As a Permit Technician, you will perform a variety of technical and clerical duties including but not limited to, providing information and direction to the public related to community development, planning, building, and engineering permit processes. You will process building permits and perform minor plan checks. Sitting at the front counter, you will assist with resolving permit or project related issues; and provide information and direction to the public on building issues. The Deputy Town Attorney will work with the Town Attorney to support the Town Council, Town Manager, and all Town departments. The Town anticipates that the Deputy Town Attorney will work especially closely with the Community Development Department, including the Planning Division and code enforcement staff. The ideal candidate will be an experienced municipal law generalist with five years of professional legal experience as an attorney, have extensive California planning and land use experience, and an understanding of California’s evolving laws regarding the development of housing. We are seeking an attorney who can quickly assess legal issues, identify options for action, employ creativity and problem-solving skills, and communicate equally effectively with elected and appointed officials, Town staff at all levels of the organization, members of the public, land use applicants, and opposing counsel. This position is well suited to someone who is collaborative, able to work at a fast pace, with exceptional interpersonal skills and a real desire to serve the community.
JOB DESCRIPTION
Under general direction, assists the Town Attorney in providing professional legal services, assistance, and advice to the Town Council, all Town departments, the Town Manager, and various boards, committees, and commissions; renders legal opinions in writing and orally; prepares, reviews, and assists in negotiating proposed agreements; reviews and comments on various legal documents; prepares and presents various reports and information updates; coordinates assigned activities with other Town departments, officials, outside agencies, and the public; and performs related duties as assigned.
