The City of Newark is looking for General Laborer to be an integral member of the Maintenance Division within the Public Works Department. Under supervision the incumbent will perform tasks to include general cleaning and maintenance of city parks to include planting of trees, shrubs, pruning, fertilizing and watering, mowing and edging turf areas, as well as trash removal from parks, roadways, and medians. This active laborer will remove graffiti, install signage, and assist in the cleaning of storm drains.

Experience and Training

• Possession of a high school diploma or equivalent.

THE POSITION

The City is currently seeking General Maintenance Workers. This temporary position works with the City’s maintenance staff to perform: unskilled labor in the parks and landscape medians, street and sidewalk maintenance, street sign maintenance, and fleet building maintenance. Duties include, but are not limited to: raking, emptying trash cans and litter removal, irrigation repair, weeding, edging, street sign maintenance and graffiti removal. Work is closely supervised; work methods are explained in specific terms and work is subject to frequent review.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES

• Knowledge of methods, materials, and equipment used in landscaping, street and sidewalk maintenance, and building maintenance, as well as safety practices and precautions to be used in work.
• Skill in operating hand and power tool equipment such as rakes, pick and shovel, etc.
• Ability to work outdoors in all weather and to follow oral and written instructions. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

A typical way of gaining the knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position is:
Equivalent to graduation from high school and completion of 60 college semester or 90 quarter units in business administration, public administration, criminal justice or a related field; may substitute experience on a year-for-year basis for education; and five (5) years increasingly responsible experience in a public safety communications center, one of which must have been at the supervisory level or administrative capacity and two years of experience directly related to emergency dispatching.

Other requirements include:
Must be able to pass a psychiatric evaluation and P.O.S.T Dispatcher background investigation. Must be willing to work evening, night, weekend and holiday shifts. An Emergency Medical Dispatcher, P.O.S.T. Dispatcher, Civilian Supervisor, Instructor Certificate, or completion of training required for one or more of these certificates is desirable. ICS 100, 200, 300, 400, 700 and 800 Incident Command system certification is desirable.

Must be able to travel to various locations within and outside the City of Berkeley to meet the program needs and to fulfill the job responsibilities. When driving on City business, the incumbent is required to maintain a valid California driver's license as well as a satisfactory driving record.

The Department

The Community Services Department plays a key role in enhancing the community and ensuring the citizens of Fremont receive excellent customer service through the management of recreation facilities, quality recreation and environmental programs, and park planning.

The Position

The primary focus of the Park Ranger/Naturalist is to enhance park safety and visitor experience through consistent patrol, community engagement, and responsive customer service. Additionally, the incumbent may conduct natural resource protection and environmental education programs.

The Housing Authority is seeking an exceptional, team-oriented candidate to oversee projects and initiatives in support of the Alameda Housing Authority (AHA)’s affordable housing development and neighborhood revitalization programs in the City. This may include new construction development, acquisition and rehabilitation of properties, and development for projects for AHA’s nonprofit development affiliate, Island City Development. THE POSITION

Under general direction of the Water Resources Division Manager, this position serves as the Chief Plant Operator of the City’s Water Reclamation Plant (wastewater treatment). The selected candidate will plan, organize, direct and manage the operation of the Water Reclamation Plant including wastewater treatment and recycled water production. They will coordinate activities with other sections/divisions/departments, external customers, regional wastewater agencies, and contractors. This position will ensure that all regulatory compliance targets are met and act as a liaison to regulatory agencies. This position requires a valid Grade IV Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator Certificate issued by the State Water Resources Control Board at the time of appointment.
