Position Summary

 

Under supervision, performs inspection, maintenance, troubleshooting, diagnosis, repair, removal, replacement and testing necessary to maintain all District vehicles, including record keeping and written verification of work accomplished as directed. 

 

Essential Responsibilities

 

• Responsible for major rebuilding, repair and/or removal and replacement of engines, transmissions, clutches, differentials, turbochargers, pumps, motors, injectors, cylinder heads, compressors and hydraulic systems, air brake, air systems, steering, air conditioning, and electrical systems and associated vehicle parts.
• Provides minor and incidental repairs to vehicles in general, including manufacture and/or repair of components to maintain equipment.
• Performs ongoing preventive maintenance, inspections and procedures, as directed, to provide the safest, cleanest, most economical and dependable transportation possible for District utilization.
• Provides normal and reasonable care of all District-owned property and tools provided
• Directly responsible for written communication concerning ongoing status of repairs completed, repairs in progress and outstanding repairs necessary to safely and economically provide vehicles for District transportation needs.
• Participates in general repairs necessary to all mechanical equipment supplementary to vehicle repairs and maintenance as directed.
• Generates and completes work orders in a Computerized Asset Management System (IBM Maximo).
• Assists apprentice mechanics, new employees and current employees in pursuing a high level of production, reliability and safety.
• Adheres to the safety and health rules and safe working practices applicable to his or her job
• Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with District employees, customers, vendors and all others contacted during the course of work using principles of excellent customer service. 
• Performs additional related duties as assigned 
• Regular and reliable attendance and performance are required

 

Minimum Qualifications

 

Education and/or Experience: 1) Completion of four (4) year apprenticeship program or approved equivalent; OR four years’ full-time experience in the repair of heavy duty diesel engines, air brakes, transmissions, differentials, and D.C. electrical; 2) Experience in the operation of machine tools common to repair shops, such as grinders, drill press, valve facers, lathes, boring bars, presses, etc.

 

Required License:  Must possess and maintain a current, valid California driver's license and satisfactory driving record. No more than two moving violations within the last 3 years. No DUI’s or Reckless Driving violations within the last 7 years. Must be able to obtain a Class A or B license with “P” endorsement within the six-month introductory/probationary period. Operates District vehicles on a regular basis.

 

REQUIRED TOOLS:

• Must have a full set of journey level hand tools to accomplish assigned work.

  

HOURS:

• Shifts are scheduled based on seniority in classification.
• Maintenance Department operates 7 days per week, 24 hours per day.
• Must be available to work all shifts.

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Occasionally lift up to 100 lbs. maximum with assistance.  Frequently lift, carry and manipulate up to 50 pounds. Working inside and outside in all weather conditions. Works around fumes, odors and dust in an occasionally high noise level environment with appropriate personal protective equipment.

 

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

 

Knowledge of: 

• Common maintenance and repair practices related to heavy duty diesel engine, transmission, steering, electrical, electronic controls, air, hydraulic, brake, fuel and power train systems 
• Common maintenance and repair practices relating to multiplex and programmable logic controller electronic control systems
• District Policies and Labor Agreement (MOU) Provisions
• Occupational health and safety rules and working practices applicable to this position 

 

Skills or Ability to: 

• Use grinders, drill press, diagnostic computers, digital volt/ohm meters, smog testing equipment and other tools and equipment commonly found in a bus/truck fleet shop environment
• Troubleshoot, diagnose, repair and/or replace components common to bus, truck, and automotive equipment fleets
• Read, understand, follow and/or apply oral and written instructions such as complex technical instructions in maintenance manuals, wiring diagrams and schematics, and technical service publications
• Communicate clearly and effectively both orally and in writing 
• Establish and maintain cooperative and productive working relationships 
• Perform computerized data entry and basic business office technology functions such as use of email, data entry, work order processing and materials requisition

San Mateo County Health - San Mateo Medical Center and its outpatient clinics are seeking experienced Certified Medical Assistants - Spanish Speaking Preferred to join our care teams. The current vacancies are Regular vacancies and Extra Help vacancies. Future vacancies may include extra-help, limited term, unclassified, and regular classified positions.

Extra Help - Extra-help positions are short-term employment for up to 1040 hours which is equivalent to about six months; however, employment might end sooner depending on the needs of the hiring departments. Extra-help assignments are at-will and the employee is paid on an hourly basis. Some extra help positions are eligible for benefits under the Affordable Care Act. Extra-help workers are not guaranteed permanent status at the end of the extra-help assignment.

Term - Term positions are designated for a specific and limited period of time, anywhere from 6 months to a maximum of 3 years depending on the assignment. Benefits package for term positions are similar to regular positions EXCEPT for retirement. Term employees receive a 401A retirement package and are not eligible for retiree health benefits or a defined benefit pension.

Unclassified - Unclassified positions are at-will for a limited duration, typically associated with grant or other special funding. These positions are not covered by San Mateo County Civil Service Rules; and there is no formal probation period. The following are the same for classified and unclassified positions: salary, increases and other forms of compensation; accrual of sick leave, vacation, overtime, holiday and leaves of absence; health, dental, vision, long & short term disability, and retirement.

Medical Services Assistants II who are assigned to the clinics and perform advanced patient care duties as defined in the classification specification shall receive a differential of 6.2% in addition to all other compensation.
 

Examples Of Duties

Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Accurately take and record the condition, respiration, pulse, temperature and blood pressure of patients; record other pertinent information as observed or measured.
• Apply non-sterile dressings and administer non-medicated treatments under the supervision of a registered nurse, licensed physician, surgeon, podiatrist, nurse practitioner or physician assistant.
• Carry out rehabilitation procedures as directed by therapists; perform a range of motion body movement with/for patients; position and exercise patients.
• Assist in therapeutic milieu programs.
• Advise patients on the use of restorative equipment.
• Observe and practice proper isolation techniques.
• Operate various types of sterilization equipment.
• Transport specimens, medical records and related items.
• Enter and retrieve a variety of information in automated systems.
• Greet patients at clinics and escort patients.
• Perform related duties as assigned.

 
With additional training and/or certification(s), some employees may perform the following duties under conditions required by code and department policy:

• Perform injections including immunizations.
• Perform finger stick tests of all types including glucose testing.
• Perform skin tests including PPDs.
• Perform venipuncture and blood draws.
• Perform hearing and vision tests.
• Perform waived CLIA tests including dipstick UAs, and pregnancy tests.
• Provide for proper tracking and recording of laboratory tests.
• Take patient histories including risk factors.
• Set up, administer and record the results of EKGs.
• Follow provider orders regarding prescribed treatments including assisting patients with self-administration of medications.
• Teach and counsel patients on a variety of health related subjects as directed.

 

Qualifications

Certification Requirement:
Possession of a Medical Assistant Certificate or a certificate of completion or degree from an accredited medical assisting program is required. A certificate of completion of an approved medical assisting program must be submitted at the time of application.

Bilingual Fluency:
Some positions may require bilingual skills. Fluency in both English and Spanish is required to be considered for a bilingual position.

Education and Experience:
Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities is qualifying.  A typical way to qualify is:

One year of experience in an outpatient clinic or doctor's office as a nurse's assistant or medical assistant.

Knowledge of:

• Principles, techniques and procedures specific to area of assignment.
• Principles and techniques in delivering patient care services related to personal hygiene, comfort, treatment, transportation, rehabilitation and physical or psychosocial needs.
• Infection control.
• Diagnostic imaging.
• Safe lifting techniques.

• Elder and child abuse, and domestic violence reporting requirements.

Other Requirements:

POSITION

The City of Daly City is looking for people interested in working 10-20 hours per week in a variety of settings selected by the Department of Library and Recreation Services. Our current openings are in the Recreation Division and may be in the areas of the Afterschool Youth Recreation Program, Aquatics Program or Facility Attendant. This position will report directly to the Recreation Program Coordinator or Recreation Program Supervisor and will work various hours throughout the week, including evenings and weekends

DEFINITION

Under general supervision, a Recreator III independently performs assigned tasks which serve the public use of municipal recreation facilities and other duties as required.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

Open and close facilities following established guidelines, set up equipment needed for facility programs, perform routine maintenance and cleanup for assigned facilities, collect fees for facility use, maintain order and discipline in assigned facilities and programs by enforcing City and Departmental policies, may facilitate in assigned program areas, may supervise other part-time staff, volunteers, or court workers as assigned, and maintain accurate records and reports. May include specific assignments such as senior swim instructor, senior lifeguard, facility attendant and assisting with after school or summer programs. Other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge of: General facility operations, intermediate lesson instruction techniques for assigned area, and safety practices for assigned programs.

Ability to: Follow written and oral instructions, meet and communicate effectively with members of the public, carry out assignments requiring average physical strength such as setting up tables and chairs, learn and progress in this position, direct others, understand and enforce written and oral rules, regulations and policies, solve minor disciplinary problems, interact positively and cooperate with co-workers, respond politely to customers, work as a team member, function under demanding time pressure, respond in a positive manner to supervision, and attend work and perform duties on a regular and consistent basis.

Experience: A minimum of two years working or volunteering with people in a customer service position.

Education: Graduation from high school or equivalent.

License: Possession of a valid Class C California Driver’s License is desirable.

Certification:  Possession of an American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification is required to work in the Aquatics area as a lifeguard.  Possession of an American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor Certification is desirable to work in the Aquatics area as swim instructor.

Responsible for overseeing facilities and parks during reservations, programs, and activities. Supervise facility events; ensure facility is set-up according to event requirements including all official city supported meetings/special events. Monitor youth sports programs within the facilities; address participant and parent concerns; provide lead direction to sports officials. Promote aquatic programs, assisting senior guard, and aquatics assistant. Conduct rescue operations and administer CPR and First Aid. Direct communication and contact with swimmers and the public.

Knowledge of:

Basic child guidance principles and practices. General techniques of various swim strokes.

Ability to:

Be active, lift and/or carry equipment and supplies. Work in a leadership role with children and adults

Emphasis Three: YOUTH PROGRAM LEADER:

Assists in preparing instructional, craft, and other materials; participates in, and encourages, play activities with the children; may assist in providing tutorial and/or remedial activities in small groups. Provides support duties for child development services in Youth Services programs; prepares and serves snacks based on established guidelines; performs clean-up and food storage duties. Assists with maintaining required and appropriate documentation; including observation notes, logs, and other records. May participate in public relations, outreach, and community education activities. Attends staff training, workshops, and courses as directed by supervisor

Knowledge of:

Ongoing programs and upcoming events. Child development services, operations, and activities. Basic computer applications such as word processing and databases

Ability to:

Work well with children. Able to provide encouragement for participation in programs.

Superior customer service; basic office procedures; Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher); volunteer management and Registration management applications; and programs and service providers for older adults.

Ability to:

Communicate effectively verbally and in writing; maintain confidential records; work well with older adults (50+); organize schedules; meet deadlines; learn on the job; collaborate with patrons, volunteers and colleagues across City departments.  Fluency in Spanish, Cantonese or Tagalog a plus.

The Redwood City Police Department is currently accepting applications for Per-Diem COMMUNICATIONS DISPATCHERS.  Using a sophisticated Computer Aided Dispatch terminal, the Communications Dispatcher receives emergency calls from within the public requesting police, fire, medical, or other emergency service; determine priority, and dispatch police, fire, ambulance, or other emergency units as necessary and in accordance with established procedures. Step 1:  Application Submission: All applicants are required to submit an online application to be considered. Step 2:  Written Examination: Applicants for the Sheriff’s Correctional Officer have four options for meeting the written examination requirement – (a) submittal of a valid and passing T-Score on the POST Entry-Level Law Enforcement Test Battery (PELLETB) exam dated within the last 12 months prior to the date of application or (b) possession of a passing score on the National Testing Network (NTN) Corrections REACT Examination dated within the last 12 months prior to the date of application or (c) possession of a California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation certification (CDCR) or possession of an Adult Corrections Officer Core completion certificate from a certified Standard and Training for Corrections (STC) academy from the Board of State and Community Corrections (BSCC) or (d) possession of an associate’s degree or higher from an accredited U.S. college or university. 

 

a) POST Entry-Level Law Enforcement Test Battery (PELLETB): This exam must be completed in less than 2.5 hours, and it must be passed with a minimum T-Score of 42. To schedule for the exam, visit the South Bay Regional Public Safety Training Consortium's website at: www.theacademy.ca.gov.  

 

b) National Testing Network (NTN) Corrections REACT Exam: Passing scores accepted for this exam are Video Judgement Test 65% or higher; Reading 75% or higher; and Count 70% or higher. This examination is administered directly by the National Testing Network, and it may be taken virtually or in person at testing sites nationwide. Applicants are responsible for contacting South Bay Regional Public Safety Training Consortium and self-enrolling in the required written exam. You must take the examination first before applying. Candidates who have already completed the National Testing Network (NTN) examination may submit their results through NTN to our agency. Education and Experience:

Education:

The examination/selection process will consist of the steps detailed in order below.

Step 3:  Application Appraisal (weight: 100%): Applicants who meet the written examination requirement as outlined in Step 2 and meet the qualifications for the position will be placed on the eligible list for a period of six months.

The Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) is a 15.7 MDG sub-regional facility that serves an estimated 164,545 customers  administering the annual operation and maintenance budget over $12.8 million with a staff of 34 professional and technical personnel.  The City of San Mateo is building a team tasked with the safe and continuous operation of the current expansion of this conventional activated sludge plant by introducing new facilities including; preliminary treatment, primary treatment, enhanced biological nutrient removal/membrane bioreactors (BNR/MBR), biological and chemically enhanced treatment (BioACTIFLO), and additional upgrades to existing process equipment. A vital and instrumental member of this team is the WWTP Operator III.

The Position

This position will receive general direction from the Chief Plant Operator and instruction from their Shift Supervisor to provide daily guidance to lower level operators and trainees. The WWTP Operator III will be responsible for supporting these efforts to guide, develop and mentor staff on their assigned shift, act in a supervisory capacity in the absence of the Shift Supervisor, and is the assigned lead in getting both scheduled and unscheduled work completed. Those who have prepared themselves and are ready for the challenge to use their skills as a journey-level wastewater professional should seriously consider this opportunity.

This position is assigned rotating shifts working nights, weekends, and holidays with on-call emergency response 24 hours per day.  However, along with this challenge is the benefit of working  a 12-hour shift that results in a very favorable work/life balance and requires the minimum commuting days as compared to other standard 8-hour shifts.

The Duties

Depending upon assignment, duties may include, but are not limited to the following.

Operate wastewater treatment facilities to control flow and processing of wastewater, sludge and effluent; monitor gauges, meters and control panels; observe variation in operating conditions, interpreting meter and gauge readings and test results to determine process requirements.

• Operate valves and gates; start and stop pumps, engines and electric motors to control and adjust flow and treatment processes; operate and maintain boilers; perform routine maintenance work on valves, tanks, related equipment and facilities to optimize performance.
• Maintain appropriate plant records to support water quality goals.
• Perform the duties of the Designated Operator-in-Charge when required in accordance with State regulations.
• Operate rolling vehicles and stationary machinery as required to perform essential job functions.
• Foster and maintain good working relationships and provide excellent customer service in the course of their work.
• Assist in the inventory, requisition, and purchase of supplies and materials.
• Supervise and train less experienced operators on assigned shift.
