The Position

 
The San Bruno Police Department is recruiting for entry-level Public Safety Dispatchers.  Public Safety Dispatchers are responsible for public safety dispatch and related records management activities. This position operates on a 24-hour, 365 days per year basis, and may be assigned to either a day, swing, or graveyard shift on a regular, rotational basis that includes nights, weekends, and holidays.  Public Safety Dispatchers perform a wide range of duties involving radio, telephone, and computers, applying various procedures and codes. Dispatchers receive and transmit emergency and non-emergency telephone and radio traffic as well as process communication reports, records, and radio logs, while maintaining
a high level of confidentiality.  Dispatchers may also support the Police Department by performing clerical tasks, training, assisting with fingerprinting, and being accountable for financial transactions.  This position is integral in supporting the goals and objectives of the City and Police Department.  

Examples of Duties

Essential Duties

• Receives and transmits emergency
  and non-emergency
  telephone and radio traffic.  

• Maintains and processes a variety of communications reports, records and radio logs.

• Operates a dispatch console, uses Computer Aided Dispatch (C.A.D.) System and other computer programs to process information and records.

• Responsible for various Record Management System (RMS) entries, some of these include but are not limited to citations, warrants, subpoenas. 

• Responsible for accurate and timely entries into the California Law Enforcement Telecommunication System (CLETS), as well as, the National Crime Information Center (NCIC).

• Maintains a high level of confidentiality.

• Performs collateral duties including a variety of related clerical tasks:
  records entry, assisting in fingerprinting and jail operations, which may include searching prisoners; and is accountable for handling cash, bond, and check transactions. 

• Performs related duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications 

 

Must be able to pass an extensive background investigation. 
 
Education

• Possession of a high school diploma or GED equivalent. Additional related college course work or degree preferred.

Experience

• At least one (1) year of related work experience requiring alertness and independent judgment, but no previous public safety dispatch experience is required.

Certificates and Licenses

• Must possess and maintain a valid California Driver’s License, Class C with a good driving record.

• Typing certificate issued within the last year verifying minimum typing speed of thirty-five (35) net words per minute with a maximum of nine (9) errors. Typing certificate must be submitted with application to be considered.  Online typing certificate permitted with application; formal test will be administered to final candidate.

• Completion within the last year of the POST Entry Level Dispatcher Selection Test Battery with a preferred minimum
  score of 48 or above;
  or CritiCall Dispatch passing test results within a year of application date.

The Department

The Parks and Recreation Department mission is to provide opportunities for physical, cultural and social well-being; protect and enhance the physical environment; and ensure the effective and efficient use of public facilities and open space. The Parks and Recreation Department is organized by program area, with each program administered by a supervisor, coordinator, or specialist. 

The Building Maintenance Division’s scope of duties includes, but is not limited to the following:

• Provides janitorial, preventative maintenance services, and necessary building and related equipment repairs to all of the City’s facilities, including interior and exterior work.
• Builds and/or installs items involving finish carpentry, painting, plumbing, mechanical, electrical, and other skilled crafts work.
• Manages contracts with vendors maintaining, repairing and upgrading building systems.
• Responds to emergency facility-related issues.
• Plans and executes minor maintenance projects, including tenant improvements, building system and energy efficiency projects, facility repairs and capital upgrades.
• Advises and supports the delivery of capital improvement projects.
• Maintains service records and time logs.
• Supports facilities for meetings and other special events.             

There are two current vacancies for this job classification. The shifts are as follows: 

Day Shift: Schedule is 7:00 am – 3:30 pm, Monday – Friday.
Swing Shift: Schedule is 4:00 pm – 12:30 am, Monday – Friday.

• Possess excellent vision and hearing skills, with ability to sit, talk, type, hear, and walk for extended periods of time as well as lift or move up to twenty-five (25) pounds.

Supplemental Information

Part-time temporary employees serve in an at-will capacity and understand that service with the City may be terminated at any time. This position does not provide any benefits, with the exception of paid sick leave. In accordance with the Healthy Workplaces, Healthy Families Act of 2014, all temporary, part-time, and seasonal employees, who on or after July 1, 2015, work in California for 30 or more days within a year from the commencement of employment are entitled to paid sick leave for prescribed purposes. Employees will accrue one hour of paid sick leave for every 30 hours worked and are entitled to use accrued sick days beginning on the 90th day of employment. Employees may use up to 24 hours (or 3 days) of accrued sick leave in each year of employment.

The Department

DEFINITION

The Parks and Recreation Department is seeking a qualified person for the position of Administrative Support (casual, part-time position).  Below you will find a general description of the position, however we are in need of someone to assist us with the following essential duties/tasks:

• General office support (i.e., answering phones, computer input, customer service).
