Services section, as well as the Customer Service section.  
 
Develops and maintains specifications for water main and appurtenances materials and equipment and recommends purchases.  
 
Prepares and maintains specialized water system records and forms, and reports to regulatory agencies. Prepares all correspondence needed to ensure effective coordination between the Utilities Operations and Maintenance, other functions within Utilities Operations and Maintenance, Public Works, other City departments, and the general public. 
 
Reviews, evaluates and prepares comments on construction plans, drawings and specifications related to water system infrastructure projects including mains, connections, valves, equipment, and other systems.
 
Ensures that all Underground Service Alert (USA) markings for the City's water and sewer mains, and fiber optic cable are done in a timely and accurate manner.
 
Participates in interviews and selection of new employees under the positions responsibilities, and training of employees in work procedures, standards and safety practices. 
 
Prepares and provides input into employee performance evaluations, including setting and assessing goals, conducts counseling on work-related issues, and makes recommendations regarding discipline.
 
Actively participates in the Public Works Department's Safety Committee.
 
Performs other related duties as assigned.

JOB RELATED ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge of: 

• Water transmission and distribution operations and maintenance, and underground installation programs; and safe work practices.
• Principles of hydraulic theory as it applies to water distribution system, water transmission systems, pressure zones and pressure regulating valves.
• Current methods, codes and regulations governing underground work and water main and appurtenances installation.
• Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems including data propagation methods, and associated hardware and software.
• Modern work order development and processing.
• Principles of management and supervision including work planning, direction, training, and evaluation of work and staff performance.

Ability to: 

• Direct the daily field services of a municipal water distribution system, and field customer services functions.
• Supervise, train and evaluate subordinate field, technical, and support staff; and coordinate schedules to insure the timely processing of the public's request.
• Communicate both orally and in writing to prepare clear and accurate maintenance and safety reports, lead discussions, and present information to City staff, contractors, and the general public.
• Review and evaluate construction plans, drawings and specifications related to field services projects including underground infrastructure, and related equipment.  
• Calculate field assets historical and instantaneous performance using a variety of data, formulas and equations.
• Make reasonable assessments as to repair or replacement of water main, valves, and other related equipment; and advise Utilities staff, design consultants, engineers and contractors in acquisition and installation of new equipment.
• Make informed judgments concerning maintenance parameters of water system; and make independent judgments during emergencies. 

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION
Any combination of experience and training that could likely provide the required knowledge and abilities would be qualifying.  A typical way to qualify is:
 
Experience: Four (4) years of progressively responsible experience in the Field Services of a water system including one (1) year of responsible supervisory or lead position experience in a distribution system classified as a D4 system or higher by the California Department of Health Services.
 
Education: Completion of twelfth grade or possession of GED, supplemented by college course work related to potable water, water distribution, wastewater collection, recycled water distribution, or a science field.  Possession of an Associate's Degree in water distribution, wastewater collection, recycled water distribution, or in a science field may be substituted for the required coursework.  Possession of a bachelor's degree is desirable.  

License or Certificate:Requires possession and maintenance of a valid Water Distribution Operator D4 Certificate issued by the California Department of Health Services,

OR

Possession and maintenance of valid Water Distribution D3 Certification issued by the California Department of Health Services with the ability to obtain and maintain a D4 Certification within eighteen (18) months of appointment to the position. 

AND

Possession and maintenance of a valid Class C California Driver's License.
