Sausalito Parks and Recreation is Seeking Vibrant Skilled Recreation Leaders

This recruitment is for Fall Events and Activities such as Bocce and Volleyball Referee, Chili Cook-off, A Toast to Sausalito, and other fun classes, activities, and events. The ideal candidate will be available Monday through Thursday for at least one evening shift per week August 18th through October 30th.

Pay: $16.50 - $17.50/ Hr

The City of Sausalito is recruiting for part-time temporary help for the fall season of recreation activities and City-wide events.  The first of these is the Bocce League referee.  

Bocce Referee
As a Sausalito Parks and Recreation Bocce Referee, you are responsible for set-up, management, and cleanup of scheduled Bocce matches. You are the enforcer of rules, an impartial judge, and an advocate for fun and fair play, all while maintaining a positive attitude and providing a friendly environment when communicating with teams and keeping score. This position reports directly to the Recreation Supervisor.  The ideal candidate must meet all minimum requirements as listed below and be confident and capable of dealing with conflict and intense games.  

Event Staff

As a Sausalito Parks and Recreation Event Staff member, you are responsible for actively participating in set-up, cleanup, and management of your assigned event.  You must arrive on time and remain until the event leader releases you after the event.   Event staff may set up chairs, tables, stages, corridors, and barriers.  You may be asked to perform traffic control or direct drivers to parking.  The ideal candidate will have a can-do attitude, meet all of the minimum requirements below, remain calm under pressure and in the face of adversity, be cheerful, friendly, and love the diversity of people. 

The minimum requirements for the position are:

• Reliable transportation to and from games or events
• Ability and commitment to arrive on time and remain until duties are completed and you are released
• Confidence and capability to manage conflict with grace and calm
• Commitment to long hours, days, evenings, or on weekends depending on the assigned event schedule
• Must be 14 years of age or older and must obtain a WORK PERMIT if under 18
• Able to work independently

PAL (Police Activities League) Program Attendants work in the formal Suisun City classification of Recreation Specialist I. Starting hourly rate will depend on qualifications. This position works on average 19 hours per week.

 

The Department: The Recreation, Parks and Marina Department is responsible for the operations and programs of the Suisun City Marina, the Senior Center and the Joseph A. Nelson Center, including preschool, after-school programs at various sites, recreation classes and sports leagues, community events and special event rentals.

 

The Position: PAL Program Attendants work with Suisun City’s PAL Program and with area teenagers ages 13-19 to implement educational and recreational activities: tutoring, sports, games, mini-excursions, competitions, contests, seminars, and special events, and provide general support to the program’s Recreation Supervisor. The Greater Vallejo Recreation District is a Special Service District that has been serving area residents for over sixty years. As a Special Service District, GVRD operates as a separate government agency from the City of Vallejo. GVRD manages 407 acres of public park space including 20 neighborhood parks, 10 community parks, 6 special purpose parks, and Olympic-size swimming pool and 4 community centers.  GVRD maintains over 1,000 acres of public land.

GENERAL SUMMARY

This position is responsible for planning, organizing, and supervising staff in landscape activities, defining and adhering to fertilization requirements, conducting inspections of grounds, and responding to resident concerns.

Supervise and participate in the preparation, application and use of chemicals fertilizers and pesticides; prepare and maintain records for monthly pesticides report; inspect pesticide storage facilities for compliance with state and local laws and regulations.

THE POSITION

The Child Care Supervisor plans, organizes and oversees the operation, maintenance, safety, activities and staff of a pre-school or school age child care program, including direct program delivery, training and evaluation of assigned staff, conducting program registration; developing program promotional materials; communicating with school personnel, center families and community members; keeping and maintaining records and producing reports; and meeting all requirements of grant funding.

• Instructs and supervises children; facilitates and leads classroom activities.
• Assists with the establishment of the program budget; tracks expenditures and administers budget.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Any combination equivalent to experience and education that demonstrates possession of the requisite knowledge, skill, and abilities.  A typical way of gaining the knowledge, skill and ability outlined  in the job spec is:  

• Completion of 15 units in Early Childhood Education, Recreation Administration, or related coursework, AND 
• At least three (3) years of teaching experience in a child care center or comparable group child care program.
• An Associate of Arts degree in Early Childhood Education, Recreation Administration, or related field may substitute for one year of experience.
• A Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education, Recreation Administration, or related field may substitute for two years of experience. 

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

• Candidates must meet all qualifications in accordance with current legal and regulatory requirements for working with children in the age group in their program.
• Must be willing to work the hours (work schedule) required for the assigned Center.
• Prefer possession of a valid California Driver's license.

This job entails setting up for events and rentals, opening and closing facilities, general janitorial services, sports field preparation, working in concessions and selling food during sports games. After School Program Technician I's work in the formal Suisun City classification of Recreation Specialist II. Starting hourly rate will depend on qualifications. This position works on average 19-29 hours per week.

The Position: Under general supervision, this position involves organizing, leading, and coordinating a variety of indoor and outdoor recreational and educational activities for an Afterschool Program. This role is classified as Temporary Part-Time to support both seasonal and year-round recreational programs.

On April 29, 2025, Suisun City Council approved a new contract between the Suisun City RPM Department and the Fairfield-Suisun Unified School District (FSUSD). This agreement expands after school programming to include to grades TK-5 at Dan O. Root Elementary and Crescent Elementary Schools, making the Suisun City RPM Department the sole provider of after school services at both locations. This is a significant milestone for the RPM department and a reflection of the quality and dedication of our team.  We are excited to continue providing high-quality programs for our community's youth.

The City of San Rafael Library and Recreation Department is now accepting applications for the position of Facilities Attendant (Athletic Fields).    This position is responsible for supervision of athletic fields during assigned work hours while providing a positive and welcoming presence at the park.  The Facilities Attendant serves as an ambassador to park visitors, ensuring renters have access to their permitted spaces, unlocking soccer goals as needed, and promoting responsible use of the facility.  The Facilities Attendant also positively enforces park and field rules, encourages users to clean up after themselves, and helps to maintain a safe, respectful, and enjoyable environment for all.  Bilingual in Spanish is preferred but not required.

The Administrative Assistant will perform general clerical work and assist with the Construction Division administrative tasks.

 

This is a supportive role in the construction division with high use of various computer software, research, problem solving and communication skills for a person at an intermediate level. Supervision

This position reports to the Chief of Construction. Assorted tasks may be supervised by other division staff. The position supervises no other staff and generally works independently but in frequent communication with coworkers and supervisors.

Physical Demands

Wages:

As a Maintenance Worker II in our Streets Division, you will help keep Mill Valley’s streets and infrastructure safe, functional, and looking their best. Working under general supervision, you will take on a range of skilled and hands-on tasks including paving, concrete work, storm drain cleaning, and street repair.

Your day might include operating construction equipment, mixing and pouring concrete for sidewalks or curbs, clearing debris from storm drains ahead of the rainy season, or resurfacing a neighborhood street. You will also help direct traffic around work zones, respond to emergency repair needs, and may lead small crews on specific assignments.
