SALARY

BASIC EXAMPLE OF DUTIES

Duties may include, but are not limited to the following:

• Perform a variety of unskilled/semi-skilled maintenance or custodial duties involving manual labor of facilities, parks, storm drains, streets, etc.
• Clean and inspect facilities for vandalism or potential hazards.
• Sanitize surfaces, repair minor plumbing problems, diagnose basic sewer issues, replace components on fixtures.
• Maintain area(s) as assigned including parks and public buildings, performing basic repairs, inspections and landscaping.
• Load and unload supplies and materials.
• Assist with various areas of public works such as minor asphalt repairs, brush removal, facility repairs, stewardship of protected species, etc.
• Perform related duties as assigned.

What You'll Do

Primary responsibilities:

• Perform skilled work in the pruning, care, and maintenance of trees and grounds maintenance, including chemical application duties

This is for individuals that have no prior law enforcement experience and have not received POST certified police academy training. Trainees are paid while attending a POST-certified Police Academy. About the Position

The City of San Carlos is seeking a full-time Associate Engineer in our Public Works Department. This position performs professional and technical civil engineering work in support of the City’s public works and private development projects. Responsibilities will range from simpler projects and to more complex ones. Employees in this job class provide general engineering support and direction to a variety of public and private projects. Projects worked on may include civil works projects including: roads, drainage, grading, buildings, water and wastewater pipelines and treatment facilities, tanks, generators, parks and landscaping, bike paths, environmental mitigation and other related subjects.

The Associate Engineer is distinguished from the Assistant Engineer by the level of experience in the field of municipal engineering and the level of job knowledge.  This is a more specialized class wherein incumbents are charged with performing a wide variety of complex engineering assignments and having a much broader range of knowledge, skills and abilities.

Employees in this classification work under general supervision of the Principal Engineer. Employees in the Engineer positions are not directly responsible for the supervision and evaluation of other engineering staff; however, they may provide supervision of work product to other engineers, inspectors, technicians or intern staff.

Essential Duties

• Plans, directs, participates and effectively completes moderately complex projects. This technical work involves engineering, surveying, construction or other activities related to the civil engineering profession.
• Manages assigned projects, serving as the project lead and ensuring that all aspects of the project are addressed and completed professionally.
• Supervises the work products of project team members, including technicians or intern staff.
• Administers consultant contracts and oversees consultants for services such as design, construction management, construction inspection, soil testing, biological studies, and other related tasks.

What You’ll Do

The Public Works Maintenance Leadworker performs skilled work in the construction, maintenance, and repair of sewer infrastructure, road ways, sidewalks, and storm conveyance system. The Leadworker assigns and participates in the work of maintenance crews, operates power driven equipment, and performs related work as required.   This position is responsible for lead supervision of a sewer, street, storm or traffic safety maintenance field crew. This is a full-time position with benefits and a compensation schedule range of $6,339 - $7,529 per month. This position works a 9/80 schedule, with every other Friday off. Definition

Under general supervision, this position performs a variety of semi-skilled and skilled duties in connection with the construction, maintenance, and repair of City buildings and other facilities; and performs related duties as assigned. This position is distinguished from other maintenance classes in its specialization in building construction and maintenance, utilizing skills in one or more of the building trades.

Typical and Important Duties

• Constructs, remodels, and repairs a variety of buildings and structures, such as walls, partitions, doorways, counters, stairways, plumbing, roofs, and floor coverings.
• Builds and/or installs cabinets, shelving, bookcases, molding and other items involving finish carpentry.
• Performs other crafts-related work in connection with the construction, alteration, and repair of buildings and related facilities.
• Inspects work sites to take dimensions, prepare estimates of time and materials to lay-out work. 
• Reads and interprets blueprints, schematics, diagrams, and catalogues
• Maintains work orders, services records, time logs
• Prepares drawings and specifications for assigned projects.
• Estimates materials and supplies required to perform assigned work; may order supplies and materials as required.
• May direct the work of other workers on a project or relief basis.

Essential Job Function

Ability to drive, possess and maintain a valid California driver’s license, as well as drive a variety of vehicles safely.

Employment Standards

Any combination of training and experience equivalent to graduation from high school and completion of an accredited four-year apprenticeship program in construction field.

Licenses and Certificates

Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid California driver’s license and a satisfactory driving record. May be required to qualify for and obtain a Class “A” or “B” driver’s license, and, therefore, become subject to the Department of Transportation’s random drug and alcohol testing program.

The Combination Building Inspector I/II plays a crucial role in protecting public health, safety, and welfare by reviewing construction projects to ensure compliance with minimum standards. Their inspections cover not only the structural stability of buildings but also key safety aspects such as fire protection, life-safety features, energy efficiency, and the proper functioning of plumbing, mechanical, and electrical systems. 

The Combination Building Inspector must possess excellent customer service and communication skills, be self-motivated, exercise discretion and independent judgment, and project a very professional image through in-person, phone, and e-mail interactions at all times. Additionally, this position will plan check in specialized areas such as plumbing, mechanical and electrical.  

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES 

• Conducts inspection work to enforce building, fire and life safety, mechanical, plumbing, electrical, energy, accessibility, and other related codes and regulations that govern the construction, alteration, repair, and use of buildings and structures.  

• Reads and interprets plans and specifications for inspection on commercial, industrial and residential buildings. Performs pre-construction inspections on complex permits to get familiarized with the project milestones and establish communication channels with the contractor and the design team. 

• Participates in the development of policies and procedures; recommends programs and projects to the inspector supervisor and the inspection team.  

• Ensures a high-performance, customer service-oriented work environment that supports the department and City’s mission, objectives, and values. 

• Confers and coordinates with, and provides information and assistance to owners, architects, engineers, contractors, builders, and the general public in the field and office; explains and interprets applicable codes, ordinances, and zoning regulations.
