The San Bruno Police Department

In addition to graduation from high school, the following are required: 

• At least 21 years of age

• Must have successfully completed a California P.O.S.T. Basic Training Police Academy within the past thirty (30) from date of hire; or 

• Must show proof of current enrollment in a California P.O.S.T. Basic Training Police Academy, and must successfully complete academy prior to appointment. 

Lateral applicants must be able to meet all Entry Level requirements listed above; and 

• Must currently be employed as a full time paid, sworn police officer for at least two years, or have been employed for at least 24 months as a full time paid sworn police officer in a civilian governmental jurisdiction prior to application; or  

• Possession of a valid California P.O.S.T. Basic Certificate or equivalent as approved by P.O.S.T. 

• Must have successfully completed a current California P.O.S.T. Basic Training Police Academy or equivalency.

The Assistant Civil Engineer is an entry-level class in the Civil Engineer series. This class is distinguished from the Associate Civil Engineer by the performance of the more routine tasks and duties assigned to positions within the Civil Engineer series. Incumbents perform less complex office and field engineering work and assignments are generally routine or closely related within a framework of established procedures. The Assistant Civil Engineer receives general supervision from higher level professional engineers and may exercise technical or functional supervision over technical engineering staff. Position Summary

Under general direction, performs work in connection with a wide variety of engineering projects related to inspections, repairs and upgrades of District bridges, buildings and other structures and facilities. Essential Responsibilities

• Oversees work of and manages contracts with professional architectural and engineering consultants, contractors, utility companies, property owners 
• Confers with other departments and regulatory agencies relative to engineering District facility projects and work programs to ensure proper coordination of all related activities and responsibilities
• Makes field trips and inspections to resolve differences of opinion between engineers and contractors' representatives as they relate to facility repairs and improvements
• Conducts and attends conferences and meetings in connection with planning and design of improvement and construction projects
• Makes oral presentations
• Knows and follows the safety and health rules and safe working practices applicable to his or her job
• Ensures that employees under his or her supervision follow established safe work practices and obey all safety rules

As an as-needed employee, this is an "at-will" position and there is no guarantee of hours. Hours are limited to 999 in a fiscal year or 960 hours in a fiscal year for retired CalPERS annuitants.

Minimum Qualifications

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Minimum Education Requirements: 

Graduation from high school or possession of a GED

 

Minimum Experience Requirements: 

• The equivalent of two (2) years of paid employment experience in public safety dispatching within the past five (5) years of which at least one (1) year included solo status; or
• Five (5) years of current paid employment with a public safety agency or private emergency medical services agency, with high level Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD), radio and/or telephone operation; or
• Successful completion of probationary period as a Public Safety Dispatcher I with the City of Santa Clara.

 

License/Certifications: 

Possession of a current P.O.S.T. Basic Dispatch certificate is required.

 

Other Requirements:  

• Incumbents must have the ability to work, as assigned, on schedules that may include Saturdays, Sundays, holidays, and non-traditional work hours.
• Must be able to perform all the essential functions of the job assignment.  All candidates will be required to pass a City background investigation, which will include fingerprinting and/or psychological testing.
