DEFINITION

To operate a computer aided dispatch system receiving calls and dispatching police, fire or other City services.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

This is a journey technical level position in which incumbents are expected to independently perform the full range of duties assigned. This class is distinguished from the Communications Supervisor in that the latter provides technical and functional supervision over assigned communication personnel.

The Communications Center in the Support Services Division of the Hayward Police Department is responsible for dispatching both Police and Fire Services throughout the City of Hayward. The Hayward Police Department is one of 18 CALEA (Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement) accredited police departments in California and is committed to maintaining CALEA's high standards and broadly recognized excellence.
The Communications Center is frequently the first point of contact that a member of the public will have when requesting assistance from the City of Hayward. The information gathered by the communications operator during this contact is critical to a positive outcome. The Communications Center consists of six (6) stations with each communications operator assigned to a specific job.
 


 

Essential Duties

Duties may include but are not limited to the following: 

Receives emergency and non-emergency calls from the public, private companies and other jurisdictions.

Dispatches police and fire personnel or other City services in response to such calls.

Relays emergency and non-emergency information to public safety personnel in the field.

Relays information to other agencies as required.

Monitors multiple frequencies.

Maintains accurate record of location and status of public safety units.

Operates a manual dispatch system when necessary.

Assists in relaying information during response to natural disasters.

Performs related work as necessary.

• Learn to operate manual and computer aided radio and telephone equipment in dispatching public safety equipment and personnel.

• Type accurately at a speed of 35 words per minute.
• Work various shifts, including day, swing and graveyard as well as weekends and holidays.

Minimum Qualifications

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION

Any combination equivalent to experience and education that could likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

Experience: Two (2) years of heavy public contact experience while performing multiple tasks simultaneously. Public Safety dispatch experience is desirable.

Education: Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth (12th) grade.

Licenses and Certificates: Completion of the California Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) Basic Public Safety Dispatcher course is highly desirable.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS
Typing Certificate: A typing certificate with 35net words per minute must accompany your application.

1. Certificates will be accepted from a public school, business school or temporary agency;certificates from Internet testing services and/or home computer CD testing will NOT be accepted.
2. Typing certificate (or signed statement on official letterhead from the testing agency) must be dated no earlier than six (6) months prior to the date of the application filing.
3. Typing certificate (or signed letter) must state all of the following information: · Five (5)-minute timed typing test.
· Gross typing speed in words per minute.
· Gross number of errors.
· Net words per minute.

Under supervision, a Police Cadet is a non-sworn, part-time classification that assists police personnel in a variety of operations in order to gain practical knowledge of law enforcement. They will obtain practical work experience that supports their career goals.

• Writing warnings and citations for illegally parked vehicles.
• Observing and reporting hazardous conditions such as missing traffic signals, signs, and street markings that need to be repainted.
• Maintaining assigned equipment and supplies such as hand-held citation computers, citation books, rain gear, street cones, flares, etc.
• Performing traffic control duties such as setting up barricades and temporary signs, directing traffic, and placing inoperative bags on broken parking meters.

 

Positions assigned to Fleet Maintenance may be responsible for:

• Reviewing and reporting vehicle deficiencies.
• Scheduling repair of vehicles and equipment.
• Transporting vehicles and equipment to repair shop.
• Arranging for tows.
• Entering and maintaining vehicle inventory/status log.
• Coordinating service, oil changes, and cleaning of vehicles.
• Maintaining supplies such as stocking first aid kits, fingerprint kits and flares, ensuring fire extinguishers are full and appropriately charged, etc.
• Registering undercover vehicles with DMV.

The Yuba County Sheriff's Department is responsible for the administration of the Yuba County Jail and Jail staff. The county prisoner population is made up of those who are sentenced to county jail, those serving state prison sentences in the county jail under AB109, and those who are pre-trial and who have not yet been sentenced. The Public Works Solid Waste Facility is hiring an Office Technician I to support daily operations and provide service to the community. This position is responsible for collecting fees and directing traffic at the County’s solid waste site. Under the general supervision of supervisory and management staff, the Office Technician I also performs a variety of clerical and technical duties, and provides information and assistance to the public regarding departmental policies, procedures, and applicable laws. The County of Yuba is recruiting for both Extra-Help and Full-Time Juvenile Corrections Officers I/II, in an effort to fill current vacancies and expand staffing levels. These positions are located on the Tri-County Youth Rehabilitation Campus which falls under the Juvenile Institutions Division of the Yuba County Probation Department.  The primary responsibilities of this flexibly staffed position are to: provide care, custody, supervision, and control of youth housed in the secured detention facilities while they are pending legal action or serving a post adjudication commitment; ensure and sustain a safe and secure environment for youth; and coordinate counseling and behavior modification activities associated with the operation of the facilities.

 

About Detention Services & Yuba County:

Our Department believes people can change and we can be instrumental in supporting that change.  We are  a small workplace family that supports one another to accomplish our mission and allow our team members to live full lives outside the workplace. Our Campus provides youth detention services to the communities of Yuba, Sutter, and Colusa Counties as well as several contract counties through our Camp Singer program.  We operate 24 hours a day, 365 days per year, and includes the Tri-County Juvenile Hall, Secure Housing Unit, and Maxine Singer Youth Guidance Center (Camp Singer), under a Joint Powers Agreement between the three counties. Our Department is the administrative agency responsible for the management and daily operation of the facility. THE POSITION:

Under the general supervision of the Youth & Family Services Clinical Supervisor and the Community Services Manager, the Intervention Counselor provides crisis intervention, individual and family counseling; identifies appropriate referral services to youth, families and individuals.

 

CLASS CHARACTERISTICS:

Intervention Counselor is a journey-level professional classification. Incumbents perform the full range of counseling duties within the Community Services division. Incumbents in this position receive occasional instruction as new or unusual situations arise. The Intervention Counselor is distinguished from the Clinical Supervisor in that the latter is responsible for overseeing clinical work, providing direct supervision to clinical staff and interns, responsible for ensuring counselors follow professional guidelines, establishes processes and procedures for the clinical side of the division, researches and provides appropriate training, and is the primary liaison with the school district and police department in regard to referrals, counseling, and crisis support. While the Intervention Counselor provides direct counseling, run group counseling and workshops, and provides intervention services and supportive tools and resources to clients.

• Provide individual, family and group counseling to children, adolescents, and adults using a variety of therapeutic and counseling techniques. 
• Provide crisis intervention services around a variety of issues including: incorrigible youth/status offenders, child/adult abuse, domestic violence, trauma, individuals experiencing mental health issues, and families in conflict; may conduct visits at homes, schools, and juvenile detention centers. 
• Conduct assessments to identify appropriate resources, provide referral services and connect clients with additional services as needed.

• Conduct outreach to promote programs and services.

THE POSITION:

This is a division head management position at the Hayward Executive Airport, reporting to the Airport Manager. The incumbent is responsible for the management of the business and accounting functions at the airport and provides second-line supervision and direction of staff within the Airport Division. This position is distinguished from the Airport Operations Supervisor classification which is responsible for the direct supervision of staff performance of Airside and Landside operations and maintenance tasks at the airport. Under general direction, the Airport Business Supervisor, oversees the airport business function including budget preparation, the real property program, tenant compliance with contract provisions, collections, preparation of grant applications, and other administrative duties.

The Airport Business Supervisor is a key administrative position in the Airport division of Hayward Public Works Department. Candidates under final consideration for employment with the City should expect to undergo an employment background/reference check that may include, but is not limited to: employment history verification, medical evaluation, confirmation of educational credentials and degrees, licenses including driver's license, registrations, certificates, and other credentials as part of the appointment process. Some positions, depending on the nature of the work, also require a credit check and a review of Summary Criminal History obtained from the State Department of Justice through Live Scan Fingerprinting.
