Camp Newark is seeking a confident, creative, and organized leader to serve as an Activity Coordinator for our dynamic summer camp program. This role is ideal for individuals who thrive in high-energy environments and are passionate about creating meaningful experiences for youth ages 6–11. 

The Activity Coordinator plays a key leadership role in planning and delivering engaging daily programming while supporting and supervising camp staff. This position requires strong communication, organization, and leadership skills, along with the ability to create a fun, structured, and safe camp environment. 

Key Responsibilities: 

• Create, schedule, and implement creative camp activities for youth ages 6–11, including arts and crafts, sports, games, and STEM-based enrichment. 

• Lead, mentor, and evaluate camp counselors, including training and delegating responsibilities. 

• Coordinate daily camp schedules, special events, and field trips. 

• Maintain clear and professional communication with parents regarding camper experiences and program information. 

• Ensure a safe, inclusive, and engaging environment for all participants. 

• Support overall camp operations and assist with problem-solving as needed. 

This position requires working both indoors and outdoors in a fast-paced summer camp setting. 

WORK SCHEDULE 

Summer-only position (June – August) 

Monday–Friday 

30–35 hours per week

Job Description:

Minimum Qualifications:

Recreation Leader I/II
The City of Foster City is searching for talented, energetic, responsible individuals who are serious about having fun! If you can think on your feet and be a fun team player, this could be the position for you! As a Recreation Leader, you’ll be responsible for implementing quality youth and teen programs and providing a safe environment for our participants. This is a part-time, seasonal, non-benefited position limited to approximately 20 hours per week and 980 hours in a fiscal year. Summer Camps

The Vibe Teen Center
We are looking for Recreation Leaders to assist with supervision, lead recreational activities, supervise rentals, and plan special events for teens. This position will start in June and Recreation Leaders must be able to work on a Friday or work a weekend shift each week. Work hours will vary, but typically will be from:

Recreation Leader I: Completion of eighth grade. No previous experience required. Volunteer or paid experience with groups of children is desirable.

Recreation Leader II: Completion of the ninth grade. Experience as a participant in a variety of recreation activities. Some experience in group leadership is desirable.

Special Requirements 
Ability to lift and move equipment (up to 25 lbs.); complete forms and reports; ability to set-up and coordinate activities; remain calm and use good judgment in difficult and emergency situations; work flexible hours. Physical strength and stamina will be required in some positions to perform demonstrations and leads activities. 

Licenses, Certificates, Registration 

• Certificates: American Red Cross Community First Aid and Safety Course or equivalent (including adult, child infant CPR, and Standard First Aid) or ability to obtain at the beginning of employment.

Camp Orinda is a full-day (9:00 am to 4:00 pm) traditional camp for 6 to 11 year olds.

Camp Orinda Jr. is a half-day camp (9:15 am to 12:45 pm) for 3 1/2 to 5-year olds.

Essential Duties:

• Execute the camp curriculum in accordance with the Camp Director and Recreation Coordinator.

The Position: Learning Facilitators will be responsible for leading high-quality and connected learning experiences with children and collaborating with the other staff in a classroom environment for the Big Lift Summer Program. Inspiring Summers Camps: The camps serve children reading below grade level in areas where the majority of youth qualify for free or reduced lunch. These summer learning experiences are a critical part of San Mateo County's strategy to dramatically reduce the number of youth who cannot read on grade level, a problem that disproportionately affects youth of color and socioeconomically disadvantaged youth. Location: Big Lift Inspiring Summer Learning Facilitators will be assigned to work at one of eight camps with children who will be entering kindergarten, first, second, or third grade in the Fall. The camps are located in Daly City, Half Moon Bay, Millbrae, Pacifica, Pescadero, San Bruno, and South San Francisco.
 
Schedule: This 6 to 7-week internship will begin with 8 days of required training and will then continue with a 4 to 5-week assignment in one of our learning camps. The camp assignment will either be part-time (20-28 hours per week, 4-5 hours per day Monday-Thursday and all day on Friday) or full-time (35-40 hours per week, 7-8 hours per day Monday-Friday).
 
MANDATORY IN-PERSON TRAINING WILL BEGIN TUESDAY, MAY 26, OR MONDAY, JUNE 1, 2025, depending on site placement.

Qualifications

These positions are designed to support college-aged students, recent graduates, and paraprofessionals working in youth education.
 
Education or Experience: Experience working with youth or a demonstrated interest in working with youth. Examples include experience coaching, tutoring, providing childcare, and taking child development coursework. Experience in theater, arts, music, youth development, early childhood, social justice, and science is also preferred.

QUALIFICATIONS 
Applicants must be high school graduates with experience working with youth in a recreation setting.  Energetic, self-motivated, creative, and organized.  Able to work as part of a team.   

SUPERVISION 
Under the general supervision of the Program Coordinator, Summer Camp Site Leaders are responsible for the day to day operations and implementation of curriculum of their assigned summer day camp, which offer youth and teens daily activities including arts, crafts, games, field trips and special events.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES 

• Plan and leads arts, crafts and games according to the theme of the week.
• Serve as a mentor and role model to campers.
• Work as part of a team of camp leaders. 
• Safely and appropriately supervise campers on off-site field trips.
• Use positive discipline and communicate effectively with parents/guardians.
• Supervise and mentor part-time staff.
• Participate in weekly Leadership Training Meetings with the Day Camp Leadership Team.
• Monitor supplies and create weekly supply list.
• Perform duties within OSHA standards.
• Gain experience supervising and mentoring part-time staff. 

PROGRAM ASSISTANT (SUMMER CAMP SITE MANAGER)

Salary Range: $18.52 to $30.68/hour

QUALIFICATIONS 
Applicants must be high school graduates and have experience working with youth in a recreation setting.  Energetic, self-motivated, creative, and organized.  Able to work as part of a team.  This is a Monday through Friday, 20 to 37.5-hour position that requires open availability.   

SUPERVISION 
Under the general supervision of the Program Coordinator, the Summer Camp Site Manager is responsible for on-site supervision of staff and participants of multiple camps located at the same site.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES  

• Serve as a mentor and role model to campers.
• Work as part of a team of camp leaders.
• Safely and appropriately supervise campers on off-site field trips.
• Use positive discipline and communicate effectively with parents/guardians.
• Coordinate camp activity rotation schedule and site logistics to ensure efficient operations.
• Maintain adequate inventory of camp supplies and equipment within budgetary guidelines.
• Supervise and mentor Summer Day Camp Site Leaders and Program Leaders, including adherence to Town policies and procedures.
• Participate in weekly Leadership Training Meetings with all Camp Site Leaders.
• Use positive discipline and communicate effectively with parents/guardians.
• Perform duties within OSHA standards.
