The City of San Mateo Parks & Recreation Department is looking for enthusiastic, team-oriented,

The Position:

This position provides leadership in daily program operations and supports high-quality services and a welcoming environment for staff, participants, and their families. This role serves as a lead staff member and mentor to lower-level Recreation staff. Strong attention to leadership skills, sound judgment, and a commitment to developmentally appropriate practices and safety compliance.

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will possess a valid State of California driver’s license, and Early Childhood Education units are preferred. Candidates should have at least one year of paid experience in a classroom, after-school program, or camp environment, along with a minimum of a high school diploma. Applicants must demonstrate leadership experience working with youth and strong verbal and written communication skills. The position requires the ability to work independently while following direction from higher-level Recreation staff, as well as the ability to assist with training and mentoring team members. Attention to detail is essential, including maintaining accurate records and required documentation. Proficiency in basic computer applications such as Microsoft Word and Excel is expected. Successful completion of required background checks is mandatory upon hire. Availability is required Monday through Friday from May through August, between the hours of 7:30 a.m. and 6:00 p.m.

Recreation Specialist III Example Duties:

Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Lead the implementation of daily camp activities that are developmentally appropriate for children ages 5–12
• Provide professional guidance and mentorship to Recreation Specialists I and II
• Assist with behavior management strategies and best practices for working with youth
• Support daily camp operations, including sign-in/sign-out procedures, field trips, and safety practices
• Assist with incident and accident documentation
• Occasional driving of City vehicles to support programmatic needs, including transporting youth participants on field trips.
• Communicate appropriately with families and participants
• Assist with managing program supplies and equipment
• Participate in weekly staff meetings and trainings as assigned
• Follow established safety procedures and program guidelines

ABOUT THE POSITION

ABOUT THE POSITION

 

The City of Redwood City invites you to apply for the position of SECRETARY in the Parks, Recreation and Community Services Department (Recreation Division). The successful candidate will perform a wide variety of complex and secretarial duties in daily support of the Red Morton Community Center. The Department

The Parks and Recreation Department is the third largest department in the City and is organized by program area, with each program administered by a supervisor, coordinator, or specialist. The Parks and Recreation Department is composed of a Director and 22 full-time management positions. The department is comprised of the Recreation, Parks, and Building Maintenance divisions. The Parks and Recreation Department mission is to provide opportunities for physical, cultural and social well being; protect and enhance the physical environment; and ensure the effective and efficient use of public facilities and open space.

The Building Maintenance Division maintains 32 facilities totaling more than 563,000 square feet and over 275 acres of park land. The division provides janitorial, preventative maintenance services, and necessary building and related equipment repairs to all of the City's facilities, including interior and exterior work. The division also performs a variety of tasks, which include moving furniture, set-ups, and many other miscellaneous tasks as required. 

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate will have knowledge of methods, materials, tools, equipment, and techniques used in performing custodial repair and maintenance; occupational hazards and safety practices and procedures related to the work; and techniques for dealing with the public, City staff, and representatives of contractors in an effective manner. The ideal Building Maintenance Custodian will also have the ability to maintain proper standards of cleanliness in assigned areas; follow written and verbal instructions; maintain basic records; and use materials, tools, and equipment safely and effectively form physical labor, including periodic heavy labor.

The Position

TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (may include but are not limited to the following):

• Sweeps, mops, waxes and polishes floors; shampoos and cares for carpets and rugs.
• Dusts and polishes woodwork, furniture, fixtures and equipment; wash windows, walls and other fixtures.
• Empties and cleans trash containers and wastebaskets; picks up paper and other debris.
• Cleans rest rooms and maintain supplies.
• Locks and unlocks doors, as necessary, provides for other forms of building security.
• Sets up rooms for meetings and other special events.
• May deliver materials and supplies to and from City locations.
• Performs related duties and responsibilities as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS: Any combination of experience and training that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities would be qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge, skills, and abilities would be:

Experience: One year of janitorial experience 

Training: Equivalent to graduation from high school.

Licenses/Certificates: Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate, valid California driver’s license and a satisfactory driving record, which must be maintained as a condition of employment.

The Town of Colma Recreation Services Department is currently accepting applications for Recreation Leaders for Summer 2026.  The Recreation Department provides programs and activities for Colma residents of all ages ranging from infants to seniors. Program elements include fitness, enrichment, cultural events, special events, sporting events, trips, and community events. WORK SCHEDULE 

This internship can start as early as June 1, 2026, and end as late as September 30, 2026. 

This paid internship is offered at 15 – 25 hours per week with flexible scheduling. 

The official start and end date of the internship will be determined at the time of hire. Work hours are generally Monday – Friday between 8:00am – 5:00pm.

 

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

Interns are in a learning environment and will assist with the following tasks and projects:

• Review technical reports, plans, and specifications. 
• Participate in field investigations and inspections. 
• Calculate material quantity estimates for contract bids. 
• Prepare, collect, and organize documents for construction contract compliance.

About the Position: The Planning Department is seeking TWO interns who are interested in learning about open space and planning for ecologically sensitive public recreation. Their responsibilities may include researching and compiling project information, supporting community and stakeholder engagement, assisting with environmental review and documentation, researching new programs and initiatives, conducting field surveys and data collection, and using computer-based systems such as GIS, Microsoft Excel and Adobe Illustrator for analysis of data and preparation of documents related to Midpen programs, lands and facilities. The interns will work as a team and individually on assignments, including opportunities for field work to gain experience in data collection techniques and tools and on-the-job training in project management, planning research, analysis, and written communication.  For additional information about the position, see the Job Description on our website. Possession of a valid California driver’s license is required before time of appointment. Must possess the ability to lift, carry, push and pull materials and objects weighing up to 25 pounds.

Working Conditions:  This position will report to the Planning Department at the Administrative Office in Los Altos, California.  Midpen offers a hybrid office/telecommute work environment for this position, which will be divided between onsite work, field visits, and limited home office work.  The selected individuals will be required to work a minimum of three days on-site per week, and assignments may vary between field and office work. Field work is conducted in rural or mountainous Midpen open space areas, which may involve working alone or with another intern in wildland areas, traversing rough difficult terrain sometimes with poison oak and dense vegetation, and carrying equipment weighing up to 25 pounds. This is a temporary position working 20 – 40 hours per week (within regular business days/hours). Regular business is conducted Monday through Friday between the hours of 8:00am to 5:00pm. Interns may work up to a total of 950 hours over a 6-to-9-month period. This is a non-benefited position.

ABOUT THE POSITION

The City of Redwood City Parks, Recreation & Community Services Department is looking for enthusiastic people to work within our After School Sports and Mobile Recreation programs operated out of Red Morton Community Center. The hours of this position could be Monday through Friday, from 3:30pm-8:30pm during the school year, but nighttime and weekend hours will be mandatory depending on special events and program needs. During the spring and summer, duties will include, but are not limited to, serving as an assistant coach within our Junior Dribblers basketball program and assisting with mobile recreation activities at various parks and school sites. This position will work under the gym/field supervisor and report directly to the After School Sports Coordinator.

Typical duties may include, but are not limited to the following: work as a field attendant in our flag football leagues; work as a scorekeeper in our volleyball and basketball leagues; possess a firm understanding of league rules and policies; ensure that games and practices operated in a safe, inclusive environment; report any issues immediately to gym/ field supervisor and/or After School Sports Coordinator; address all parent and coaches in a professional manner; maintain and care for all sports and mobile rec equipment; follow departmental and city-wide rules and regulations as they relate to the supervision of sports program and general work procedures; assist with other programs within the Parks & Recreation Department, including but not limited to, facilities, special events, and other youth programs.
