How to qualify

Education: Possession of a baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university AND

Experience: Four (4) years of experience managing a section with oversight of contract negotiation, administration, operation, or compliance within a large organization, all of which includes experience supervising professionals.

Substitution:

1. Additional experience as described above may be substituted for the required degree on a year-for-year basis (up to a maximum of two (2) years). Thirty (30) semester units or forty-five (45) quarter units equal one year.

The Bay Area Air District (Air District) is a regional government agency, committed to achieving clean air to protect the public's health and the environment. The Air District is currently accepting applications for the position of Senior Rule Development Engineer (Senior Air Quality Engineer) in the Rules & Strategic Policy Division. This is an open recruitment for one (1) full-time, represented positions.
 

About the Position

The Rules and Strategic Policy Division works with all levels of the Air District, including staff, management, executives, and Board members in developing and modifying Air District rules to provide emissions reductions to improve air quality both regionally and at the neighborhood level and protect the climate. The Senior Rule Development Engineer (Senior Air Quality Engineer) will: 

• Work closely with professional and technical staff and perform complex scientific research and economic analyses and engineering work for developing regulations to control air pollutants (including those contributing to climate change and contributing to localize air quality impacts in overburdened communities).
• Review and draft regulatory language, develop and implement cost effectiveness and incremental cost effectiveness calculations for a wide variety of sources in an industrial sector with a variety of control options.
• Analyze emissions inventories to determine baseline emissions and reduction estimates for rules under development. 
• Review environmental and socioeconomic analyses required by statute.
• Develop testing and verification procedures. 
• Advise Air District managers, brief executives, and present at workshops, committee meetings and board hearings.
• Work closely with the Community Engagement Section staff and other Air District divisions to strengthen partnerships with key community stakeholders.
• Manage external work duties and efforts of various contractors.

DEFINITION

Under direction, provides lead direction to engineering staff and performs the more difficult and complex professional engineering work in a variety of areas such as permit application evaluation, toxic risk screening and assessment evaluations, compliance audits and source testing; modeling and source inventory; performs related work as assigned.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

This is the specialist level class in this series. In addition to performing the more difficult and complex engineering work, responsibilities include functioning as the project leader for a variety of engineering projects, providing training to other District staff and coordinating technical data gathering and compilation and the preparation of special and technical reports. This class is distinguished from Supervising Air Quality Engineer in that the latter supervises the staff and participates in the activities of assigned air quality engineering responsibilities.

This is the advanced lead level in the professional engineering series. Incumbents provide lead direction to air quality engineers and performs highly specialized and difficult engineering projects. Incumbents are assigned to design and implement programs that require considerable professional knowledge and the use of independent judgement. This class is distinguished from the Principal Air Quality Engineer in that the latter has the responsibility for developing new programs and handling the most difficult, sensitive, or critical projects.

There are currently various vacancies in the Probation department. Depending on qualifications, the vacancy may be filled at the Deputy Probation Officer I or Deputy Probation Officer II level.

Selected candidates must be available to work flexible shifts, including graveyards, day shift, swing shift, weekends and holidays at any of the Probation Department locations. Project Description

Under supervision, the History Room Intern will perform archival work including processing collections, creating discovery tools (e.g. finding aids, social media posts, etc.), creating metadata for a photograph collection, creating historic displays, assisting in organizing a public program, and planning an oral history project.      

The intern will gain an on-the-job understanding of archival standards and best practices and gain experience working with a variety of archival materials while increasing public knowledge and access to historic collections through programming and creation of discovery tools, increasing the diversity of the archive through work. 

San Mateo County Health's Public Health, Policy and Planning Division has exciting field-based opportunities for well-qualified and motivated Nurse Practitioners to provide both primary and urgent care to adults from vulnerable populations within our community—people experiencing homelessness and/or in shelters, monolingual Spanish speakers and other new immigrants, and those without insurance or underinsured. These services are provided through various Mobile Clinic modalities and venues, including but not limited to street medicine, shelter medicine, and the mobile coach. We are looking for collaborative Nurse Practitioners to work in and lead various multidisciplinary service teams in the field to provide comprehensive, low-threshold, client-centered care and engagement.

Teams are staffed by a Nurse Practitioner (NP), Psychiatrist, Medical Services Assistant, AOD Case Manager, and Patient Services Assistants. These teams work closely with our community partners from the Human Services Agency and community-based organizations who locate and identify clients needing medical and/or mental health services, as well as provide additional health, housing, and social services in the field.

Under general supervision, Nurse Practitioners provide urgent care and primary health care services such as physical examinations, chronic disease management (e.g., diabetes and hypertension), and referrals/linkages to specialty clinics as appropriate.

Currently, Public Health Clinics has one full-time, regular, 40-hour-per-week vacancy for a bilingual Spanish Nurse Practitioner and two 40-hour-per-week, Limited-Term Nurse Practitioner vacancies, requiring flexible schedules and field-based work at different locations. Sixty-five percent of the NP’s time will be in the field, with the remainder spent in the office documenting notes, placing orders, and coordinating with other staff as needed.

The ideal candidate has experience:

• In family practice addressing chronic disease management

• Identify and manage common illnesses and other health problems.

Qualifications

Education and Experience
Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying.

• Education: Completion of an advanced nursing degree from a program accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) or the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC), with emphasis in a Nurse Practitioner specialty area.

EDUCATION AND TRAINING GUIDELINES

Education:  Graduation from a four-year college or university with major course work in city or regional planning, urban planning, public policy, or a closely related field.  Master’s degree in a related field is highly desirable.

Experience:  Three (3) years of previous professional experience as a current planner.  One (1) year of experience can be substituted by a Master’s degree.

Licenses:  Possession of a valid California Driver’s License and a satisfactory driving record, as determined by the City.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Speak clearly and understandably; operate standard computer programs. Ability to travel to various locations within and outside the City of Millbrae to meet program needs and fulfill the job responsibilities. When driving on City business, maintenance of a California driver’s license and satisfactory driver’s record is required. Must be able to actively participate in evening meetings.

SUMMARY DESCRIPTION

Under the direction of an assigned supervisor/coordinator, the Pool Manager is responsible for supervising and directing the aquatics program and staff, and implementing and coordinating specific aquatic programs, including meeting the program objectives. This is an at-will, intermittent, part-time, hourly position without City-paid benefits. Work a flexible work schedule, which may include evening, weekdays, weekends and holidays.

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES

The following duties are typical for this classification. Incumbents may not perform all of the listed duties and/or may be required to perform additional or different duties from those set forth below to address business needs and changing business practices.

1. Create, plan and coordinate all daily activities and special events of assigned pool.

2. Assign and schedule pool staff.

3. Perform lifesaving practices and standards according to accepted industry standards.

4. Train and supervise staff and volunteers on assigned duties.

5. Meet program goals and objectives, collect and maintain relevant statistical records and data.

6. Accurately and timely complete pertinent record keeping, reports, testing and program paperwork according to established guidelines.

7. Perform daily pool opening and closing activities according to established guidelines.

8. Act in capacity of pool lifeguard.

9. Responsible for maintaining on-site security and safety of participants, staff, and others in the pool area, preparation and maintenance of incident records.

10. Enforce City and program rules and guidelines and conduct necessary discipline of staff and volunteers. 11. Train the Assistant Pool Manager to function as manager in the absence of the Pool Manager.

12. Maintain a safe and clean swimming pool environment.

13. Maintain personal fitness sufficient to perform the required duties.

14. Conduct and attend pertinent staff meetings as required during the season.

15. Perform other program-related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

The following generally describes the knowledge and ability required to enter the job and/or be learned within a short period of time in order to successfully perform the assigned duties. Minimum Requirement: Possession of a high school diploma or GED certificate. Ability to: Work a flexible work schedule, which may include evening, weekdays, weekends and holidays. Education/Training: Demonstrated swimming skills that meet the American Red Cross guidelines for aquatics program personnel.

Experience: Two years experience as a swim instructor/lifeguard at a public swimming facility; one year at an Assistant Pool Manager-level preferred. Prior experience working with age-appropriate groups. Familiarity with modern office methods, procedures and equipment. License or

Certificate: Possession of a valid driver's license. Possession of valid certificates from the American Red Cross in Lifeguard Training, Title 22, CPR for the Professional Rescuer, and Standard First Aid; Water Safety Instructor certificate is desirable.

THE POSITION: The Public Works Department at the City of San Mateo has an opportunity for up to three (3) interns who will assist on various municipal projects. Positions are considered for several fields of interest, including, but not limited to, the following examples:

• Capital Improvement Program (CIP) – Civil engineering majors with an interest in capital improvement projects, design of civil infrastructure, and construction delivery procedures. Assist with project standards, standard specifications and drawings, CAD drafting, plan review, construction cost estimates, data collection and analysis.
• Traffic Engineering – Civil engineering majors with an interest in parking, transportation, and traffic engineering. Assist with creating parking zone signage, mapping, program evaluations, document organization and filing, field data collection and analysis, traffic studies, and plan reviews.

DUTIES:

The primary duties will depend on the intern’s assigned position and associated field of interest and may include the following:

• • Assisting engineering project managers with administrative or technical tasks
  • Drafting engineering plans/standards in AutoCAD
  • Creating map displays using Google Earth or GIS
  • Gathering, compiling, and presenting data for engineering and construction projects
  • Organizing and tracking inspection reports, testing results, invoices, and other construction documentation
  • Conducting field assessments of the condition of streets, drainage/collection systems, and other infrastructure
  • Investigating and proposing responses to questions or inquiries from residents
  • Assist in other areas such as procurement, communication, public outreach, and public surveys.

In addition, the intern may work on a variety of other projects depending upon availability and workload.

Position Summary

Under general supervision, operates a variety of transit vehicles to transport passengers along specific, assigned routes according to the District's requirements. Provide service in a safe, courteous and reliable manner. Responsible for written reports and other information as required. Upon completion of the Golden Gate Transit Training Program, the employee operates regularly scheduled assignments. All runs will originate in either Santa Rosa, Novato or San Rafael.

Hourly Pay: $31.29/hour to $36.81/hour

 If selected for the position, new hires will need to complete Golden Gate Bridge, Highway & Transportation District’s Bus Operator Apprenticeship Program ($31.29/hr benefits not included) which is approximately twelve (12) weeks, Monday through Friday, 6:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Upon successful completion of training, pay increase granted to $33.13 per hour, plus benefits. All new hires will be required to complete a 120 probationary period upon completion of training.
