The City of Menlo Park is hiring Recreation Specialists to support City-operated Summer Camp programs serving children ages 4.5 through 13 years old for programs running June 15th through August 14th, 2026.

Under general supervision, Recreation Specialists provide direct supervision of participants and assist with age-appropriate recreational, enrichment, and physical activities in compliance with California Community Care Licensing (Title 22) requirements and City policies. This position requires active engagement with children, adherence to safety standards, and the ability to maintain required staff-to-child ratios.

This is an hourly, at-will, part-time (non-benefited) position offering paid training and valuable experience in youth development and public service.
 
Schedule

• Part to Full-day summer camp shifts
• Up to 8.5 hours per day, including a 30-minute unpaid meal period
• Potential opportunity for continued part-time employment during the school year in our after school programs or other recreation programs.

Essential Duties

• Supervise and engage children in a safe, inclusive environment
• Lead and assist with games, sports, arts and crafts, and group activities
• Support daily routines, transitions, and clean-up
• Use positive behavior guidance strategies
• Follow Title 22, City policies, and safety procedures

The Midpeninsula Regional Open Space District (Midpen) is seeking a self-motivated and highly experienced fleet professional to join our team as our next Fleet Services Program Manager! About the Position: The Fleet Services Program Manager will oversee the full cycle of our vehicle and equipment fleet, from budgeting and acquisition to maintenance, compliance, and replacement.  This position plays a critical role in ensuring safe, reliable, and sustainable fleet operations by managing contracts, developing specifications, coordinating repairs, and leading asset management strategies.  The ideal candidate will bring strong technical expertise in fleet and equipment maintenance, proven experience with budgeting and program administration, skilled at ensuring regulatory compliance, and the ability to evaluate fleet needs and recommend cost effective solutions.

Strong communication, collaboration, interpersonal and problem-solving skills are essential for the position.

Education & Experience:

Any combination of training and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be:

• Equivalent to an associate degree in fleet management, business administration, public administration, or a closely related field and
• Four (4) years of full-time experience in administration of a fleet or equipment maintenance program or facility, including at least one year at a lead or supervisory level.

Licenses and Certifications:  Possession of a valid California Driver’s License.            

Work Environment: This full-time position reports to the Facilities & Fleet Manager and is part of the Facilities & Fleet Department at Midpen’s Administrative Office in Los Altos, California. Midpen offers a hybrid office/telecommute work schedule for this position following successful onboarding and may be eligible for a 9/80 schedule.  To meet service needs, three days of working on-site is required per week – set days are Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays in the office. The Fleet Services Program Manager will often meet with Midpen staff in the district field offices.  Employees may work in the field and occasionally be exposed to loud noise levels, cold and hot temperatures, inclement weather conditions, or road hazards. Must possess the ability to lift, carry, push, and pull materials and objects weighing up to 25 pounds.

PROGRAM LEADER (Youth Services/Kids’ Night Out/Kids Day Out Programs)

Salary Range: $17.37 to $23.15/hour (DOE)

Part-time temporary, non-benefitted position; 10 hours per month in Kids’ Night Out Program and Bi-monthly Friday night availability (6-11 pm) required. Additional shifts are available on San Ramon Unified School District days off school, during recreation pop ups, and special events. (not-to-exceed 950 hours per fiscal year)

GENERAL DUTIES

Under the general supervision of the Youth Program Coordinator, Youth Services staff is responsible for supervision and safety within the bi-monthly Kids’ Night Out and Kids Day Out Program, including implementing a variety of crafts, games and activities for youth ages 5 to 11.  As a Youth Services staff member, you will:

• Gain experience leading arts, crafts, games, and activities;
• Serve as a mentor and role model to youth;
• Learn to work as part of a team and lead activities;
• Acquire skills to safely and appropriately supervise youth in a staff-to-youth ratio environment.
• Assist with recreation pop ups and special events
• Other duties as assigned

Specific to Youth Services:

• Plan and execute duties related to special interest classes, school-year and seasonal programs, and special events.
• Serve as a role model and advocate for youth.
• Effectively facilitate and/or lead small and large groups of youth.
• Communicate effectively with youth and their parents.
• Willing and available to work flexible hours as needed.

The City of San Mateo Parks & Recreation Department is looking for enthusiastic, team-oriented, creative, and energetic individuals to join our Summer Camp Program!

The Position:

Are you seeking a meaningful opportunity to serve youth in a diverse, multicultural community? Join our team and make a positive difference every day. This entry-level position supports daily program operations by assisting with activities and creating a safe and welcoming environment for participants. This role works under the direction of higher-level Recreation staff while developing foundational skills in teamwork, customer service, and developmentally appropriate activities.

Qualifications:

Applicants must be at least 16 years of age and eligible for a valid work permit. Candidates should have an interest in working with youth in recreation or camp settings and demonstrate reliability, along with a positive attitude. The ideal candidate has completed the City of San Mateo’s Leaders in Training Program or equivalent series, communicates effectively with staff and participants, works cooperatively as part of a team, and follows directions from supervisory staff. Successful candidates must pass all required background checks upon hire. A bilingual pay differential is available for candidates fluent in identified languages. Availability is required Monday through Friday from June 8th through August 7th between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m.

Recreation Specialist I Example Duties:

• Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
• Work collaboratively with Recreation Specialists II and III with daily camp activities and routines
• Support implementation of developmentally appropriate activities for children ages 5–12
• Help maintain a safe and organized program environment
• Assist with activity setup, cleanup, and supply organization
• Support staff with group supervision and transitions throughout the day
• Participate in staff training and meetings as assigned
• Provide positive interaction and encouragement to youth participants
• Follow established safety procedures and program guidelines
