What You'll Do

Key Responsibilities

• Inspect public works and capital projects – including streets, storm drains, sidewalks, grading, and related infrastructure – for compliance with plans, specifications, codes, and safety standards
• Review construction plans, specifications, and permit applications
• Administer encroachment and transportation permits from issuance through closeout
• Prepare daily inspection reports and maintain project documentation, including support for payments and change orders
• Guide contractors on proper construction methods, materials, and standards
• Oversee field testing for soils, asphalt, and concrete
• Perform survey work and assist with traffic engineering studies
• Investigate resident concerns and coordinate solutions with contractors and City staff
• Serve as a liaison among the City, contractors, utilities, businesses, and property owners
• Support interns and assist with training related to permit processing
• Perform light maintenance tasks such as traffic signal timing adjustments

The City of Berkeley is seeking PE-licensed candidates who are passionate about improving infrastructure for a more sustainable and resilient city. As an Associate Civil Engineer, you'll have the opportunity to apply your engineering knowledge and experience toward the creation and maintenance of state-of-the-art infrastructure, amenities, and facilities. 

When assigned to Public Works, the Associate Civil Engineer will contribute to exciting new projects across the City. Upcoming developments include large mix-used buildings in downtown Berkeley as well as UC Berkeley projects that will require review for impacts to public right-of-way. Other assignments include Construction Management and Inspection, Buildings/Facilities, and Streets. 

When assigned to the Parks, Recreation & Waterfront Department, the Associate Civil Engineer functions as a project leader for Capital Projects with an emphasis on engineering design. Capital improvement teams are responsible for coordinating with stakeholders and managing contracts to get projects ready for bidding and construction. 

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

A typical way of gaining the knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position is equivalent to graduation from a four year college or university with major coursework in civil engineering and three (3) years of professional engineering experience in design and construction work at a level equivalent to the Assistant Civil Engineer class.

Progressively responsible related experience may be substituted for the college coursework on a year-for-year basis.

Other requirements include possession of a valid California Registration as a professional Civil Engineer and possession of a valid California driver's license with a satisfactory driving record.

A Dispatcher II is a civilian employee of the Police Department who performs a variety of tasks in the Department’s Support Services Division. Have knowledge of business English, spelling; modern office practices and procedures; record keeping. Ability to dispatch police units quickly and effectively; work under pressure; exercise independent judgment; work with minimal supervision; make sound decisions in emergency situations; learn assigned clerical tasks readily and to adhere to prescribed routine; write English legibly; establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and the general public; operate computer-aided dispatch system, 911 emergency telephone, and other multi-line telephone systems, various law enforcement telecommunications systems, radio console with headsets and handsets, computer keyboards, cameras, intercoms, security. The City of Pleasant Hill offers a competitive compensation and benefits program.

• Salary: $6,987 to $9,050 per month. Placement within the range depends on experience and qualifications.
• Medical Benefits: Choice of coverage with Kaiser or Blue Shield. The City pays 80% of monthly premiums at each coverage level. The City of Newark is seeking an experienced skateboarding instructor who can connect with participants of all ages, especially youth and teens. The Recreation Instructor will be responsible for the planning and implementation of skateboarding classes to be held at Mel Nunes Skatepark in Newark. Responsibilities include teaching fundamental techniques, promoting safety, and creating an encouraging environment where participants can build confidence and have fun while learning to skate.

THE POSITIONS

Under direct supervision, the Public Service Assistant II will perform litter/trash pick-up, barbeque maintenance, leaf/debris pick-up, and miscellaneous park duties in Central Park and other community parks.  The Public Service Assistant II will also perform related duties as assigned.
 
WORK SCHEDULE

The positions work up to a full-time schedule of 40 hours per week and may be required to work a regular shift that includes evening and weekend hours. These temporary assignments are limited to 999 hours per fiscal year (July 1 - June 30).

The Pool Tech is an hourly employee of the Parks & Recreation Department. The Pool Tech's primary responsibility is the maintenance of on-site recreation facilities at the Aqua Adventure Water Park and the safe operation of all rides. This responsibility includes water testing, writing reports, pool cleaning, general facility cleaning, public assistance and public education. The Pool Tech is expected to work evenings, weekends and holidays on a regular basis.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES (This a general description of duties and is not all-inclusive)

• Provide outstanding customer service while performing assigned duties, including interpreting and conveying information throughout the Waterpark
• Perform a variety of tasks in the operation, maintenance, cleaning and servicing of water at Aqua Adventure Waterpark
• Complete a variety or records and reports, including inspection reports
• Conduct pool inspections to ensure the pool environment is safe for general use
• Treat water with chemicals to maintain safe and healthy water quality and monitor chemical usage
• Performing water tests for chlorine, Ph, calcium hardness and total alkalinity
• Receive chemical deliveries
• Recognize hazardous conditions, emergency notification and contain area until help arrives

The Newark Recreation and Community Services Department is looking for Senior Lifeguards for our fantastic swim lesson and aquatic programs and the upcoming to work at the year-round Silliman Activity & Family Aquatic Center. The Waterpark Deck Crew provides custodial maintenance and supervision of the Waterpark before, during, and after Waterpark operations. Work hours may vary but will often be mornings, weekends, weekdays, and holidays.
