DESCRIPTION  

The City of Thousand Oaks is excited to announce the creation of a new Engineering Division Manager position within the Public Works Department. This newly established role, has been created to further strengthen our commitment to infrastructure excellence and service. Unlike similar roles in the City, this position has not been previously filled and offers a unique opportunity to shape and lead a critical division focused on engineering and construction of the City’s critical infrastructure. Depending on the qualifications and experience of the selected candidate, this position will be responsible for overseeing complex engineering projects related to the City's water and wastewater infrastructure, ensuring the continued reliability and advancement of these vital systems. 

The Public Works Department is seeking an innovative and proactive Engineering Division Manager who will be responsible for leading and managing the design, engineering and construction management to advance and protect the capital investments in the City’s critical public infrastructure.    

 

PRIMIARY RESPONSIBILITIES 

• Provide leadership to direct engineering and project management activities to advance challenging and comprehensive engineering capital projects.  

• Provide strategic and tactical planning by leveraging knowledge of engineering while aligning with the City’s overall goals.

The City of Simi Valley is seeking a qualified Senior Engineer to join its team. This position offers an excellent opportunity for civil engineers looking for variety, challenge, and meaningful work in public infrastructure.

The Senior Engineer will be responsible for managing complex capital improvement projects, conducting hydraulic studies, and performing advanced technical engineering tasks related to the planning, design, and construction of waterworks facilities. Key responsibilities include preparing plans, specifications, and cost estimates for a range of water infrastructure and public works projects, such as:

• Water main line replacements

• Water tank rehabilitation and replacement

• Pump station upgrades

The Senior Engineer works under the general supervision of a higher-level professional engineer and provides lead supervision to assigned engineering staff, ensuring quality, compliance, and timely delivery of projects.

 

                                 POSITION DETAILS:

• Regular full-time position
• 9/80 work schedule (every other Monday or Friday off)
• Salary range $52.06 to $66.95 hourly with Excellent Benefits (see below)

 

                             MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be: 

Education/Training: 

• Equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in engineering or architecture with specialized course work related to area of assignment.

Experience: 

• Four years of professional engineering experience related to area of assignment including one year of administrative and/or lead supervisory responsibility.

License or Certificate: 

• Possession of registration as a Professional Engineer in the State of California, or a licensed Architect in the State of California (when assigned to Building & Safety).
• Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate, valid driver’s license.
• Possession of, or ability to obtain, a Plans Examiner certificate may be required depending on area of assignment.

The City of Thousand Oaks has an excellent opportunity for a motivated team player to provide analytical, technical assistance, planning, and project-level support to administer and enforce the City’s Cross Connection Control Program.  Additional responsibilities may include assistance with regulation tracking and reporting, and provide a variety of other programmatic support related to the City’s drinking water and pretreatment (wastewater) programs.

Under the direction of the Water Quality Supervisor in the Environmental Compliance Division, the Assistant/Associate Environmental Compliance Analyst (Analyst) plays a critical role in protecting the City’s drinking water supply. This position is primarily responsible for developing and administering the City’s Cross Connection Control Program while ensuring compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local regulations.

We are seeking a collaborative self-starter to handle a range of responsibilities with competence and professionalism. The Analyst should demonstrate discretion and independent judgment, possess strong organizational skills, and have a proven ability to meet strict deadlines. The role requires handling sensitive issues with care and having excellent communication and interpersonal skills while working with the public, regulators, other City departments and other municipal agencies.

With additional experience, the Analyst may also provide analytic, technical, programmatic, and administrative support to a broader range of responsibilities within the Environmental Compliance Division, including other drinking water-related regulations, stormwater quality compliance and wastewater pretreatment.

The position will be filled at the Assistant or Associate Analyst level, depending on relevant prior education and work experience.

Primary responsibilities:   

• Implementing the City’s Cross Connection Control program and assist with the day-to-day operations and activities of the Environmental Compliance Division
• Conduct Cross Connection Control program field inspections of commercial, industrial, and residential facilities for Hazard Assessments
• Maintain, review and update related databases
• Review construction and plumbing plans for compliance; identify potential contamination risks
•  Enforce corrective actions with residents, business owners, and stakeholders
• Analyze and provide recommendations for updates to program-related municipal code

• Keep current with evolving regulations and industry best practices

Description 

We are seeking an innovative and proactive Sustainability Manager who will be responsible for leading and managing important environmental programs and projects for the City of Thousand Oaks! As a key Division Head and member of the Public Works Senior leadership team, the Sustainability Division Manager will lead and guide professional staff and will be instrumental in integrating the City’s vision, goals, and people strategy. This is an essential senior management position reporting to the Deputy Public Works Director. 

 

Primary Responsibilities: 

Oversee, coordinate, and manage key programs and projects in solid waste, organic/food and hazardous waste, water conservation, drought contingency planning and implementation, energy conservation and efficiency, distributed energy resources including solar, battery energy storage and microgrids, clean energy procurement, and electric vehicle charging infrastructure citywide. 

• Plan, develop, implement, and manage strategies to reduce resource use and waste, and minimize the City’s environmental footprint.  

• Promote innovative practices which are economically, socially, and environmentally sustainable. 

• Plan, develop and manage activities for electric vehicle support within the City.  

• Lead implementation of City’s climate action plan including tracking, monitoring and reporting of performance metrics and greenhouse gas inventory. 

• Develop and implement methods and procedures to monitor projects, research strategies, analyze findings, create progress reports, and inform leadership and partners of status to ensure effective collaboration.  

• Promote, gather and communicate sustainability resources and the City’s sustainability efforts within the community. 

• Facilitate community engagement, education, and partnerships, and foster productive relationships to advance sustainability goals.  

• Plan, develop and manage programs for energy conservation and efficiency, clean/renewable energy, and distributed energy resources. 

• Plan, develop and manage activities for a variety of water conservation and efficiency projects, and drought contingency.  

• Plan, develop and manage programs for waste management and waste reduction including organic waste, food recovery and distribution, recycling, and household hazardous waste. 

• Manage the preparation of plans, studies and reports relating to current and long-range City sustainability and resource conservation.  

• Develop, review, analyze and evaluate proposals to determine best value. 

• Select, mentor and supervise staff to deliver optimum services. Provide regular and supportive feedback to staff to assist in their development.  

• Coordinate and drive working relationships with key internal and external partners to achieve collaboration and results. 

• Develop and implement key performance indicators and metrics to measure operational effectiveness, identify areas of success and areas for improvement.  

• Evaluate external sustainability developments, advancements and opportunities to improve customer/user satisfaction, and enhance City’s sustainability program.

The City of Colfax is currently accepting applications for Maintenance Worker I. This is an entry level position in the Public Works department requiring a minimum of 1 year of experience in a semi-skilled maintenance occupation. Typical duties include: landscape maintenance, electrical and plumbing repairs, minor construction and light carpentry projects, cleaning public restrooms, keeping public streets and parks clean and in good repair. The employee will check storm drains, culverts and ditches; operate tools and equipment to patch and repair pavement, construct and maintain gutters, sidewalks and other incidental improvements. The ability to operate power tools and work safely, wearing appropriate PPE. Occasional maintenance will be required for the wastewater treatment plant and collection systems. We have an immediate opening for an Administrative Specialist position in the Public Works Department.  This position, which requires strong customer service and multi-tasking skills, will work a 9/80 schedule.

Primary responsibilities:

• Performs a wide variety of complex, sensitive, highly responsible, and confidential office administrative, secretarial, advanced clerical, and support functions
• Creates, formats, proofreads, and edits a variety of departmental documents and correspondence, such as reports, memoranda, letters, technical materials, agreements/contracts, change orders, task orders, and amendments
• Organizes and maintains accurate and up-to-date records and files in accordance with the City’s records management program
• Maintains calendars and meeting schedules, coordinates travel logistics, and processes and reconciles credit card transactions and expense reports
• Serves as liaison between the department and the public, City staff, other City agencies, and outside groups
• Maintains content on department webpage
