The Yuba County Sheriff’s Department is currently accepting applications to establish an eligibility list for the classification of Correctional Officer.  Under continuing supervision incumbents perform a wide variety of support in two areas: corrections, in which incumbents ensure the security, safety and care of individuals in custody; and bailiff, in which incumbents ensure the safety and security of the courts and their personnel during court proceedings; and perform related work as assigned. Incumbents may be assigned to either County Jail security or Court security. 

About the Sheriff’s Department :

The Yuba County Sheriff's Department is responsible for the administration of the Yuba County Jail and Jail staff. The Mission of the Yuba County Jail is to provide safe, efficient, humane and secure custody of all persons incarcerated. The county prisoner population is made up of those who are sentenced to county jail, those serving state prison sentences in the county jail under AB109, and those who are pre-trial and who have not yet been sentenced. The jail provides a necessary link in the criminal justice system. There are numerous programs operating within the facility including medical, kitchen, exercise, commissary, visiting, law library, inmate education, work programs, work furlough program, and inmate classification.

The County of Yuba is currently accepting full time and extra help employment applications for the position of Office Specialist within the Community Development and Services Agency.  Under general supervision, incumbents perform a variety of administrative, secretarial, and office support duties of considerable complexity, requiring thorough know ledge of the assigned department, division, or program, its procedures and operational details; provides administrative support to various department staff; composes and prepares correspondence using judgment in content and style; performs skilled word processing, data entry and organization, telephone and counter reception, processing of invoices, recordkeeping, statistical and technical report preparation, and filing; provides information to the public and County staff; and performs related duties as assigned.  

Note: Office Specialist is a County-wide classification. The employment list established from this recruitment may be utilized to fill additional vacancies within the same classification in other departments including law enforcement departments such as Sheriff and Probation if they arise during the life of the Employment List.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:

• Perform specialized office support work which may require the knowledge of detailed or specialized activities related to the department to which assigned.
• Compiles and assemble information from a variety of sources for the completion of forms or the preparation of reports; make arithmetic or statistical calculations.
• Enter, edit and retrieve data and prepare periodic or special reports from an online or personal computer system following established formats and menus; may create report formats using programmed software to meet individual needs.
• Provide information to the public or to County staff that requires some interpretation of policies, rules and/or procedures.
• Maintain records and processes various forms, applications, permits, or other department or division specific documents; type correspondence, reports, forms, and specialized documents related to the functions of the department, division, or program, which assigned from drafts, notes or brief instructions, using a word processor; may compose standard correspondence from brief instructions.
• Proofread and check typed and other materials for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with departmental policies; and correct English language, including grammar, punctuation, and spelling.

    • NTN Law Enforcement Exam: Minimum passing score of 65% for video, 70% for reading and 70% for writing. Virtual and in-person options are available for NTN. A screenshot of your NTN scores must be attached to your application.
    • POST Entry-Level Law Enforcement Test Battery (PELLETB): Minimum passing score of 49.

The County Counsel position, under direction of the Board of Supervisors, serves as principle legal counsel to the County of Glenn; plans, organizes, directs and reviews the functions and  activities for the County Counsel’s Office including advising County departments and employees on legal issues and representing those departments and employees in litigation; establish, monitor, evaluate and revise the office’s goals, objectives, policies, and procedures; coordinate assigned activities with other County departments and outside agencies.

This position performs a variety of work in the monitoring of county, state and federal detainees and maintains the security and safety of inmates and staff.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

• Performs booking procedures, including receiving, booking and assigning prisoners to cells; performing body searches; fingerprinting, and photographing prisoners, etc.
• Maintains custody of prisoners’ private property.
• Maintains the safe and orderly operation of the County jail facility; monitors security cameras and door warning lights; screens and monitors visitors. Inspects all of inmates’ incoming and outgoing mail and telegrams.
• Inspects facilities regularly.
• Monitors the condition and activities of prisoners.
• Prepares prisoners for court appearances; provides transportation as necessary.
• Administers First Aid in emergency situations.
• Performs general office work, including but not limited to entering computer data, copying and filing documents, etc.
• Prepares and submits required records and reports.
• Performs related duties as assigned.

THE POSITION:

Under the general supervision of the Youth & Family Services Clinical Supervisor and the Community Services Manager, the Intervention Counselor provides crisis intervention, individual and family counseling; identifies appropriate referral services to youth, families and individuals.

CLASS CHARACTERISTICS:

Intervention Counselor is a journey-level professional classification. Incumbents perform the full range of counseling duties within the Community Services division. Incumbents in this position receive occasional instruction as new or unusual situations arise. The Intervention Counselor is distinguished from the Clinical Supervisor in that the latter is responsible for overseeing clinical work, providing direct supervision to clinical staff and interns, responsible for ensuring counselors follow professional guidelines, establishes processes and procedures for the clinical side of the division, researches and provides appropriate training, and is the primary liaison with the school district and police department in regard to referrals, counseling, and crisis support. While the Intervention Counselor provides direct counseling, run group counseling and workshops, and provides intervention services and supportive tools and resources to clients.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

Duties may include but are not limited to the following: 

• Provide individual, family and group counseling to children, adolescents, and adults using a variety of therapeutic and counseling techniques. 
• Provide crisis intervention services around a variety of issues including: incorrigible youth/status offenders, child/adult abuse, domestic violence, trauma, individuals experiencing mental health issues, and families in conflict; may conduct visits at homes, schools, and juvenile detention centers. 
• Conduct assessments to identify appropriate resources, provide referral services and connect clients with additional services as needed.
• May receive, process and track all incoming case management, outreach, and counseling referrals as needed.
• Represent the City of Union City in the name of AC Probation, Centro de Servicios, Tiburcio Vazquez, Malabar House/Eden Counseling Services, NHUSD school administrators – principals, teachers, student services staff, UC Family Center,  Fremont Resource Center, (Fresh Lives for Youth (FLY), Filipinos  Advocates For Justice (FAFJ), MidPen Housing, Bay Area Community Health (BACH),  Safe Alternatives To Violent Environments (SAVE) to continue to develop and maintain relationships with these social welfare agencies and organizations. 
• Prepare and give presentations to youth, parents and community members.
• Conduct outreach to promote programs and services.
• Generate and maintain appropriate records, client files, and accurate statistical/monthly reports.
• Participate in weekly and monthly department and community meetings, trainings, and workshops as necessary.
• May provide guidance and clinical support to non-clinical staff who engage with clients. 
• Develop and implement new processes and procedures as needed. 
   

The County of Yuba is currently accepting full time and extra help applications for the position of Correctional Technician within the Probation Department - Youth Detention Facilities and the Sheriff's Department - Jail Division. Working under general supervision, the Correctional Technician is responsible for operating and monitoring video and audio systems to maintain the safety and security of inmates, juveniles, and staff within the secure detention areas. Additional responsibilities include performing various technical and clerical tasks related to the intake and release process for the County's Jail system, and juveniles at the Tri-County Juvenile Hall and Maxine Singer Youth Guidance Center, inputting relevant data into the booking system, documenting inmate and juvenile observations, providing public reception, access, and assistance as required, and other related duties as assigned.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:

Essential:

• Process paperwork provided by law enforcement officer or the courts for new inmates or youth; verify information on booking forms; obtain signatures; oversee telephone usage; obtain photographs; inventory and securely process property and money for safekeeping.
• Gather and enter inmate or youth information into computerized booking system; prepare and route computer-generated booking; complete files, logs, charts and other documents associated with jail or juvenile detention facility booking activities.
• Participate in monitoring safety and security of the staff, inmates, juveniles, visitors and facility; notify appropriate staff of any incidents, problems, or suspicious behavior.
• Observe and assess the behavior of inmates or youth from a control room; monitor radio communications; and operate intercom and electronic door controls in routine and emergency conditions.
• Process court paperwork, process discharge paperwork, and enter data into computer system.
• Update manual and automated inmate or youth records and tracking systems.
• Monitor inmates or youth on exercise yard from a controlled area; monitor and document inmates’ or youths’ recreational activities.
• Process and monitor visitors, ascertains nature of business, assist and/or direct visitors to appropriate person, observe visitation, report security violations.

The County of Yuba is currently recruiting for the classification of Social Worker II. Under general supervision, incumbents perform moderately complex social services case work by providing a variety of services to County residents; conducting field visits; identifying, assessing and arranging alternative solutions to clients’ needs and obstacles; carry a moderately complex caseload; prepare and monitor plans; prepare court reports, depending on area of assignment; and perform related work as assigned.
