Part-Time Winter Basketball League Positions

Are you looking for a fun, part-time job where you can stay active, work with kids, and be part of the community? The City of Orinda Parks and Recreation Department is hiring Sports Program Assistants for the upcoming Orinda Youth Sports (OYS) Winter Basketball League!

Season Dates: Saturdays only, January 20 – March 14 (no games Feb. 14)
Shifts: 6 hours (8:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. or 8:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m.)
Pay: $16.50 – $24.50/hour (depending on experience and role)

What You’ll Do

• Help set up and take down basketball equipment

• Supervise the gym and keep things running smoothly

• Run the scoreboard/score clock

• Be a positive role model for young athletes

(And yes—there will be chances for more work in the spring leagues and summer camps!)

**No certifications or previous experience is required! Candidates must be comfortable in the water. Swim Instructor training will be provided once hired.**

• Applicants should be able to work at least 12-20 hours per week, year-round, including weekends and holidays, with mandatory trainings. 
• Summer Swim Lessons run on Monday-Thurday mornings (7:45 am – 12:00 pm), Monday-Thurday evenings (3:45 pm - 8:00 pm), and Saturday mornings (7:45 am- 12:00 pm). 
• Off-Season Swim Lessons run on Monday/Wednesday evenings (3:45 pm - 7:45 pm), Tuesday/Thursday evenings (3:45 pm - 7:45 pm), and Saturday mornings (7:45 am- 12:00 pm). 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Under the supervision of the Aquatics Coordinator, this position provides swim instruction to adults and children and conducts related work as required
• Swim Instructors teach, supervise, and assess students of all ages and abilities
• Teach group and private swim lessons to adults and children of all abilities
• Use proper teaching tools, equipment, and techniques while teaching swim lessons
• Maintain order and prevent accidents through the enforcement of policies, rules, regulations, and ordinances governing the conduct of patrons in the pool area.

The Facility Attendant provides operational supervision of community centers during the absence of full-time staff. Work hours may vary but will often be evenings, weekends and occasionally weekdays. The location of the facility will be discussed during the interview and may be for multiple locations depending on availability.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES (This is a general description of duties and is not all-inclusive)

• Supervision of user fee classes and private group uses
• Light maintenance
• Provide general assistance with office work, answer telephones and assist facility visitors
• Light lifting and moving of equipment
• Interpret Department policy
• Receive use permits and payments for community centers
• Assist in organizing and implementing special events and holiday programs

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• Must be least 18 years of AND one year or one summer work or volunteer experience

• Must possess basic clerical and computer skills
• Ability to establish and maintain productive relations and positive attitude with others

THE POSITION:

The City of Hayward is seeking a strategic and collaborative Director of Finance to oversee its centralized financial operations. Reporting directly to the City Manager, this executive role provides leadership in accounting, budgeting, treasury, revenue collection, licensing, purchasing, and data systems. The Director serves as the City's Chief Financial Officer, managing the preparation and oversight of the annual operating and capital improvement budgets, ensuring audit compliance, and maintaining strong internal controls. Additionally, the role advises the City Manager and Council on fiscal matters, promotes transparency and efficiency, and leads a dedicated team committed to service excellence and innovation. The Director also acts as Treasurer-Controller for the East Bay Dischargers Authority and supports programs such as the Rent Review Board. 

A Dispatcher II is a civilian employee of the Police Department who performs a variety of tasks in the Department’s Support Services Division. The Dispatcher II acts as the Department’s primary dispatcher, receiving and relaying incoming calls for emergency and non-emergency assistance; dispatching police units; operating a variety of telecommunications equipment including radio, telephone, and computer-aided dispatch systems; status monitoring, records and file maintenance in a computer-aided environment; and entry level dispatch training. A Dispatcher II may be assigned to work various hours, shifts, holidays, weekends and overtime.

Additional duties may include, but are not limited to, the following: prioritize requests for service based upon available resources, receive radio requests and handle accordingly, type, process and file a wide variety of reports and materials including memos, letters, complaints, declarations, warrants, citations, crime and traffic reports.  Assists Department personnel and the public in person and by phone performing record checks, collecting fees and mailing requested reports to outside agencies in accordance with established regulations. 

QUALIFICATIONS

Have a combination of education and work experience, including a minimum of one year of dispatch work; two years general office work involving typing of varied materials, public contact, general filing and basic record keeping; type at least 40 wpm (net).  Have knowledge of business English, spelling; modern office practices and procedures; record keeping. Ability to dispatch police units quickly and effectively; work under pressure; exercise independent judgment; work with minimal supervision; make sound decisions in emergency situations; learn assigned clerical tasks readily and to adhere to prescribed routine; write English legibly; establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and the general public; operate computer-aided dispatch system, 911 emergency telephone, and other multi-line telephone systems, various law enforcement telecommunications systems, radio console with headsets and handsets, computer keyboards, cameras, intercoms, security. Willingness to work varying shifts and radio dispatching skills. 

SPECIAL EMPLOYMENT INFORMATION

This is a one-year, limited-term assignment, with the possibility of extension based on budget, departmental needs and approval. The position will require a minimum of 24.5 hours and up to a maximum of 39.5 hours per week. The work schedule may include nights, weekends, and holidays. Shift schedules are reviewed every four months and are subject to change.

The City of Newark is hiring a Community Preservation Specialist. This role is essential to protecting the health, safety, and quality of life in our community. Working under general supervision, the Specialist enforces City codes related to health and safety, nuisance abatement, housing, and zoning. • Documented code enforcement related training from a recognized code enforcement association in the State of California, which includes training in the areas of property management and landlord tenant issues.
• Bilingual skills are highly desirable. 

Under general supervision of the Chief Building Official, the Building Permit Technician performs technical, paraprofessional support, customer service, and clerical work supporting the operations involved with the issuance and coordination of the building inspection and permits process.

CLASS CHARACTERISITICS:

The incumbent will usually serve the public at the front counter and provide information regarding permits and building code requirements.  The nature of the tasks requires good public relations skills and the ability to handle customers with tact and good judgment.  The position will perform routine and complex tasks associated with the receipt, review and tracking of building permit applications through the permit process to ensure the efficiency and compliance to department policies and procedures.  May receive functional or technical supervision from department staff.  May exercise functional or technical supervision over other clerical positions.
