The Department, which is divided into four divisions: Building, Code Enforcement, Housing and Planning, provides a broad range of functions relating to the development of the community.  The Planning Division provides long-range planning and review of applications for new developments.  The Code Enforcement Division provides maintenance of the city’s neighborhoods.  The Housing Division provides development and administration of affordable housing programs.  The Building Division provides construction permit review, issuance, and inspection for residential and commercial structures. The Building Division is currently seeking to fill a vacancy for the position of Building Inspector I/II.

What You’ll Do

To conduct inspections of routine and intricate structural and building systems during different phases of construction, modification, and repair projects; to collaborate with other departments and conduct investigations to ensure adherence to housing, zoning, environmental, and overall land use regulations; to assist in the examination of building plans and specifications; to maintain accurate records utilizing software and computer systems; and to perform related tasks as necessary.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES ‑ Depending upon assignment, duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

Building Inspector I/II

• Conduct combination field inspections of industrial, commercial, and residential buildings during various stages of construction and remodeling; ensure proper and safe installations of routine and complex building systems; ensure building progress conforms to all applicable California Building Standards (Title 24, California Code of Regulations), City adopted codes and ordinances, and pertinent provisions of Federal, State and County health and environmental ordinances.
• Respond to emergencies when called upon by supervisor, or emergency dispatchers, to assist as technical expert in evaluation of safety.
• Issue permits for work to be performed.
• Review plans and specifications.
• Assist in the plan checking of residential and commercial projects.
• Participate in Fire Department and County Health Department inspections as required in one or more inspection disciplines such as electrical, plumbing, or mechanical.
• Coordinate inspection activities with other City departments to ensure compliance with conditions attached to projects by the Development Review Board, the Planning Commission or the City Council.
• Conduct inspections with the Code Enforcement officers to verify complaints and/or conditions violating building and zoning codes; conduct follow up inspections to check and verify that conditions are completed.
• Conduct inspections, prepare reports and serve as needed to assist the City Attorney in legal actions initiated by the Building Division.
• Respond to and resolve citizen inquiries and complaints regarding the City's building inspection function.
• Advise property owners, contractors, and others on matters relevant to construction and repair methods and materials; interprets codes and regulations and explains inspection programs; investigates and resolves complaints and problems.
• Retrieve, investigate and analyze building, assessor's parcels, files and other computerized records from computer database as required.
• Confer with architects, contractors, builders and the general public in the field and office; explain and interpret requirements and restrictions; review reports from special inspection agencies, engineers, and architects relating to specific projects.
• Maintain accurate and detailed records and prepare reports.
• Monitor compliance, including after violations.
• Provide public assistance and information over the counter.
• Conduct review of complex technical documents for conformance with accuracy, industry standards, codes, ordinances, and regulations.
• Prepare reports, warning letters, citations, calculations, analysis, grants, diagrams, or technical materials for City, City Committees, public vendor, state and federal filings, and advisory reports.

The City of Menlo Park is seeking engineering professionals, with exceptional technical and project management skills, for Senior Civil Engineer positions in the Public Works Department (Department) Capital Improvement Program (CIP) Division. The Senior Engineer will lead capital improvement projects under the supervision of the City Engineer or Public Works Director. The CIP team delivers projects for City owned facilities including streets, buildings, storm and domestic water, and parks. The Senior Civil Engineer is responsible for executing CIP projects from planning through completion and managing assigned staff.

DEFINITION

Training:

Equivalent to a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in recreation, human services or a closely related field.

Licenses and Certifications:

Must possess and maintain a valid California Class C driver’s license and have a satisfactory driving record.

Must possess American Red Cross First Aid certificate and CPR Adult, Child, and Infant CPR within six months of appointment.

When assigned to Aquatics, must possess American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification including First Aid and CPR at time of appointment. Title 22 Certification required within one year of appointment.

The City of Foster City is looking for a Public Works Maintenance Worker I who is able to demonstrate competency and increasing independence, knowledge and ability in performing routine and special assignments in a variety of maintenance program areas in the Public Works department. This position is expected to rotate through all the maintenance divisions of streets, lagoons, water, and wastewater. This is a full-time entry-level position. 

The ideal candidate will be an active listener with the ability to understand and follow verbal or written instruction. They will be able to safely operate equipment and tools and recognize the use of safe work practices. This individual will establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others and learn and retain information concerning equipment, functions, and projects. This position requires standby and emergency response coverage before or after regular work hours, weekends, and holidays.

Education and Training Guidelines
Any combination equivalent to experience and education that could likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities. A typical way would be:

Education: Completion of a job or technical training program in maintenance, or construction, completion of high school or the equivalent.

Experience: One year of full-time experience in general maintenance or construction.

Licenses, Certificates, Registration

Selection Process
Applications will be reviewed for relevant education, experience, training and other job related qualifications. Based upon a review of employment applications received, a limited number of the qualified applicants will be invited to participate in the examination process.

The process will consist of an Oral Panel Interview (weighted 50%), Written Exercise (weighted 25%), and Practical Exercise (weighted 25%). An eligibility list will be established from those who pass the examination process with a score of 70% or higher. Current and future vacancies may be filled from this list. The City of Burlingame is accepting applications for the position of On-Call Library Aide I/II

This application is for non-benefited, part-time employment only. The candidate will fill staffing vacancies as needed and will be required to work days, evenings, weekends and/or holidays. Schedule may vary and incumbent must be available to work flexible hours.

Ideal Candidate

The City of Burlingame is accepting applications for a part-time, 18 hours per week Library Aide.  Must be available to work a schedule that includes combination of day, evening and weekend shifts.  Must be able to work one evening and one weekend day per week. 

The Library Aide performs various routine and repetitive tasks relating to the maintenance of the library collection. Duties include shelving, sorting, filing and shifting of books, periodicals and other library materials. Maintains library reading rooms, stacks and other areas in clean order. Library Aides may process materials returned from circulation, including checking in the daily delivery on the computer system and moving boxes of books and other materials. May be asked to back up Circulation staff and assist in a variety of special projects and services as needed. Library Aides work in all divisions of the Library, including Circulation, Children's, Technical Services, Reference and the Easton Branch.

ABILITY TO:

Communicate and interact effectively and cooperatively with employees and library users of all ages; work under pressure of heavy service demands; be flexible in work scheduling; work as part of a team; remain calm when dealing with difficult situations and difficult people, handling situations with tact and firmness. SALARY & BENEFITS:

The salary range for this position is $18.60-$25.14 per hour. This position is a temporary, part-time position and part of   Healthy Workplaces/Healthy Families Act: California Paid Sick Leave Benefit, as amended effective 1/1/2024. This benefit accrues at the rate of one hour for every 30 hours worked and is available after 90 days of employment. The maximum use of paid sick leave is 40 hours in a one-year period.  There is no cash value associated with benefit. There is no guarantee of hours and employment may end at any time. This position is at will and is not part of the City's Civil Service System.

The City of Half Moon Bay Community Development Department invites qualified candidates to apply for the position of Senior Planner.  The Department is seeking an attentive and well-qualified Senior Planner Supervisor to join the Planning Division. The Senior Planner reviews and manages complex development projects through the entitlement process, oversees professional planning assignments, manages long-range planning studies, and incorporates meaningful community engagement into planning initiatives. At any given time, the Senior Planner may be interpreting zoning regulations, managing consultant work, preparing detailed project analyses, or advising the public on planning matters.

The Senior Planner reports to the Community Development Director and supervises more junior planners. Senior Planners may also serve as project manager for major private development proposals and City planning projects, serve as Deputy Zoning Administrator, and act as staff liaison to the Planning Commission.

• Manage a variety of complex planning projects, including residential, commercial, and mixed-use development.
• Apply policies and procedures of the City’s Local Coastal Program (LCP), General Plan, and zoning regulations.
• Direct consultant services for CEQA and technical reviews.
• Conduct and present analyses of planning proposals; prepare staff reports and recommendations.

The Department 

The Public Works department is comprised of the Maintenance, Engineering and WQCP (Water Quality Control Plant) divisions. The Maintenance Division is responsible for all of the asphalt and concrete streets within the City as well as all of the associated signalized intersections, streetlights, road signs and traffic markings.  The division also maintains the sanitary sewer/storm system which includes all of the sanitary sewer lines, all of the storm lines and catch basins, several storm water pump stations, as well as various large storm water trash capture devices throughout the City.

THE POSITION

Under close to general supervision, this hourly position is responsible for cleaning and maintaining the downtown corridor, including the removal of litter, debris, and illegal dumping. Duties are primarily driven by SeeClickFix service requests and may include other related maintenance and cleaning tasks as assigned.
 

IDEAL CANDIDATE 

The ideal candidate will have experience with outdoor maintenance work and be familiar with basic tools, equipment, and safety practices related to cleaning and debris removal in public spaces. They will take pride in keeping high-visibility areas clean and welcoming, respond promptly to service requests (such as those submitted through SeeClickFix), and interact professionally with the public and City staff. The ideal candidate will be reliable, self-motivated, and able to work independently or as part of a team, using sound judgment while following established safety procedures.

TYPICAL DUTIES (may include but are not limited to the following):

• Conduct daily cleaning and maintenance of the City’s downtown corridor, ensuring all public areas are free of litter and debris.
• Efficiently empty, clean and service all City owned trash receptacles, adhering to waste disposal and sanitation standards.
• Respond to requests for service in real time via smart device.
• Uses a variety of hand and power tools in connection with the above duties; operates light, motorized equipment, such as pick-ups, flatbeds, and dump trucks.
• Identify and report maintenance issues, safety hazards or vandalism during routine duties to appropriate City personnel.

• Responses to the supplemental questionnaire

NOTE: Applications must be filled out in their entirety. SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS

Prior to appointment, candidates will be required to submit to any or all of the following (as applicable:

3. Pre-Employment Medical Examination and Drug Screen

A conviction history will not necessarily disqualify an applicant from appointment. Determinations are made on a case-by-case basis with consideration given to the nature and recency of the conviction and relationship to job duties. All City standards must be met before the final appointment is made.
