The City of Berkeley invites you to apply for the position of Assistant Civil Engineer! The Public Works Department supports the City’s extensive network of public infrastructure. Engineers in this department work on projects across the city that advance City initiatives such as the Climate Action Plan, Pedestrian Plan, and Vision Zero. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

A typical way of gaining the knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position is:
Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university with major coursework in civil engineering and two (2) years of professional civil engineering experience in design and construction work at a level equivalent to the City of Berkeley Junior Public Works Engineer classification.

Other requirements include:

• Possession of a California State Certification of Registration as a Professional Engineer

Additionally, the role involves tracking and reconciling financial, operational, and statistical records. The Coordinator also provides confidential support to management, staff, and various boards. This position requires knowledge of asset management, property maintenance, construction project management, capital planning and systems management, budget preparation, and financial modeling to analyze portfolio performance. 

What Our Team Is Looking For:

A bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university with major coursework in community development, business, economics, urban planning, civil engineering, architecture, or a related field; and

As a Mechanic I/II, you will:

• Operate computerized diagnostic instruments plus a full range of hand, air, and electric tools.

• Maintain concise and clear repair records in our repair management software.

• Perform welding, metal fabrication, tire work, and minor body repairs.

• Provide emergency field assistance and respond to critical fleet issues on a 24-hour standby.
