DEFINITION

Under general supervision from the Communications Supervisor, the Communications Operator operates a computer aided dispatch system receiving calls and dispatching police, fire or other City services.

This is a journey technical level position in which incumbents are expected to independently perform the full range of duties assigned. This class is distinguished from the Communications Supervisor in that the latter provides technical and functional supervision over assigned communication personnel.

THE DEPARTMENT

The Communications Center in the Support Services Division of the Hayward Police Department is responsible for dispatching both Police and Fire Services throughout the City of Hayward. The Hayward Police Department is one of 18 CALEA (Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement) accredited police departments in California and is committed to maintaining CALEA's high standards and broadly recognized excellence.
The Communications Center is frequently the first point of contact that a member of the public will have when requesting assistance from the City of Hayward. The information gathered by the communications operator during this contact is critical to a positive outcome. Minimum Qualifications

LATERAL REQUIREMENTS:

Experience: Two (2) years of experience as a public safety dispatcher for a Public Safety Answering Point, including heavy public contact while performing multiple tasks and using a computer-aided dispatch system.

Education: Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth (12th) grade.

Licenses and Certificates: Completion of the California Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) Basic Public Safety Dispatcher course is highly desirable.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

Typing Certificate: A typing certificate with 35 net words per minute 

1. Certificates will be accepted from a public school, business school or temporary agency; certificates from Internet testing services and/or home computer CD testing will NOT be accepted.
2. Typing certificate (or signed statement on official letterhead from the testing agency) must be dated no earlier than six (6) months prior to the date of the application filing.
3. Typing certificate (or signed letter) must state all of the following information:

· Five (5)-minute timed typing test.
· Gross typing speed in words per minute.
· Gross number of errors.
· Net words per minute

Under supervision, a Police Cadet is a non-sworn, part-time classification that assists police personnel in a variety of operations in order to gain practical knowledge of law enforcement. They will obtain practical work experience that supports their career goals.

Employees in this classification may receive training and experience in each of the below duties.

CLASS CHARACTERISITICS:

Incumbents in this position are interested in law enforcement (and the Union City Police Department will provide the opportunity to learn various aspects of police work where they can integrate academic philosophies with practical experience. • Writing warnings and citations for illegally parked vehicles.
• Observing and reporting hazardous conditions such as missing traffic signals, signs, and street markings that need to be repainted.

• Performing traffic control duties such as setting up barricades and temporary signs, directing traffic, and placing inoperative bags on broken parking meters.

Positions assigned to Fleet Maintenance may be responsible for:

• Reviewing and reporting vehicle deficiencies.
• Scheduling repair of vehicles and equipment.
• Transporting vehicles and equipment to repair shop.
• Arranging for tows.
• Entering and maintaining vehicle inventory/status log.
• Coordinating service, oil changes, and cleaning of vehicles.

The Yuba County Sheriff’s Department is currently accepting applications to establish an eligibility list for the classification of Correctional Officer.  Under continuing supervision incumbents perform a wide variety of support in two areas: corrections, in which incumbents ensure the security, safety and care of individuals in custody; and bailiff, in which incumbents ensure the safety and security of the courts and their personnel during court proceedings; and perform related work as assigned. The Yuba County Sheriff's Department is responsible for the administration of the Yuba County Jail and Jail staff. The Mission of the Yuba County Jail is to provide safe, efficient, humane and secure custody of all persons incarcerated. The county prisoner population is made up of those who are sentenced to county jail, those serving state prison sentences in the county jail under AB109, and those who are pre-trial and who have not yet been sentenced. The County of Yuba is recruiting for both Extra-Help and Full-Time Juvenile Corrections Officers I/II, in an effort to fill current vacancies and expand staffing levels. These positions are located on the Tri-County Youth Rehabilitation Campus which falls under the Juvenile Institutions Division of the Yuba County Probation Department.  The primary responsibilities of this flexibly staffed position are to: provide care, custody, supervision, and control of youth housed in the secured detention facilities while they are pending legal action or serving a post adjudication commitment; ensure and sustain a safe and secure environment for youth; and coordinate counseling and behavior modification activities associated with the operation of the facilities.

About Detention Services & Yuba County:

Our Department believes people can change and we can be instrumental in supporting that change.  We are  a small workplace family that supports one another to accomplish our mission and allow our team members to live full lives outside the workplace. Our Campus provides youth detention services to the communities of Yuba, Sutter, and Colusa Counties as well as several contract counties through our Camp Singer program.  We operate 24 hours a day, 365 days per year, and includes the Tri-County Juvenile Hall, Secure Housing Unit, and Maxine Singer Youth Guidance Center (Camp Singer), under a Joint Powers Agreement between the three counties. ABOUT THE POSITION

The Recreation Leader II (After School Coordinator) position provides high-level program support and services through the Parks and Recreation Department, which provides concrete, positive experiences for youth and promotes qualities essential to raising successful young people.  

Town ASEP (After School Enrichment Program) is designed for the Town’s elementary school students, providing daily activities and childcare. This position requires minimal supervision and includes the responsibility of ensuring that students are safely escorted to their After School Programs once school ends. 

This position may also work additional seasonal events for the Parks and Recreation Department throughout the year. 

This position is budgeted at 15-20 hours/week. A general schedule will be set, but the candidate needs to remain flexible to meet the program's needs.  

Start Date / Training Dates: August 25, 2025 
Work Schedule: Monday through Thursday, 1:00 PM – 5:00 PM. 

Program Dates: September 2, 2025 – May 31, 2026.
